Re: Reading a PDF with adobe

Rebecca Lineberger

I posted this several weeks ago.

Adobe did something that Broke JAWS, as Vispero tech support said, but it’s easily fixed.

Open Adobe, either from the icon on your desktop, or from the start menu.

Press control-k.

Press s till you hear

Security enhanced.

There is a checkbox that says,

Enable protected mode at startup.  It’s checked.  Press the spacebar to uncheck it.

If you get a warning message, that’s okay.  You need to change this to make it work.

Tab to OK.

Tab to OK again.

Now it works as it should.

Hi All,

I am using JAWS 2018, windows 10 and the free version of adobe reader.

After downing a document, JAWS will say the percentage of the down load and then it just say blank, it won’t read the document.

I know that there is text because my nephew was helping me and he could read everything that was on  the page.

We tried using I E and googol chrome and we got the same results.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem.

Thanks in advance and have a nice weekend.

Using the latest Win 10 version 1809 and Jaws 2019, when arrowing by character or using the insert plus arrows to move word by word in WLM Jaws is very sluggish to respond. It does not seem to affect Word so I am just wondering if anyone else is seeing this behavior. I guess it might be the editor used in WLM. It is the same with Jaws 2018 and with either a vocalizer voice or Eloquence.

I’m not sure anymore if 2018 has the same feature as 2019 which has a built in OCR which converts the PDF so that JAWS will read.

is there any way to control the volume of the you tube video player?

Jim Rawls

Hi all,

I am running windows ten and jaws 2019.

I notice that sometimes the volume on the you tube video player can be quite loud. I want to lower the volume on that player without lowering the volume level on my computer. Is this ;possible? If so how do I do it.

Thanks for your help in advance. Jim

Sorry to say, but i doubt a powerbraille will work now. If you’re computer is 64-bit that is a kiss of death to a lot of older displays. You can always check with Freedom Scientific.

I’m using google chrome 74 I believe, when I go to my facebook account the first time I used it with chrome I signed in, however that first time I think chrome saved my log in.  now when I go to facebook, I’m automatically signed in.  but shouldn’t there be a sign out button on facebook?

I did the same with my amazon account, but on amazon there is a sign out button which I press and whenever I go back I must enter my password.

Shouldn’t that be the same in facebook?

It  is possible with JAWS startup wizard.

Press insert+J then go to help sub menue, open with right arrow.

Now you will find startup wizard press enter there you will find that option in the second screen!

I recommend deactivating the license first.

You could use Narrator or NVDA to do the actual uninstall, because I’ll suspect you will be in demo mode after deactivating JAWS.

You could find the Jaws folder in the all programs menu, and right arrow, then down arrow to I think it was called utilities, right arrow and then down arrow to uninstall, or go to Control Panel, Programs and Features and arrow down to Freedomscientific jaws version….and hit enter.

You may have to uninstall all the parts that way.

As I mentioned previously, I followed another list member's instructions, and was able to get PDF documents to read in IE using Adobe Acrobat.?? On the IE Tools menu, I selected Manage Add-ons -Tool Bars & Extensions.?? I scrolled to?? all Add-ons?? in the combo box and hit space to display allAdd-ons?? and scrolled to Adobe PDF Reader. Using the context menu, I selected disable?? to disable this add-on which was enabled by default.?? I know this sounds counterintuitive, but apparently, the Adobe PDF add-on must be disabled in order for IE to read PDF documents.??
