Re: JAWS and Outlook 2016 contacts folder
Dave... <dgcarlson@...>
Adrian,
Using Outlook 2007 here. The only view I found easy to use
is the "Detailed Address List". I've customized that view so that I have the
information on a single line, and with the most relevant showing (name, address,
phone, email). I doubt that editing in Notepad and pasting will work. The
entry/edit process uses a pop up dialog that you need to tab
through.
Having said that, you can export your contacts to a
MS-Excel 97 format file and I suspect you can do a lot of faster editing
there. Keep only those contacts that you actually change and save the Excel
file. Then use the "import from a file" function to bring those changed items
back. I suggest you select "allow duplicates" or some of those changes may not
import, depending on what parts you change. Then in your contacts list, just
delete the older versions of the contacts.

folder I find the contacts list in Outlook hard to read and edit with JAWS. I just now experimented by making a copy of the entire Outlook contacts folder and pasting it into Notepad. Now I can read it easily, and I see it needs some editing.
Here’s my question: Can I copy a Notepad file with my revised contacts list into Outlook’s contact folder? Will it completely replace Outlook’s existing folder, and if so, will Outlook work with it?
Thanks.

Thanks, Jorge. But though I’ve tried several ways of following your steps after pressing shift-control-b, I can get only one contact at a time. It’s unwieldy.

Hi, Open the address book press control shift B, or try the alt period command, and press alt enter and press the tab key and you can start re-editing the contact, keep on tabbing to the email edit . . . and make your changes and press alt S to save.
Or, hightlight a contact and press the content menu and arrow to delete-enter, must confirm the deletion press spacebar. Or select properties-enter from the content menu. and make your changes and save

Adrian, I am not brave enough to try what you are proposing, and I would not think it would work, as Outlook uses essentially a table for all the information. In your situation, I would use the notepad file as a reference and then go into each contact to edit it. If it’s helpful, I have my Outlook Contacts set to Business Card view. You can arrow through the contacts and use first letter navigation to jump to the first contact starting with that letter. In Business Card view. Hit enter on the card you want to edit, and tab through the fields. I did not have much luck with list view in the past using Window Eyes, but maybe others have suggestions on their preference methods.

Re: Computer with credit card reader.
Angel
I am glad this option was suggested for the reading
of credit cards. I assumed these readers were created, and were used by
business owners only. My daughter owns one. Which i I will have a
look at. I have long wanted to find an independent way to read the
expiration date, and the cv number on the back of the card for myself. I
even suggested to my bank that in the messages section of ones account page at
the bank, such could be written for and transmitted to us. Either the bank
was unwilling to follow up with the suggestion. Which I made to
them. Or it was not properly understood by those who took it. Either
way, whether one chooses to employ the use of these card readers, or not, they
are a most useful tool. For those who strive for total and complete
independence. As far as it is possible to achieve it from sighted
assistance. I have saved the tip explaining the procedure for reading the
cards. I have never seen such readers.

Actually, you might be surprised what OCR can do. Do you have a newer iPhone or a phone with a high definition camera? If so, will your phone allow you to install an app called Seeing AI? If so, you might want to give it a shot and see what happens. If you've got a steady hand and patience, you might be surprised at what you can get it to recognize. It won't get the card number, but you might be able to get everything else including the CID.

Hello,
I have been following this thread, and here is what I’ve always done. Once I’ve read a message, I simply hit escape on my keyboard and it takes me back to the message list. If I no longer want the message I just read I hit delete. If I want to save it for some reason, I hit my applications key, arrow up to move option, arrow right once, and here is a list of the last few folders I’ve moved a message to. They are listed in descending order from most recent to more distance ones. At the bottom of the list is an “other” choice and all the way to the bottom a copy to folder choice. Selecting either of these two takes me to a tree of email accounts and folders. I can move or copy the message anywhere I choose in that tree or if it does not apply to any choice I can create a new location. Anyway just thought I’d pass this along.

Hi, Tom.
I have an alternative method that uses most of your steps but that has a big advantage.
First, instead of keeping the message open, close it with escape and place focus against it in the message list. Press alt-f for file, then a for “save as.” In the initial field, type not only the name you want for the document, but also the path beginning with c:\ (assuming you’re saving it to the hard drive). Now, as in your instructions, tab once to the file format list and arrow up or down to the format you want. I typically select .TXT. Tab to save and press spacebar.
What is the advantage of this procedure? If you want to create a single text file for all the messages, say, in a folder, you can do so by first pressing control-a for “all.” Then the “alt-f, a” (for “save as”) will include all the messages you want saved into that single file.
To elaborate a little, suppose you don’t want to include all the messages in a file folder in that single text file, but only some. I create a new Outlook folder, then move the messages I want into that folder. Now I move focus to the new folder, press control-a, and continue from there.
Copying a series of messages into a single text file can be very useful. True, you’re stuck with all the headers, which is when your MS Word editing skills come into play. From: jaws-users-list@groups.io <jaws-users-list@groups.io> On Behalf Of Tom Behler
Michelle:
When an e-mail message you want to save is open, go to the file menu in Outlook, and arrow down to the Save As option.
When there, hit enter, and you will be put into the file name field.
Tab once, and you should find a file types option, where you can specify what format to save the file in.
I usually do either a .msg format, or a simple .txt format.
Then, go to your folder and file list tree view, and specify where you would like the file to go.
I’m sure there are other ways to do this, but this is the process that works best for me.

Hi, You need to do this with the message still open. So under File, you go to save, or the old control + S should work when you have the message open. HTH. Thanks, in advance, for any assistance.

Is this the case with more than one message – shift up and down arrow, I mean?

Hi, Shift plus up or down arrow is used to select the messages and press the delete key, or press shift delete to delete them to oblivient! Or, press control shift V to move the selected messages to a folder in the treeview list.
HTH,
Jorge, There is no better symbol for the purpose we serve than the emblem every Marine earns: the Eagle, Globe and Anchor. The eagle represents the proud nation we defend. It stands at the ready with our coastlines in sight and the entire world within reach of its outstretched wings. The globe represents our worldwide presence. The anchor points both to the Marine Corps' naval heritage and its ability to access any coastline in the world. Together, the eagle, globe and anchor symbolize our commitment to defend our nation—in the air, on land and at sea.

I am using JAWS 2018 and Office 2016. HOLDING Control, arrowing up and down and hitting space on the messages you want to select still works for me.

Hi all. Have things changed in either of these programs when it comes to selecting emails? I was trying to select various emails from y Sent box in order to delete them, but every time I pressed control up arrow and then space (I was going from the bottom up), JAWS would say “not selected”. Do I have the wrong command? Shouold I have been pressing shift instead?
Thanks.

I find the contacts list in Outlook hard to read and edit with JAWS.
Thanks.

JAWS And Scrivener
michele thredgold
Hi everyone. Can anyone tell me whether Scrivener, a program for writers, is JAWS-friendly. I have heard raving reviews about this program from the Adelaide Writers' Center. Would appreciate any positive or negative feedback.
Cheers! Michele
