How do you turn off the words echoing feature? I never had it before and I'm
not sure I like it.

Re: Issue with Zoom meetings and JAWS 2019 latest build

Hello Chris:

It sounds to me that the culprit may be the upload speed of your internet connection, most DSL connections are asymmetric, meaning that they have more bandwidth for download than for upload and video uses a lot of bandwidth.

I am totally blind, old and ugly to boot, so do not use video, but Zoom with audio works fine for me as does Skype, my DSL here in the boondocks is 50 MB download and 6 MB upload.

Regards,

Humberto

Subject: [jaws-users] Issue with Zoom meetings and JAWS 2019 latest build

Hello all. Has anyone joined a video meeting with the Zoom platform while using JAWS? I tried to join a meeting this morning using Zoom on a Windows 10 PC running the latest build of JAWS 2019. The other person activated their video, when I activated the button to turn on my video in the app, however, the app stopped responding. I was able to maintain audio for a while after, and the other person told me he received an error message on his end about a poor Internet connection on my end. I wasn’t able to close the app without restarting my PC or using Windows Task Manager. The problem does not occur with audio only meetings. This happened two separate times this morning while I was trying to access this meeting. I was also running Google Chrome which is my default browser and Outlook 2016, but I’m posting to the list as I suspect this might be related to JAWS. Anyone run into this issue and know of a workaround?

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Humberto. I use a high speed Internet connection and not DSL. Do you know of a good speed test site that is accessible with JAWS?

Thanks,

Thanks Humberto. I ran a speed test just now with speedtest.net, and my upload speed was 11.56 mbps, so I don’t think that’s the culprit.

thunderbird is ok. but if you have logged into your google account and changed
the security settings to block unsecured apps you still won't be able to send

they do not want you to use wlm or thunderbird as your email client and will
block you with this setting.
Consider using Thunderbird as your email client in Windows 10.?? It is easy to
use and install, and has a classic menu structure.?? I gave up on WLM because
messages would constantly become corrupted and impossible to open, and on my
previous Windows 7 computer, WLM itself became corrupted and had to be
repaired.?? This won't happen with Thunderbird, which is very stable.

the quickest way seems to be to press insert-6 (that is the 6 on the number row)
That brings up the settings center. If you want this to apply for everything, press control-shift-d for the default settings.
In the edit box, write, typing and hit enter.
You should be on Typing echo words. tap your space bar until you get to off, if you want Jaws to remain silent, shift tab to OK and hit enter, you may need to do that a second time and then confirm you want to save the default settings.

the quickest way seems to be to press insert-6 (that is the 6 on the number row)

It says none, word, character. So when it says, “word”, what am I  supposed to do?

You may have accidentaly toggle to word with insert 2. Just press insert 2 until none or other options.

The default is characters only, I'm sure that is what you want.

If you want it to echo just characters, when it says character, shift-tab to OK and hit enter, and like I said you may have to do that again, then when you exit, Jaws will ask if you want to save the settings, of course select yes.
Hitting the spacebar toggles through those choices.
I hope that helps.
Richard
