I fixed it by installing JAWS 16 and then the beta. I was always up to date with my SMA's, but I was mostly using JAWS 14. Once I did the JAWS 16 install, the beta installed just fine.

Al, this is not a solution, but maybe a way for you to hear the subject line quickly when a message is open. Press together alt and the 5 key above the letters.

Hi Everyone,

I would like to thank all of you who replied to the problem I am having with JAWS not reading the subject line on my Outlook e-mail list.  I tried all of your suggestions of Shutting down and restarting, maximizing the screen, and etc. with no success.  Well, this morning, I called JAWS and they tried to help by installing JAWS 15 up from JAWS 13.  The installation went well, but JAWS was still reading my e-mail list in Outlook without mentioning the subject.  Now, instead of reading the e-mail on the list once, it is reading it twice.  The tech at JAWS did not know what else to do.  I am sure having a terrible time in opening up every e-mail to see what the subject is about.  Now I noticed that I am finding enormous difficulties trying to find some of my old e-mails by subject since JAWS is not reading them.  I sure am sinking fast.

Thank you to all who have tried to help.

Al,

I'm also using Outlook 2010 on a Windows 7 computer but with Fusion/JAWS 2018. From time to time I'll get similar behavior from Outlook where it says the sender's name and some number without speaking the subject as I'm arrowing through my messages in my inbox. When this happens, I shut Outlook down, restart it, and the problem usually goes away. But it does recur from time to time and I've decided it has nothing to do with any setting and is just a program burp that normally corrects when I restart Outlook.

I know this is not a definitive answer but hopefully the fact that I'm experiencing a similar issue that corrects itself with a restart will be of some help.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

This morning when I opened up my computer to read my unread e-mails, JAWS was reading a bit strange.  When I was down arrowing my list of e-mails, JAWS was saying Unread, the sender’s name, 210/, the date, the time and the size of the e-mail.  Today for some reason, it refused to mention the subject line as in the past.  The only difference was that after the senders name, it announced 210/.  I can’t remember if it announced 210/ in the past.  I don’t know what I may have pressed to cause this problem.  It sure is annoying that I need to open up every e-mail to find out what the subject of the e-mail is about.

Also, and I do not know if this is a related problem is that when I am writing an e-mail and I do not want to send it that very minute, I was able to send it to my Draft box.  Now as of today I do not know where my un-mailed e-mail is going.  I am wondering if these two problems are related.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Please bear in mind that I’m not very computer literate, and I need instruction in steps.

Thanks,

Al

Hi,

For some reason, it turned out to be the lead other apps control the sound card option. Once I uncheck that, everything ran fine. Thanks for the suggestions. Now my problem is, there is a sound blaster app, but it says I don’t have a device. There seem to be two separate listings for sound blaster in my device list.

Hi Bill,
If only one channel of your sound card is working, regardless of which
screen reader you use, it suggests a few things to me. First, plug a pair
of headphones or earbuds into the card's headphone output to check whether
both channels are sounding. TIf both channels are balanced, then check
your speaker cables and connections. Ideally, connect another audio
generating device to the same speakers to test whether the right channel
works.
Finally, go into the Sounds dialogue in the control panel

and check your speaker levels. The levels tab is the second from the left.
You will see a slider for your output levels, but you will also see a
balance button. Activate it with the spacebar or enter, and make sure that
your left and right channels have the same level.

My hunch is that this is a hardware issue, since it's happening with all
your installed screen readers. That's why it's really imperative to check
the soundcard's output with headphones and the speaker's output with
another device. This is how you'll narrow down the culprit of this
problem.

I hope all this helps,

Hello Glenn,

The letter p that follows the caret should not be capitalized.  I think I might have put it as a capital P in my earlier message today.  Sorry for the confusion.  The replace with box should contain:

^p^&^p

I tested it myself and it worked so I think it will work for you once you make the p lower case.

Take care.

Here is something you can try, but please make a copy of the file first in case some dates in other formats are changed.  First, in the replace box you can use ^P^& and the date will go to a new line but text might follow it on the line.  If you use ^p^&^p in the replace box (no spacing) then the dates will be by themselves on a line.

In the Find edit box paste the following:

<([0-9]@[/.-])([0-9]@[/.-])([0-9]@>)

I have noticed that dates with dashes instead of slashes are also affected.  It might be that the only date format not affected is if the dates are written in words and not numbers.

Take care.

Hi,

Part of my challenge here is that Jaws 2018 in Windows 7 and Word 2000 keeps crashing when I move through the more options in the search and replace.

I am trying to figure out how to find and replace dates in a word document with hundreds of dates like:

10/09/2018

I need to put a return in front of each date so each date is on a new line before I import it into Excel.

I know that I can use \r\n in front of whatever wildcard I use for the date, but nothing I use works as a wildcard in the find field.

I have been trying this in Notepad++ as well, the wildcards are somewhat different, but similar.

Could anyone here send me a string that will find all dates in the given format?

I have been trying to figure out the brackets and parenthesis and the back slashes in the proper string.

Thanks.

Glenn
