You will need to upgrade sooner or later, previous versions of windows are being retired by Microsoft and you won’t beable to get any support!

Still, it makes no sense to upgrade from windows 7 to 8, or 8.1.

Windows 8 was a flop, like Vista was, but they came out with 8.1 and shortly after windows 10, and that is why there was a small market penetration.

Vista became pretty good after Microsoft's fixes, but most people went into 7 by then.

Not many, that's why it didn't last in the market; never had the penetration of Windows 7 or 10; and since mainstream support already ended over a year ago, and extended supports ends in 2023, you're better off just biting the bullet and going with Windows 10.

I know of no good reason why anybody would opt to upgrade to Windows 8 instead of going straight to 10.

If you are still using accessibility like Jaws or another screen-reader, you can still do it for free.

Hello all,

As subject say does ofice 20019 home business work in windows 8.1? I am a bit confused, because I read in the requirements that it worked on windows 10, but still I might have misunderstood; so I thought I might ask to see if any of you has it on windows 8.

Thank you in advance.

In Outlook Jaws does not start at the top of the body of the email.

Hi Everyone,

I am not sure when this started happening. I don’t know if it started after the last windows update or the latest update of Jaws and Zoomtext. I have notice when I open an email in 2010 Outlook I was able to just hit the arrow up key and Jaws would be at the top of the email body. Now I have to press the ctrl + home key to go to the top of the email then press the down arrow to start reading. Anyone else experience this issue. Any suggestions on what I could change or do to make Jaws be at the top of the email body?

Mr. Ed

Yep.

Have the same problem even with the June update of JAWS update and office 365.  Thanks for reminding me of this.  I am unable to reproduce it reliably;e.  It is really strange.

I haven’t experienced this specific problem but since the April update of JAWS2019 I have been experiencing several problems with JAWS and outlook2010. JAWS reads the e-mail type and name even though  I have the filter set to off. JAWS also reads a line at the beginning of every e-mail yet that line doesn’t exist anywhere in Outlook and jaws likes to read the e-mail twice.

Now with the new update of JAWS JAWS always announces ‘spelling error’, in Word and outlook, even though I have that setting to off.

Anybody else experiencing these problems or have an idea about how I can correct them?

Larry

Spell check in Outlook2010

Larry Volk

I’m not sure when this started but I just noticed it since the June update of JAWS2019. When the spell check finds an error and the list of choices come up, JAWS reads the first option—(word then spells it). When I downarrow to the next choice JAWS only spells the word. I have to actually use the read word key sequence. Anybody know of a way to set this back to the way it used to be?

Hi Alison,
It really comes down to personal preference.
I use Chrome 99% of the time followed occasionally by firefox and then Edge. I'll probably start using the combination of chrome and edge once it gets further along to release.

hi:

I use Firefox as my default browser and it works great. As was stated earlier, it is your personal preference but if in doubt, try which ever browsers you are interested in and pick the one that works best for you.?? nobody likes the same browser and each of them do and act differently. each one does certain things better than others and it is up to your own personal preferences and what you want to do with them.

A good example of an inaccessible site with some inaccessible control elments.

Joe DiNero

Good morning,

I am going to be doing a webinar about accessible websites and looking for a good website to demonstrate a site that is not super accessible. I have one in place, however, would love to find one perhaps an ecommerce site or a site with a form where some of the controls like combo boxes or buttons are not accessible. If anyone has a suggestion please let me know.

Thanks
Joe

I wonder if it is all highlighted.
You probably realize this, but for others, it is echoing the number of characters left that can be typed.
Try using insert S until it says none, maybe that will work.

Re: Spell check in Outlook2010

LeDon

When I use spell check with outlook 2010 I go to the top of the page and press F7. That will take me to the first misspelled word in the document. Spell check spells the word that is misspelled the way I spelled it. I press the tab key and that brings me to the suggested replacement list. Usually the one on top of the list is the one I want. But, if it isn’t I use the arrow keys to choose the one I want from the list.

When I find the spelling I want I press the tab key repeatedly  until I find the action I want, usually that is to replace. Then I press the return key and spell check continues to the next misspelled word. I will say that I don’t look for misspelled words while I type, because that interrupts my thought process and I have trouble creating sentences. So I go to the top of the document to check for misspelled words after I have finished my thoughts. That is the way I have spell checked this email.

Happy with June update of JAWS2019

Hello all:

Just a note to say that I am very happy with two things I note in the latest update of JAWS2019:

First and uppermost, the fact that when composing a new email with Outlook 2016 and landing on the TO: field, when you begin typing a name or email address, it now behaves like it used to, with JAWS reading choices as you type.

Secondly, I am very happy they are finally paying attention to PuTTY, the free SFTP client that many of us use to access a remote command line, in my case for Unix servers.  It has a ways to go, as it still does not read the actual line the cursor is on, nor when you backup to correct something you typed, but at least it echoes the screen as results appear.  I hope they keep working on this tool, so important to some of us.

Regards,

Humberto

I don't experience this issue and just got a monthly update.  I'm running Win10 version 1809 pro.  Do you have JAWS set via quick settings to read automatically?  With autoread, I need to do nothing, but I can speed up the reading process by using the down arrow to skip initial text I don't want.  Default is set not to read automatically.
