Re: Webpages Timing Out

I also have FIOS, and it never happens to me except when a website times me out. It's hard to believe JAWS itself would be the culprit. True, JAWS slows down the rate at which pages open, something JAWS 2019 may alleviate, but it doesn't make webpages time out. I'm no expert in these things, but I wonder if your browser has an excessive security setting or whether some background program is causing the connection to be sluggish.

Hi, Folks. I'm using Jaws 2018. I notice that when I often go into a
page from a link within an email, I get a "webpage timed out". Any way
to stop this from happening? I often have to get out of IE and back in

Matt,

Well if you have had the ongoing problems with JAWS being hesitant or very
slow to respond since version 17, then yes, I'd think JAWS is the culprit.
Give NVDA a try for a while to see if the problem disappears. I might do
that, myself just for grins.

jaws friendly screen writing software

Marvin Hunkin <neilmarvin@...>

Hi. need to use an accessible screen writing software. Doing a gaming course from http://www.upskilled.edu.au and was trying to use adobe story cc 2017 and adobe classic. But adobe cc is totally useless with jaws and adobe classic will be no more from janaury 2019. So my question is, what free accessible screen writing software do people use. As don’t have a credit card.

Any ideas, suggestions, or software that works. Have just posted to the adobe story forum. See if any developers are there.

Thanks.

Hi Justin,

If you don't find a way to mark where you left off, try the following:
1. Open the PDF file and press Alt + E for the edit menu.
2. Arrow up / down to Accessibility submenu, press enter and arrow up / down to, Setup Assistant..., and press enter.
3. You'll now be on a screen that says, Set all accessibility options radio button checked, 3 of 3.  Arrow up to, Set options for screen readers radio button checked 1 of 3.
4. Tab to the, Next button, press the spacebar and you'll hear Accessibility Setup screen 2 of 4.  Tab to the, Next button, press the spacebar and you'll hear, screen 3 of 4.  Tab to the, Next button, press the spacebar and you'll be on screen 4 of 4 and this is the screen you want to make a change on.
5. Tab a couple of times to, Reopen documents to the last viewed page, check box not checked, and check this box with the spacebar.  Now tab to the, Done button, and press enter to save and close.

Hello,
I have just upgraded to a new computer with Windows 10 using JAWS
2018. I have downloaded and installed the newest version of terra term
(4.100) and have followed the steps found on
https://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list@.../msg19270.html
excluding creating the fancy script.

On my previous computer, operating windows 7 and JAWS 13, I had no
problems with terra term (do not know the version but installed it in
2012). It operated as well as could be expected and did not prevent me
from smoothly using the terminal. My screen on my new computer is
slightly smaller than my previous computer (but I messed around with
the 80x24 display so I think that is ruled out). After changing the
terra term settings and saving, I have come across the following
problems with my new computer and windows, jaws, and terra term
versions:
1. in the command line, , the letters that make up the command are not
all said. Some are skipped or multiple letters are combined into one
word.
2. using EMACS -nw, the same kind of thing happens. Letters are
skipped over, or letter groupings are said as one unit instaed of just
a single letter.

Problems 1 and 2 make it nearly impossible to edit files or figure out
what the command is. On the bright side, it seems like using the JAWS
curser does the same things as previous so no problems directly
reading messages written to the terminal screen while in session.
Has anyone run across the same problems? If not, what terminal works
the best for a windows machine and how to configure it?

Re: sending a screen shot

Van Lant, Robin

Bring your paystub up on screen and maximize the window.  Hit print screen to capture the image.  In email programs, you can typically just hit Control V to paste it into the message body.  I’m not sure this works the same if you are using web-mail.  If you aren’t sure if the information you need is on screen at the time you hit Print sScreen, I think you could try saving the image and use the JAWS OCR function to read the image.

This copies it to the clip board.

I Normally then open paint, with start, run and pbrush.

Open a new file and use ctrl+v to paist the image in.

Hope this is of some help?

I have Outlook/Word 2016 set to autocorrect my typing. When that click is heard, two things may be happening almost simultaneously. First, JAWS picks up an error. Second, autocorrect fixes it.

Note that autocorrect doesn’t fix every spelling error, so sometimes the click really does indicate that there’s still an error there.
