This is probably a useless suggestion, but are you making sure that the Chrome window is maximized. I have a hot key set to run it maximized and sometimes a Windows update will change the properties and remove the hot key.

On my new Windows 10 machine, JAWS completely stops reading anything in Chrome. Each time I reboot, they work fine together, but not for more than, say, an hour. Not only won't JAWS read content, but it also can't read menus, etc. When this happens, I select the webpage's address, and even though JAWS can't read it, I can paste the copy into IE and open the page there. Since Chrome is now my default, this is a serious limitation.

This machine is solid state. I'm confident I have enough RAM, but I haven't yet figured out where I can get system information and so can't report the exact number. Windows key+pause no longer does the trick, nor does opening properties on the C drive.

Any ideas?

I have been using Quicken 2003 for years as my check register.  However I recently bought a new computer running latest Windows 10 and latest Jaws 2018.  I tried to install Quicken 2003 from the program disk but cannot get it to accept my personal.qdf file from my old computer.  So I would like to know if there is another fairly simple check register I can install on my new computer.  Any help would be appreciated.

Rebecca, it's reassuring to know the experience isn't unique to me, although I don't mean to say that misery loves company. The next time Chrome and JAWS get into a tiff with each other, I'll close and restart JAWS. At least it's less radical than rebooting the computer. Thanks.

Hi Adrian,
I'm using Windows 10, 1803, with the latest versions of JAWS and Chrome, and with 16 G of RAM.. Sometimes when a page loads, the page just isn't there. It doesn't happen in IE, or in Edge, so I'm assuming it's somehow related to how JAWS and Chrome play together, or how they don't. Smile. I either alt-f4 out and try again, or restart JAWS. I don't have the free screen reader installed on my computer, so I can't test things outside of JAWS. But I don't recall this ever happening when I used Window-Eyes.

Its completely accessible, Greg, with either self-voicing or you can just use Jaws.  You can calibrate your checks to be printed if you want.

Hi Mike,

I don't know if the steps below will work, but you can  give them a try to see if they help, it's worth a shot.

1. Open Acrobat Reader and press, Alt + E, to open the edit menu
2. Arrow up to, Accessibility submenu and press enter.
3. Arrow to Setup Assistant and press enter.
4. Tab to, Next, and press the spacebar to open.
5. Now, you should be on screen 2 of 5.  Tab through each screen pressing the spacebar on the next button for each screen until you reach screen 5 of 5.  On screen 5 if you tab a couple of times you'll come to,
Reopen documents to the last viewed page
press the spacebar to checkthis box, and tab to the, Done, button, and press enter to save and close.
Please let the list know if this does what you wanted.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the msinfo32 command. However, I don't seem to be getting JAWS to read all the details. For example, within the hardware section there's a line saying simply "Memory." I can't get any elaboration, such as by pressing F6, enter or right-arrow.
For the record, I have 16 gigs of RAM, so memory doesn’t explain my Chrome problem.

GNUCash might work.  See:  https://gnucash.org/features.phtml

It's gross overkill in terms of features, and I have not played with it as far as accessibility goes, but it is open source and a check register is one of its major functions.

Others you might want to look at include KMyMoney, Microsoft's own Money Plus Sunset Deluxe
which is free (though it may not work on Windows 10, you'd have to try it, last release was in 2010), or even possibly hledger (though I'd say that one's least likely).
