I still use it, but it's increasingly having issues with some websites. I am working to transition to Chrome. Our default browser at work on Windows 10 is MS Edge, but I do not care for it and it's not fully functional with JAWS quick keys.

Depending on your email account, you’ll want at least Outlook 2013.   I am running Outlook 2010 at home just fine, but getting some email accounts, such as Hotmail, set up requires an extra plug in.  I  have not seen anything regarding Comcast accounts, so it might be really easy to set those up in older Outlook.

list of what the office sounds mean?

Van Lant, Robin

Hi,

I turned on the Office sounds when I moved to Office 2016, but I’m not really clear on what some mean.  For example, I will type something and there will be this little click sound  when I navigate past a word, but I cannot figure out why.  There is no extra spacing and no misspelling, so I don’t know what Office is trying to tell me.  I’ve tried a web search, but only coming up with instructions for turning the sounds on an off.  Anyone found some info on this?

Re: Space marker announcement

Adrian Spratt

Al, I’ll copy an earlier answer I posted to this question.

The old shift-control-8 doesn't work in recent versions of Word. It's been replaced by alt-h, then 8.

What if you only want to suppress the space marker and not the paragraph marker? You can select only one of these items, along with several other markers (tabs, etc.) by doing the following in Word 2016, and probably also in previous versions:

Alt-f, then t for "options."

Arrow down to "display."

Tab through the various checkboxes.

Hi Brian,
The first times I ran it I did not check the wildcard option, and I got the message that it found nothing to change.
Then after your message this morning, I checked the wildcard and got this message:
Microsoft Word
^P is not a valid special character for the Replace With box.

Here is something you can try, but please make a copy of the file first in case some dates in other formats are changed.  First, in the replace box you can use ^P^& and the date will go to a new line but text might follow it on the line.  If you use ^p^&^p in the replace box (no spacing) then the dates will be by themselves on a line.

In the Find edit box paste the following:

<([0-9]@[/.-])([0-9]@[/.-])([0-9]@>)

I have noticed that dates with dashes instead of slashes are also affected.  It might be that the only date format not affected is if the dates are written in words and not numbers.

Take care.

Hi,

Part of my challenge here is that Jaws 2018 in Windows 7 and Word 2000 keeps crashing when I move through the more options in the search and replace.

I am trying to figure out how to find and replace dates in a word document with hundreds of dates like:

10/09/2018

I need to put a return in front of each date so each date is on a new line before I import it into Excel.

I know that I can use \r\n in front of whatever wildcard I use for the date, but nothing I use works as a wildcard in the find field.

I have been trying this in Notepad++ as well, the wildcards are somewhat different, but similar.

Could anyone here send me a string that will find all dates in the given format?

I have been trying to figure out the brackets and parenthesis and the back slashes in the proper string.

Thanks.

Glenn

Two different things. F5 is a Microsoft command that brings up the page anew. The JAWS refresh command, JAWS key+escape, refreshes JAWS’ presentation of that page. Any number of Web problems are solved with the JAWS refresh command. Sometimes I need to use both, but by pressing F5 first. Most of the time, F5 alone isn’t the answer. Usually, pressing the JAWS refresh command is enough on its own.

It is extremely annoying when I have a broadcast on mute in the background to have it continually disrupt my work by suddenly coming to life as I refresh a page.

I’d understood that VFO was going to fix it, but so far nothing. Does anyone else find this behavior annoying, and have you found a workaround that doesn’t involve reassigning keys?

Re: JAWS is not reading the subject line when I down arrow through my list of e-mails

Al,

I'm also using Outlook 2010 on a Windows 7 computer but with Fusion/JAWS 2018. From time to time I'll get similar behavior from Outlook where it says the sender's name and some number without speaking the subject as I'm arrowing through my messages in my inbox. When this happens, I shut Outlook down, restart it, and the problem usually goes away. But it does recur from time to time and I've decided it has nothing to do with any setting and is just a program burp that normally corrects when I restart Outlook.

I know this is not a definitive answer but hopefully the fact that I'm experiencing a similar issue that corrects itself with a restart will be of some help.

John,

Thank you so much for this post. Audible has been a source of frustration since I switched to Windows 10 in July. I’ve spoken several times to Audible tech support and once spent more than an hour on a call getting nowhere. I just now went in search of this checkbox, and it was unchecked. Now that I’ve checked it, I hope my downloading problem is solved.

My steps ended up being a little different:

Open audible and click on the “Account details“ link.

Log in. so far, just as you wrote.

On the next page, search for “Update settings” and click on that link.

On the next page, search for “  Check for Audible Download Manager.”

If the box is unchecked, check it.

There’s no “Okay” button, so it seems the change takes immediate effect.

HI.

Audible customer support helped me fix the problem with not having the download link activate when I’m trying to download a book from my library. This is tangentially related to Jaws because I’m using JAWS to access Audible.com

If you want to download a book, before going into your library, go to

Account details. You’ll have to sign in.

Once you’re in account details, go down to audio preferences. Check the checkbox that says check for audible manager on your desktop before downloading . Then go into  your library. The download links should work now.

apparently  the developers messed something up; they know  this is a problem and found this work-around.

Active Disk Image or Image for Windows. You won’t go wrong with either one.

Hello All,

Since the Feature 1809 update, The Windows 7 Backup in the Control Panel stopped working.

Can someone recommend a JAWS friendly Backup program.

I hope this not Off Topic.

Thanks

John

Thanks, guess I’ll be doing it that way as well. Audible tech support is never a fun time.

The way I transfer from Audible Manager to my Stream is with good old-fashioned copy and paste, with my Stream’s SD card and reader in a USB port.

Yes, thanks a bunch. I’ve also been frustrated with audible for a while now. Thanks to Johns post I can now download, but when I attempt to transfer to my stream using audible manager I’m getting an error, incorrect parameter. Have you guys gotten this?

Thanks.
