Re: Emojis
Rebecca Lineberger
This is the way it works for me. If you want to add an emoji to a blank message or document, press the spacebar before you open the emoji panel. 😊 There was a space to the left of the emoji.) Or, type a sentence.👏 When you find an emoji you like, press enter. Press escape and you will be back in your message or document. In Outlook, you can press either windows key semicolon or windows key period to get to the emoji panel. In my Word 2010, the Windows key semicolon is used by JAWS for something else. If JAWS says that the panel is closed, press an arrow key. Arrow up or down to view the emoji within that category. Or tab till you hear the name of a new category then right arrow to arrow through the categories. Press enter to choose a category. Tab until you hear the number of items in the group, which means you can now arrow up, down, sideways through the emoji for that group. Press enter on one you like, and press escape. I also use Gmail on the web, not through Outlook. The emoji panel works as above there, except that after I’ve pressed escape to leave the emoji panel, I have to shift tab and then tab back to the message, where JAWS then says, contains text, and the text and emoji are there. Otherwise, JAWS doesn’t see or read the information in the edit box. It sounds more complicated than it is. 1, Windows-key+semi colon,

Hello, Rebecca and All,
You are correct, and very happy to tell you that windowskey semi-colon indeed brings up Emojis you can choose from, but Jaws does not speak anything, unless you input a character first, then you can use Jawskey and arrow to hear the choices. Simply arrowing through what you have inserted will not read anything.
Again, I am using Outlook 10 with Windows 10.
Thank you all for leading me to try other things. Right off the bat, when Jaws was silent, I was assuming I had no Emojis available, but when I had some time, started experimenting a little.
Again Jaws will read nothing unless you insert something, then you can use the jaws plus arrow keys to hear your selections you made.

Subject: [jaws-users] Issue With System Sounds In Office
365 Hi,
I am a JAWS 2019 latest build user and my laptop is running WINDOWS 10 (Build 1809).
I am an Office 365 subscriber and have downloaded and installed the suite of Office applications on my computer. I have full desktop versions of WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK etc, as I know that versions, procured from the App Store, do not work well with JAWS.
My issue is that, despite turning on Sounds, within the “Ease Of Access” section of app settings and setting the sound type to “Modern”, I do not hear any system sounds within the applications, for example, when changing folders within OUTLOOK. My overall Volume setting within WINDOWS 10 and, in particular, for System Settings, is at 100% I also do not have any issue hearing JAWS itself.
Has anyone came across this issue and, if so, can you please suggest any possible solutions? I had the Office Sounds working perfectly on my old laptop, running exactly the same operating system and the same JAWS build and I also have it running fine on my work machine, running the same version of JAWS, along with WINDOWS 7.
Any thoughts please?

Hi Somebody please remind me how to manage clickable! I did save the message a while back but can’t seem to find it. Using latest JAWS 19 update with latest W10 update and Google Chrome. Have tried pressing enter, both once and twice, and space bar, but am not sure this is correct. Sometimes links don’t respond.; and with my cognitive issue, I don’t always remember whether certain links are clickable or not. I know JAWS tells us. It’s just when trying to describe it to someone else, I don’t remember which actions I used for what links. Sorry I can’t be more accurate. Thanks heaps. Michele

Glen, it’s the Windows Key+semi’':colon.
Unfortunately, Jaws doesn’t report anything on the screen, but once you press that combination, if you arrow up and down, you get a table of Emoji’s to choose from.
I don’t know what the number at the end means, but pressing enter activates the Emoji.

Windows key-period or windows key-semicolon will open the emoji panel. There are several categories to tab through. The emoji are in grid form so you arrow up and down or sideways to view selections. If you’re looking for something specific, such as a smiling face, you can type smiling, and it will bring up those results. Press enter on the one you want and it will be pasted into your message where your cursor is.😊 Or 👏. From:

You turn on the n☺umber pad and use alt plus the numbers. Smiley face is alt + 1. You will get a character conflict message when sending one. Just enter on send it as is. HTH. Glenn

Judy, I’m curious, what version of Jaws are you running?
I’m using the latest one and It’s speaking out the Emoji's just fine.
Is it possible you’re using something other than HTML to compose your messages?

From: Judy Jones Sent: Sunday, August 18, 2019 10:22 PM To: jaws-users-list@groups.io Subject: [jaws-users] Emojis

Re: Free antivirus programs and Jaws.

It’s only supposed to turn on if your hardware (and drivers and such) are comaptible with it. So if you have a newer version of Windows 10 and can’t seem to get it to turn on, I’d just leave it.

Hi Mike, My other computer has this setting and it was not checked. So now I am wondering what someone else said on this list about if you have 1809 it should be turned on by default. Well I am running 1903 and it was not turned on, on one of my computers. I turned it on but it would not stay on so I believe my hardware is not compatible. Mr. Ed

Hi Mr. Ed,
Try the following: 1. Press Windows key + I, for settings, tab 1 time to, System and findUpdate and Security, press enter. 2. Tab 1 time into your listand down arrow to, Windows Security, and press enter. 3. Tab to, Device Security button, press enter, and you'll land on, Core isolation details link, press enter. 4. You should now have, not checked Memory integrity button, press the spacebar and your computer will let you know if this can be started or not.

Hi, I might have miss this but how do you make sure this is turned on? Mr. Ed
From: jaws-users-list@groups.io [mailto:jaws-users-list@groups.io] On Behalf Of Jason White via Groups.Io
Memory integrity protection uses virtualization hardware in the CPU to protect code in the operating system kernel from malicious modification. That, at least, is what I understand from the documentation.
It’s part of Microsoft’s strategy to make life much more difficult for malware authors, and therefore safer for users.
