Well, now that I solved the problem of getting Adobe Acrobat to work
with IE, I discovered that my new Windows 10 computer from Computers for
the Blind came with Firefox 67 already installed.?? I want to make
Google.com my home page, but I cannot find any option on the
Tools-Options menu to accomplish this.?? Previous versions of Firefox had
an option on the General tab of the options menu to set the home page,
but Firefox 67 seems to have a completely different interface and I
cannot find any way to set the home page.?? Any help would be
appreciated.?? Thanks.

Starting the PC without Jaws

Hi there,

a friend of mine uses Jaws 2018. Now he wants Jaws not to be loaded when the PC is started. How and where is it possible to deactivate this feature?

Hi Glen i did read that post of yours.

Hi Michael,
It was going well after I changed the sound device in jaws settings, if you want, I can give you the steps for that.
I had posted a message to the list about it a week or so back.
I think that was working, but then I was trying to clean some files because my windows would not update, and I think I had some malware, and it broke my partition table, so I found an older drive that had nearly a fresh install of Windows 7 on it for this computer, so I swapped out the hard drives and I'm still setting things up again.
But so far, no issues with this one.
I think that sound card thing I mentioned before in Jaws settings helped, and I will eventually check this computer's recent installation settings in there too.

Hi Glen i was wondering how your sound issue is going now.

I have had the sound go on this laptop a few times a day for the last 3 days.

I have installed the latest win 10 and it still did it.

but i read that all our drivers must be up to date.

I have been in the device setting and tried updating all my drivers.

windows tells me they all up to date.

so i installed a driver updater and it found 8 out dated drivers including my sound driver.

So i will see how computer goess for next few days.

I have been looking for my scanner cd it got put away i let you know when i find it.

Cheers michael.

Memory should not be the problem for most things.
I have a laptop with only two gig of RAM and it runs well.
I think that the more programs we install, whether they are running or not, slow down a computer.
As soon as I get all my data backed up, I plan on reinstalling Windows 7 on this computer.
Although that may not be the cause of this issue, it may exacerbate the problem.

Your system is a little lite on memory, but I wouldn’t say for sure that is the reason for the problem. I had this issue a long time ago and if memory serves it had something to do with sound card drivers.

Hi Tom i am not sure if your sound issue is same as mine.

I have had an issue off and on for about 2 years now on only 2 of my
cheaper Laptops.

My issue is out of the blue jaws will be talking fine then all of a
sudden jaws witll get really reverby and little un responsive.

And i need to do a restart of my computer and the sound is all back to
normal.

But my issue can happen 3 times in half hour.

Or it may not stuff up for days.

2 years ago i did a total reinstalled windows 10 on 1 machine and it
fixed it for ages.

Then few months back it started up again.

Each time this happens i have found under my reliability history in win
10 tells me their was a error saying windows host process has stopped
working or not responding and had to close.

I have had stacks of thoes errors come up.

Most reports have been reported to Microsoft but no fixes.

And i have reinstalled the realteck audio drivers lots of times by
uninstalling drivers under devices.

So i am frustrated as well.

I have 3 dearer laptops with Realteck sound cards and never had a
problem with them.

I feel its something to do with the drivers.

Cheers Michael.

Hello, everyone.

You may recall that last week, I had a Jaws distorted speech problem
with my Dell Windows 10 computer.

The problem was fixed by uninstalling the Windows generic sound card
driver and replacing it with a realtech driver thanks to an executable
file from Mike Mote.

Unfortunately, my problem has returned, but in a different form.

My jaws speech is slightly distorted in the laptop speakers, and when
I use headphones, I get stereo sound with a slight reverberation,
rather than Jaws being in the center of the headphones.

Does anyone have any suggestions for solving this latest issue?

I’m using the latest build of Jaws 2019.

Thanks as always.

You can be using the headset on the computer but if a phone call comes in, just move the switch to BT and answer the call without even picking up the phone.

The headset is over the ear but I have no problem hearing everything around me me and they are very light weight.

I haven't followed this thread but, when I hear, Parent Document, I go to the file menu, choose, Save as, and save it as a Adobe ...file.  I don't recall the exact verbiage but, doing this saves the PDF file in Documents / My Documents folder and possibly the Downloads folder depending on where I saved to last.

Just install the new windows. It is very fast at lease for now. Works well so far. Question when I went to clear more space when I went to setting, I was giving a choice to also clear previous windows version. I did not check on it because I was not sure. Anyone has done it?
