I am not even sure if this is the list for this specific problem but here goes.  I am having an issue with jaws reading email?  It's giving me two different people on the same address.  Just with this particular email and have been assured that This email is private.   I am running Jaws 19 and have windows t0.  I have Gmail but run Thunderbird as my primary for all private email.  Is this a jaws issue or technical?  thank You Georgi

WinMail, missing status bar

Glenn / Lenny

Hi,
A friend has Jaws 18, Windows 7, and WinMail.
He recently reinstalled Windows and he can no longer read the status of his WinMail with insert + numpad 3.
Status bar is checked in layout.
His display is 1270 by 1024.
When he presses insert 3, it reads the line of the bottom message, like there is no status bar.
The window is maximized.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hi Glenn,

Try lowering the screen resolution.  I'm running my screen resolution on this Windows 7 desktop at, 1280 × 768, in Landscape mode, and I'm using a 21 inch wide screen monitor.  I'm also going to tell you that there are some that will say since I don't turn my monitor on, it shouldn't make a difference but, it most surely does!  I've been playing around with the way screen resolution can effect the way Jaws reads the screen for the last few years, using different size monitors with different operating systems, and I know I'm not the brightest bulb on the string but, a little common sense can go a long ways.  I play around with screen resolution with every computer we have between our 2 homes and I can tell you with absolute surety that the screen resolution settings for best overall Jaws reading ability needs to be adjusted depending on your monitor screen size.  Just because a setting says it's recommended doesn't mean it the best for screen reading programs.  That's something, in my opinion, for the sighted community.
Take care.  Go Rams!

Making accessibility changes on a PDF

Michael Mote

Hi all.  I need to be able to add ALT text to some edit fields in a PDF.  I’m using Adobe Acrobat.  Can I do this with JAWS?  If so, how?  Many thanks!

Even easier for doing it by pasting it to your desktop is to hit the
applications key, then arrow up to "Create shortcut" and press Enter.

I'd also find the item on your desktop and rename the url to something
friendlier like the title of the webpage or something.
Do that by focusing on it and using f2 as the rename file or folder command.

Hi there.  I have Adobe professional installed, and do have the ability to make adjustments.  I’m just not sure where to find the options that I need using JAWS.

I believe you can look under tools and go right on either the first or second item, not sure of the names anymore, and find accessibility. You might also be able to get where you need to go by pressing f6. I do not have Adobe professional on hand in order to test my recollection. Thanks!

Re: Reading the Whole Screen

Often during installation programs, all you will see with Jaws is the
OK button. In those cases, try using the Jaws OCR function layered
keystroke of JawsKey with Spacebar, followed by O and then W for
window.

Where I have the problem reading the entire screen is during installs or
uninstalls where all you get is an "OK" with no explanation. You can't
move the cursor to the top of the screen to read all of it in a
situation like this. Very frustrating, because what am I saying "OK" to
before I hit the spacebar? Just my thoughts.--Matthew Chao.

Hi, Matthew. When you press insert-down arrow, you're invoking the JAWS
"say all" function. This will read the entire screen if you start from the

very top. Otherwise, it picks up from where you have focus. Then again,
"say" all" will read more than the screen. It will go all the way to the
end of a document, the bottom of a webpage, etc.

I was going to suggest another command, but I see it no longer works in
JAWS 2019. For anyone who knows where it went, this is the command with
the JAWS cursor where you press r repeatedly through a cycle of different

reading areas.

Hi, All. I want to be able to see what's on the entire screen/window.
When I pres Insert-Down Arrow, isn't that supposed to read everything?
I don't always hear information spoken, yet when I switch to ol'
Window-Eyes, I find there's lots of info there. What's going on there?
Thanks.--Matthew Chao
