OK I’m not a techy person and I really don’t know much about jobs so if I explain this horrible please be patient. I’m trying to find out how to do things like look in my send or sent box with jars. How do I jump from the list of emails somewhere else? I know the tab and shift tab go through things so you can fill-in your message, your two and subject along with sending something to othera by CCing.

Thanks and if there is a website where all this is stored like an easy to read manual for jars commands I’ll take that link as well. I’m not sure I really want to go to the freedom scientific page. I’m using my phone at work because I can’t do anything here.

Re: WLM Filters

Glenn / Lenny

Hi Ron,
Actually, there is only a problem with using
where the message body contains
I used the from field as well, as I'm filtering messages from a specific sender and having it moved to a specific folder.
The sender also sends messages that I don't want in that folder, so the part of the filter that should allow me to put in something specific gives me no edit field to do so.
I've made many filters in the past, and this one is an odd issue.
Hope I was able to explain it better.

Glen, are you talking about the third roll over in the four rolls?
What I normally do is this.
after doing a alt n for new rule, the first roll I go down to to and cc, but you could get away with just to.
That’s a personal preference.
Tab once to the second roll and you should see move to the specified folder and it should be checked.
The third is probably where you’re having problems.
I usually skip this one and fill in the name I want the rule to be named first which is the four roll then back tab to the third.
Smack enter on it and you should see a field to inter in the address.
Then if you smack enter twice, you then should see move it to the folder you want to move it to.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I'm having difficulty creating a filter in Windows Live Mail.
I have several that I have made, so I normally have no problem creating filters.
The criteria that does not seem to be working is
"where the message body contains"
The only two things that are available when I go into it to type in the filter is exact match or any of the criteria.
But there should be an edit field to type in something for it to filter.
There is only those two options, and neither givbes me an edit field.
I've used my Jaws cursor, to look for something to click on, and there is nothing that I can find to click on.  latest Jaws, and this is Windows 7-64.
I have done this before in OE and it allows me to put in some criteria.
Something else strange I noticed, it reads "checked" when it shows other filters and also in some of the options.
If anyone here is using WLM and has figured this one out, I'll write a Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Getting a message that says "Could Not Load braille driver"

Michael Mote

Good morning all.  I have a JAWS user that is getting a message saying "Could Not Load Braille Driver."  That sounds simple enough to fix, right?  I'm not at all sure exactly what JAWS is looking for.  Is it looking for the braille display drivers.  She is using a Braille Edge 40 from HIMS.  I have installed the USB drivers for her.  Could this be something else that is not working correctly?  I'm trying to fix this issue from a remote location which is complicating things even more for me.  Does anybody out there have suggestions?  Thanks. In advance!

Re: Jaws and PDFs

Okay. Thanks for the explanation, victor. I was never really clear which PDF file was the problem since the link she provided was to a website. I noted that the website has a link labeled Curriculum Details with a plus next to it that when opened provides a host of other line items many of which are also links. The linked website reads just fine for me with Fusion 2019 and Firefox 60.7.0esr (32-bit) extended support release.

It sounds as if the online dog grooming course is using image PDF files. I suspect they contain many photos and those creating the PDF files used didn't bother to see that they contained editable text that could be searched and read by screen readers. Glenn has already discussed some of the options for running the pdf files through OCR but if you need someone to confirm that they are image PDFs, send us a link to the site where they are so we can do so.

Hi Madison,

If it is based on just your Blindness, then whoever told you that you can't be a dog groomer is totally wrong.

The NFB has a department that connects people in a field that they are working in so that person can help you.

But on your question, there are a lot of ways to read a PDF.

I'd say reading it is the easiest part, but sometimes interacting with a PDF can be tricky with Jaws.

You can use Adobe DC or you can use Open Book on a PDF, or you can use Jaws convenient OCR.  A lot of PDF files can be saved to txt in Adobe's file menu.

HTH.

Hi all,
I'm really hoping that someone on this list can please help me. This is
something that's been bugging me for a while, but now I'm really hoping that
I can get this fixed. Is there some way to get Jaws to read all PDFs? The
reason that I ask is because my career goal is to become a professional dog
groomer (even though most people don't think that I can), but anyway there's
an online dog grooming course that I really want to take. I was looking at
it again today and there was a link to a sample lesion which once I opened
it Jaws wouldn't read it. I know that this isn't a good sign, if I can't
read the sample lesion then I won't be able to do the course (it's all
online). Part of the problem is that I don't know whether or not Jaws will
read a PDF until I open it. I really hope that someone can help me, I'm
using Jaws 15, Windows 7, and I don't know what version of Adobe I have.
Look forward to hearing back from anyone who can help! Thanks

Subject: [jaws-users] Jaws and PDFs

Hi all,
I'm really hoping that someone on this list can please help me. This is
something that's been bugging me for a while, but now I'm really hoping that
I can get this fixed.
Thanks
Madison

Hi all,

I didn’t get an error message, Jaws just wouldn’t read it. Do you think that this means that I need to download FireFox? I’ve never used it, and I really don’t want to have to learn another browser. Thank you all for checking out the PDF.

I downloaded a PDF:

468-Pet-Grooming-Certificate.PDF

and I read that file with FF.

Madison,

I'm a bit confused. When I clicked on the link in your below message, it opened in Firefox and read just fine with Fusion 2019. And I didn't see or hear any references to PDF files. It looked like a regular website page to me.

Hi all,

I’ll send you the link to the PDF:

https://www.icslearn.ca/programs/animal-care/pet-grooming-certificate

I was able to read it before, but as of yesterday now I can’t read it. I don’t know why, I haven’t made any changes to my computer. Look forward to hearing back from you guys! Thanks

Madison,

It sounds as if the online dog grooming course is using image PDF files. I suspect they contain many photos and those creating the PDF files used didn't bother to see that they contained editable text that could be searched and read by screen readers. Glenn has already discussed some of the options for running the pdf files through OCR but if you need someone to confirm that they are image PDFs, send us a link to the site where they are so we can do so.

Hi Glenn and all,

Reading the PDF is the problem though. If it’s one that Jaws will read then interacting with the PDF isn’t a problem. The only thing that I ever do with a PDF is read them anyway, most of the PDFs that I look at I only read once, so I never save them anyway. I think that I already have Adobe DC, is there some way that I can check? Also, Glenn can you email me privately please (about the dog groomer and NFB thing)? My email is:

Look forward to hearing back from you! Thanks
