Re: A Question about chrome settings

Glenn / Lenny

My solution is to go to the Google chrome icon on the desktop, and press alt + enter
On the first field, the target, press the end key, and then a space.
Then paste in the URL you want to open.
Shift tab to apply and space bar, and then shift tab to okay or close and enter.
This works for FF too, and maybe IE.

Subject: [jaws-users] A Question about chrome settings

I was trying to help a friend set up her chrome.

In the tutorial from a list member, It said:

Next Important heading:

On Start up.

Here is where you put in your URL that you want to show as soon as you start Chrome.

There are three radio buttons to pick from, but I chose to open with a specific page or pages, which is the third radio button.

Under this, you can type in the URL of the web site that you want to open when you start Chrome.

We chose the third button but could not figure out how to enter a web address.

Underneath my checkboxes is the address for google, but JAWS does not list that as being in an edit box.

I set Chrome up so long ago that I can’t remember what I did.

We experimented with the options that followed, more actions, add a new page and use current page, I think it said.  She saw no edit box.

When I google, I find the following directions:

• Open Chrome.

• Click the overflow icon that looks like three vertical dots in the upper right corner.

• Click to open the Settings menu.

• Scroll down and click on Advanced Settings.

• Select Open a specific page or set of pages under On Startup.

• Select Set pages.

list end

Obviously as a keyboard user, I can’t get to that overflow icon as they called it with JAWS and this opens a menu of options not available from the settings menu from the alt key menu.

What are we missing?

Thanks.

Rebecca

Hi Richard,

Try clicking on the link below:

If that doesn't work try the following:
1. Log into your Groups.io account at, http://groups.io
2. Find your groups / subscriptions and   checkthe the, Jaws-Users, checkbox.
3. Arrow down 1 time I think to, Jaws-Users link, press enter and this will put you on the Messages page where you'll find the archives.  This is also the page that the link above should take you to.
Take care.  Go Rams!

I did not find it from any of the links at the bottom of the group emails.

How would anyone be able to find info on this registry cleaner in the

I certainly wouldn't think to look a subject line about chrome!

Hi,

I like Chrome, but I uninstalled it because I kept getting these spam-like popup, and no matter what settings I changed, they kept coming.

I would have to go into task manager to close all instances of it to get the popup to stop.

Anyway, I downloaded the installer again and it won't install.

I go into task manager and it says google chrome updater

I then close it and try again.

I downloaded the stand alone copy, and the same story.

Any ideas why it freezes and will not install?

There are settings so you can tell it where to place it.
I've never had to do this, but if it would not boot, I'd boot to a talking WinPE and restore it.
Windows typically will use the last good registry if it has trouble booting.

selecting lines and columns in Open Office

Glenn / Lenny

Hi,
I usually use Excel because there a lot of keyboard commands built-in with it.
I am unable to use Excel for my CSV file, because Excel shifts all the commas over, and apparently Open Office does not do this.
So I opened my file in Open Office, and Jaws is reading the cells and menus, and I went through all the menus and tried the application key to no avail.
I need to be able to select entire rows.
In Excel, that is shift + space bar.
That does not seem to work in Open Office.
Windows 7 and Jaws 18.
Thanks for any assistance.

Hi Glenn,

After you click on the install button there's another button or checkbox you have to respond to.  It's a license agreement or something of that nature.  If you can't get it installed go to,

and get / install it from there.

Windows 7 64 and Jaws 2018

Thanks

Hi Dennis,
It does work well with Jaws, although the terms are a bit confusing, I think that for a while I was scanning but not repairing, but you can tab to everything and read what it's doing.
It does read out its percentage while scanning too.

Hi okay if you run this?

Now if you have purchased and and run it how do you know what you need to keep and don't need to keep?

I mean what can you safely delete and keep like if you know longer need windows live mail for example.

How then to you using this program make sure that you got rid of all of what goes along with that program?

And not other stuff that you need for your machine to run?
