Did you try checking the box to respond to messages using the same format as the sender? This is the only thing I can think of that might cause this.

Hi all,

With the latest version of JAWS, I encounter the above problem. However, JAWS will only read when there is no other item to open with right arrow. Does anyone encounter this and is there a solution? Thanks.

I am using windows 8.1 with the latest JAWS version.

Hello;

not sure why you heard,

calendar, customize ribbon, when you pressed alt+c=charley,

Alt+f=file,

T=options,

M=mail,

Now tab twice, you should hear/see,

compose messages in this format combo box,

now arrow and make your choice,

now shift+tab enter on ok button.

Hi David,

Thank you for those steps. I was able to get to mail, but when I did alt c Jaws said calendar, when I did it again it said customize ribbon which oviously isn’t what I want and not what it was supposed to say according to your steps. Any idia why it didn’t say customize like it was supposed to? Do you think that it’s possible that Outlook is already set to plain text? If not, then do you know how to set it to plain text? Someone else suggested that setting it to plain text might be better then setting it to HTML. What do you think? Yes I do copy and paste addresses into the address bar, the problem that I’m having is more when there’s a link that says something like read more which I oviously can’t put in the address bar because it isn’t an actual URL. Look forward to hearing back from you! Feel free to email me privately if you prefer. Thanks

note:  you don't need to delete the e-mail just because a link won't work,

you could always copy the link to clipboard,

take it to your browser, paste into the addressbar, and press enter.

this should get you to the article information.

Madison,

It’s tough without seeing the articles, but here are the tricks I use for my newsletter emails.

  1. If available, click the link in the email that often says something like, “if this email is not appearing properly, click this link to view in a web browser.”
  2. See if the title of the article is also a link.  In our daily industry newsletter here at work, I find the news story title is a link that works better than the “Read more” link for whatever reason.
  3. Try using the JAWS F7 keystroke to pull up a list of links in the email and activate the link from there.  I realize this may not work well if you end up with this list of links that all say “read more” or such, but you may find is helpful.

Let us know if that helps.

Hi all,

I have a problem that’s driving me nuts. I am subscribed to a number of newsletters and most of them have links to click on so that you can either read eith the whole story or the rest of the story. My question is:

When I click on a link sometimes it opens but most of the time it doesn’t so I’m wondering, is there some setting or something that I need to change so that when ever I click on a link in one of these newsletters it will open in my browser? I’m using Jaws 15, Windows 7, Outlook 2013 and Internet Explorer. I really hope that someone can help me, lots of the time I end up having to delete the email because I can’t read the story/article that I want to read. Look forward to hearing back from anyone who can help me! Thanks

Hello Lynn:

I assume you mean that your friend muted his sound card, not his keyboard; if so, and that has happened to me, the easiest thing to do is to use USB headphones which use their own soundcard instead of the system's and thus, being able to listen, go to the System Tray > Sounds and unmute it.

BTW, someone in this list told us not long ago about a program called Stascom that prevents that from happening.

Best,

I really wouldn't depend on IE for anything anymore. You'll have to

Your experience really will be better with Google Chrome or perhaps

IE is not supportted anymore.
the learning curve might be a little stiff but, better to move on now.
I can't even get my IE to come up anymore. I moved on to Chrome a

Re: outlook

Van Lant, Robin

Patti,

I am not on my laptop with Outlook 2010 at the moment, but I am pretty sure what I am seeing in Outlook 2016 is the same as you’ll have.    First, open your sent mail folder.  Then, go to the View ribbon, then tab over several times to a button called Add Columns.  Click this and you’ll open a dialog box.  Tab a couple times until you land in a g that allows you to select from all available columns.  The “To:” filed is the last one in my list, so probably the same for  you.  Once you are on it, press tab once to the Add button.  I think Alt A will also work.  Then tab a couple times more to see the list of all columns currently being displayed. You can use a couple other buttons in this dialog to sort the order of the columns so they display in the order you wish.  I’m hoping you are computer savvy enough to play with this and figure it out as I don’t have a lot of time tonight to type out the step by step directions.   I’m frankly surprised that this is displaying for you in this way.  The default for Outlook in the Send Folder is to show the To column and not your name.  It’s possible that you modified some other folder view and applied it to all of your Outlook folders, causing this issue.  Whatever changes you make to this Sent Folder, be sure you apply the changes only to the current folder and not to all folders.

Inserting headers in Office 365

Teri McElroy

Hi

I'm running Jaws 18 latest build with Office 365.

I need to insert a header that will go at the top of each page in several documents. Can anyone suggest an easier way to do this? I go to insert, headers and footers and select edit header.

When I paste in the text I want, I can't close the edit field.

If I tab to try and locate a close button, a tab is inserted in the header text.

I've tried using the jaws cursor but can't find anything to tell me where a close button is.

Can anyone help?

Thanks all.

Thanks

Madison

Alt+f=file,

T=options,

M=mail,

alt+c=compose,

now arrow and make your choice,

now shift+tab enter on ok button.

note:  you don't need to delete the e-mail just because a link won't work,

you could always copy the link to clipboard,

take it to your browser, paste into the addressbar, and press enter.

this should get you to the article information.

Hi Robin and all,

Thank you for your segestions Robin, however none of those seem to work consistently. Do any of you very knowledgible people know how to set outlook 2013 so that it will process HTML? Look forward to hearing back from anyone who can help me! Thanks

Thanks

Madison

jaws & windows 10 mail;

Good afternoon all,

perhaps someone whose using the windows 10 mail app could answer my question.

One of my clients who just updated to windows 19.3 using jaws 19 latest update,

he's having allot of trouble with his mail.

ctrl+r=reply  doesn't work

when he arrows through the messages he's placed back on the desktop,

obviously, this is not normal, is there a setting he can change?

I use outlook, have very little experience with the mail app.

in advance, thank you.

Hi,

I do a lot of researching, and I noticed when tabbing through the tool bars in FF that there is a reader mode.

I tried it, and it made my reading much more pleasurable, as it sucks arrowing through those ads with a screenreader, and it really interrupts concentrating on what you are reading.

Anyway, is there a hotkey to go into reader mode?

Thanks.

Glenn

I think that you just need to set your default eMail program.
Tap the windows key and type in default program and follow the prompts.

It seems that when I try to E-mail a link to someone, Outlook wants me to open a new account. How do I stop this behavior?
