Another way to read more than the PC cursor allows is to turn on the JAWs cursor, then press insert-r. Repeated pressing of this insert-r combination gives different views of the screen.

Often during installation programs, all you will see with Jaws is the OK button. In those cases, try using the Jaws OCR function layered keystroke of JawsKey with Spacebar, followed by O and then W for window.

Where I have the problem reading the entire screen is during installs
or uninstalls where all you get is an "OK" with no explanation. You
can't move the cursor to the top of the screen to read all of it in a
situation like this. Very frustrating, because what am I saying "OK"
to before I hit the spacebar? Just my thoughts.--Matthew Chao.

Hi, Matthew. When you press insert-down arrow, you're invoking the
JAWS "say all" function. This will read the entire screen if you
start from the

very top. Otherwise, it picks up from where you have focus. Then
again, "say" all" will read more than the screen. It will go all the
way to the end of a document, the bottom of a webpage, etc.

I was going to suggest another command, but I see it no longer works
in JAWS 2019. For anyone who knows where it went, this is the command
with the JAWS cursor where you press r repeatedly through a cycle of
different

reading areas.

Hi, All. I want to be able to see what's on the entire screen/window.
When I pres Insert-Down Arrow, isn't that supposed to read everything?
I don't always hear information spoken, yet when I switch to ol'
Window-Eyes, I find there's lots of info there. What's going on there?
Thanks.--Matthew Chao

Re: how do you enable the equalizer in Win Amps?

Victor Gouveia

Make sure the equalizer is actually open by control+tabbing through the various parts of Winamp.

If you find it’s not one of the parts you land on, you can turn it on with control+G, as Maria has pointed out.

In order to enable it, tab to the equalizer and press the letter N to enable it.  You should notice a marked difference in the sound.  Since N is a toggle, if you press it and the sound goes down, then it may be that it’s already enabled.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Try alt plus G from within the main window.

When you’re in the equalizer window, just hit the letter n. It’s a toggle. If you change the preamp or one of the bands to be way off the middle, you’ll be able to tell when it’s on or off.

Hey.

Just a small correction; the toggle to turn on and off the equaliser is alt-g.

I suppose too that when pressing n, unless you have made previous equalizer adjustments, you might not notice a difference in the sound right away. As the pre-amp is a part of the equalizer, an easy way to determine quickly if it’s working would be to press either the tab key or ` (grave accent) key while focused on the equalizer and with it enabled. The gain should go up or down accordingly. Make sure the pre-amp isn’t set too high though as it can cause a lot of distortion – use your regular volume control for standard adjustments, use the pre-amp to boost the sound of quiet audio.

Which office program are you working with? I just purchased 365 also, and at first could not do anything in Outlook- but after fiddleing with it for a few days, I’m getting along fine with it. Will look at Word next.

Hi,

A friend has Jaws 18, Windows 7, and WinMail.

He recently reinstalled Windows and he can no longer read the status of his WinMail with insert + numpad 3.

Status bar is checked in layout.

His display is 1270 by 1024.

When he presses insert 3, it reads the line of the bottom message, like there is no status bar.

The window is maximized.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi,
I like Chrome, but I uninstalled it because I kept getting these spam-like popup, and no matter what settings I changed, they kept coming.
I would have to go into task manager to close all instances of it to get the popup to stop.
Anyway, I downloaded the installer again and it won't install.
I go into task manager and it says google chrome updater
I then close it and try again.
I downloaded the stand alone copy, and the same story.
Any ideas why it freezes and will not install?

Hi Glenn,

After you click on the install button there's another button or checkbox you have to respond to.  It's a license agreement or something of that nature.  If you can't get it installed go to,

and get / install it from there.

Hi okay if you run this?

Now if you have purchased and and run it how do you know what you need to keep and don't need to keep?

I mean what can you safely delete and keep like if you know longer need windows live mail for example.

How then to you using this program make sure that you got rid of all of what goes along with that program?

And not other stuff that you need for your machine to run?

I use:

Registry First Aid 11

It was a purchased program, but not very expensive, seems like 10 or 15 dollars.

I've had it for a year or so.

Hi Glenn,

After you click on the install button there's another button or checkbox you have to respond to.  It's a license agreement or something of that nature.  If you can't get it installed go to,

and get / install it from there.

Take care.  Go Rams!

Windows 7 64 and Jaws 2018

Thanks

selecting lines and columns in Open Office

Glenn / Lenny

Hi,
I usually use Excel because there a lot of keyboard commands built-in with it.
I am unable to use Excel for my CSV file, because Excel shifts all the commas over, and apparently Open Office does not do this.
So I opened my file in Open Office, and Jaws is reading the cells and menus, and I went through all the menus and tried the application key to no avail.
I need to be able to select entire rows.
In Excel, that is shift + space bar.
That does not seem to work in Open Office.
Windows 7 and Jaws 18.
Thanks for any assistance.
Glenn

Where does it save that back up file and what is it called and then how to you restore from that back up?

So that everything works well again?

There are settings so you can tell it where to place it.
I've never had to do this, but if it would not boot, I'd boot to a talking WinPE and restore it.
Windows typically will use the last good registry if it has trouble booting.

I am reading that the new 11 version is graphical user interface (GUI). Are you on that version and is it compatible with latest version of JAWS?

Wondering if others on this list have had good success with this cleaner as well?

It offers a backup of the registry, so if something causes problems, you can restore it.

But I have never had any problems with letting it make the right choices.
