If you're using the search box on the Start menu, you often get better results if you search for a specific category of results.

One way of limiting  a search to a category is by typing the category followed by a colon followed by your search terms. For example, if you are looking for a document which is either named fred or contains the word fred, you can type doc:fred. You can use the following words to specify the category which is searched: app, doc, folder, music, photo, setting, video, and web. Where appropriate you can also use the plural form of these words, so for example, you could search using either app:fred or apps:fred. You can also use document rather than doc, if you really want to type the extra letters.

Hi. I had this problem on my previous computer, but not 100% of the time. Now it’s 100%  (or maybe 99.999%) reproducible.

I go into Outlook or Word and generate an e-mail or document. I spellcheck – either by pressing F7 or by sending and having Outlook auto-spellcheck. The first error and suggested correction works fine. When I press a key combo (change, ignore, add, etc) the programs go to the next error, but JAWS does not  read them. It stops and says nothing. If I right-arrow I can hear the error letter by letter, but not the change suggestions.

I’m using latest JAWS, Windows-10 and Office 2019. This is a major issue and seems to clearly be a JAWS interaction issue.

How can I fix this?

I thought I solved my problem. Well, I did, sort of. Jaws is no longer

says a random word which starts with a letter that it seems to
arbitrarily choose.
For example, I re-read the word, "occasionally", just now to check my
spelling, and Jaws then chose the letter I and said a word starting
with that letter . I've now used the insert 2 method in addition to
the more comprehensive insert 6 method, and I'm hoping that Jaws will
stop providing me with these random words.

What you need to do is export your Quicken accounts as separate export files. I only use Quicken for my checking and savings, so if you go into the export submenu of Quicken, it will give you the option of exporting checking, savings or all. You cannot select all. Instead, you select checking and then savings or the other way around. This will give you two QIF files and you import them separately to Money Talks.

 

For some reason it didn't let me name them on the import and the name I chose for each one didn't show up. That may be only because I'm using the demo.

I'm not sure if this means that Money Talks requires you to keep separate files for your checking account, credit card, savings account, investment accounts, etc. whereas Quicken keeps all of these accounts in the same file. I guess I'll learn more about this if I continue exploring but if anyone using Money Talks can comment, I would appreciate it.

I was a long time Quicken user.  I have downloaded the demo of MoneyTalks from APH.  Others on the list have used it and it seems like it has the features I need.  Havent’ tried it yet, but I think it will be a good replacement for Quicken.  I do believe that it will take the Quicken files so that you can transfer over data. You may need to explore a file fomr Quicken and then import it to MoneyTalks.

It should be able to import the data file from your export or backup from Quicken.

I'm lazy, and let my wife handle Quicken since it does not work at all well with Jaws and we do not need QuickBooks.

I too used to make the subject less descriptive, and years back when I realized that all the web searches I do gave me needed information and the information I found was from lists like this, and non-Blindness lists, I realized the importance of having a meaningful subject.

Web searches, like with Google, provide more meaningful results if we use subject lines that relate to our message.

Sometimes we feel like it only affects this list and its members, but it affects the entire world.

Most list archives are available to web searches and people not on the list from around the world will be reading our messages.

So when I create a subject, I always give it some thought, as to what I'd be searching for in Google.

JAWS is indicating the phonetic pronunciation of the letter when you move to
it and pause. You can adjust these settings in: Insert+6 for configuration
manager, Text Processing, General, Phonetic Announcement.
