Control-F Inconsistent for Searching in Word 2010
Rebecca Lineberger
Brian, I just have to add my thanks for this too.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
I'd been using the JAWS-Find command, or the f6 and the space bar to move through the document. Now the Word control-f and shift f4, (find next), work as they should. Your directions were perfect for my 2010. Smile. Rebecca

Re: Windows 10 & JAWS
JM Casey <crystallogic@...>
Settings – well it’s completely up to you. Mostly what I did is get rid of a lot of stuff. Most of the modern Universal-style apps are useless to me, so I just cleared them out. Set folder views to details. Tightened up the privacy settings a bit. Nothing at all to do with JAWS or being a blind user though. It’s a matter of personal preference, and all I can suggest is that you play around with Windows 10 for a while, and see what you like, and what you don’t like. It’s quite customisable really if you know what you want to achieve, do some google searching if a method isn’t immediately obvious and you will probably find a way.
As for tutorials, there are the guides from VIP software dealing with the taskbar and File Explorer. Those I found quite useful. http://vip.chowo.co.uk/
Another useful thing is the list of run commands. This isn’t exclusive to Windows 10, but I think it’s particularly useful for blind users because, if you become accustomed to it, along with the Windows search box, virtually eliminates the need for most of the windows menus. You can use your computer like a boss (or at least, as quickly as a lot of sighted people can) once you learn to just type a few keystrokes to get where you want. https://www.pcsteps.com/1675-run-command-complete-list-windows/

control G command for "go to" and the control H replace command also work. Like others, who have been shut out from use of these keys as we learned in using Word, we can get back some valuable functionality. John in sunny southwest Florida

Thanks, glad they are aware and working on it. For me, it happens with all different type cells with no common issue, i.e. cell reference, apparent One thing I don’t understand is how something that used to work ok gets broken in future updates.

Al, I have experienced this problem and have worked with FS to send them a great deal of documentation. They are well aware of this issue & are supposed to be working on it. In my case, the problem only occurs if there is a cell reference in the formula. I have found no suitable workaround. You can still move around and make the corrections to the formula if you can remember exactly where the cursor is. This is really a pain. I had hoped this would be fixed in the last update. No such luck. Called FS and they indicated still working on the problem. ---hth--- Doug

Hello,
Using Win 1803 and latest Jaws 2018 I run into a strange situation when trying to edit cell contents in excel within MS Office 2016 Whether the cell contains text or a formula, some cells can be edited by dressing F2 and then arrowing back and forth making necessary corrections. However, other cells doing the same only reads the entire cell contents when arrowing either way. No pattern or consistency to this behavior. Have others experienced this too? Any work arounds?
