I’ve always had mine set to descending and have never had a problem, each time I delete a message the pointer moves to the next message in the list. It’s probably one of them weird quirks between computers.

The way I sort my e-mail list is:

Insert+V then down arrow

right arrow to ‘view settings’ press space bar

Arrow down to sort and press space bar

Here is a list of sort fields, I selected ‘received’ which is the date received field

Right Arrow , here you can set ascending or descending order, I like descending because I like the latest message on top when I come into outlook

Arrow over to ‘ok’ press the enter key

Then arrow down to the ok and press the enter.

Hope this helps you.

Re: Steps to Manage Key Labels in JAWS

Hi Stanley,

I guess you missed this yesterday:  Below are 2 different ways of muting / silencing keys.
#1:
From: Mike B
Try the following:
1. Open the Settings Center with, Insert + 6 on the number row, & press, Control, Shift + D, to open Settings Center Default All Applications.
2. Arrow down to, Keyboard, & press right arrow to open.
3. Arrow down to, Manage Key Labels...., & press the spacebar to open.  Note:  Do not press enter, pressing enter will close the Settings Center.
4. After pressing the spacebar you will be in a list of keys.  Arrow down to the key you want to mute, & Tab 1 time to the, Toggle Mute Button, & press
the spacebar to mute.  You'll hear Jaws announce, for example the Tab key, Tab Tab mute.
5. Tab to, Okay, press the spacebar, tab to, Apply, press the spacebar, tab to, Okay, & press enter to save your change & close the Settings Center.
#2:
From: net bat66
There is a work around for stopping jaws from speaking the control, shift, alt,
etc in the keyboard labeler.
these keys say they can not be muted. but if you tab to change label and delete
the title and leave them blank this will stop them from speaking when you press
them.

Try following the same steps but, set the level to, All, and see if that helps.  Note: to list members:

Summary:  In short the Jaws quick settings tells Jaws what punctuation to recognize / speak, & in the Settings Center default all applications / Customize
Punctuation settings, tells Jaws what punctuation to ignore / not speak.  Hence, they work backwards from each other.

Hope this helps some of you understand the differences between the 2

Ensure Toolbars and extensions radio button is checked.
Filter should be set to all add-ons.
This is the tricky part because after placing this selection in the combo box you must hit the space bar to actually make the selection.
Once this is done a list of about 20 add-ons should appear in the next list. On mine the Adobe add-on is first in the list. It must be set to disable to prevent Adobe from trying to open the document in the IE session and instead calling the external Adobe program.

Re: Jaws Distorted Speech Problem Has Returned

Glenn / Lenny

Hi Michael,
It was going well after I changed the sound device in jaws settings, if you want, I can give you the steps for that.
I had posted a message to the list about it a week or so back.
I think that was working, but then I was trying to clean some files because my windows would not update, and I think I had some malware, and it broke my partition table, so I found an older drive that had nearly a fresh install of Windows 7 on it for this computer, so I swapped out the hard drives and I'm still setting things up again.
But so far, no issues with this one.
I think that sound card thing I mentioned before in Jaws settings helped, and I will eventually check this computer's recent installation settings in there too.

Hi Glen i was wondering how your sound issue is going now.

I have had the sound go on this laptop a few times a day for the last 3 days.

I have installed the latest win 10 and it still did it.

but i read that all our drivers must be up to date.

I have been in the device setting and tried updating all my drivers.

windows tells me they all up to date.

so i installed a driver updater and it found 8 out dated drivers including my sound driver.

So i will see how computer goess for next few days.

I have been looking for my scanner cd it got put away i let you know when i find it.

Cheers michael.

Although that may not be the cause of this issue, it may exacerbate the problem.

Your system is a little lite on memory, but I wouldn’t say for sure that is the reason for the problem. I had this issue a long time ago and if memory serves it had something to do with sound card drivers.

Hi Tom i am not sure if your sound issue is same as mine.

I have had an issue off and on for about 2 years now on only 2 of my
cheaper Laptops.

My issue is out of the blue jaws will be talking fine then all of a
sudden jaws witll get really reverby and little un responsive.

And i need to do a restart of my computer and the sound is all back to
normal.

But my issue can happen 3 times in half hour.

Or it may not stuff up for days.

2 years ago i did a total reinstalled windows 10 on 1 machine and it
fixed it for ages.

Then few months back it started up again.

Each time this happens i have found under my reliability history in win
10 tells me their was a error saying windows host process has stopped
working or not responding and had to close.

I have had stacks of thoes errors come up.

Most reports have been reported to Microsoft but no fixes.

And i have reinstalled the realteck audio drivers lots of times by
uninstalling drivers under devices.

So i am frustrated as well.

I have 3 dearer laptops with Realteck sound cards and never had a
problem with them.

I feel its something to do with the drivers.

Cheers Michael.

Hello, everyone.

The problem was fixed by uninstalling the Windows generic sound card

Unfortunately, my problem has returned, but in a different form.

My jaws speech is slightly distorted in the laptop speakers, and when
I use headphones, I get stereo sound with a slight reverberation,

Does anyone have any suggestions for solving this latest issue?

I’m using the latest build of Jaws 2019.

Hello Lynn:

I assume you mean that your friend muted his sound card, not his keyboard; if so, and that has happened to me, the easiest thing to do is to use USB headphones which use their own soundcard instead of the system's and thus, being able to listen, go to the System Tray > Sounds and unmute it.

BTW, someone in this list told us not long ago about a program called Stascom that prevents that from happening.

Best,

Humbert

I have a friend who is in a rehab center. He accidentally muted his
keyboard. In Jaws 2019, is there a way to unmute his machine with
either a key stroke or restarting the machine? Thanks.

Hi Faraz,

The previous might not do what you wanted, but try these steps:
1.  Settings center, Insert + 6, on the number row above the main keyboard.
2. Control + Shift+ D, for (default all applications)
3. Down Arrow to, Speech Verboscity, right arrow to open.
4. Down arrow to, configure speech verboscity, right arrow to open.
5. Down arrow to your verboscity level, Beginner..., and press the spacebar to open.  Note; Do not press enter here, if youpress enter it will close the Settings Center.
6. In the list of options the 1st one is, Items to Be Spoken List box Announce Position and Count when navigating in lists, press the spacebar to uncheck this item.
7. Tab to, Okay, press the spacebar, again tab to, Okay, press enter to save your change and close the Settings Center.
Hope I got it right this time!  LOL

hello friends,

I have installed jaws 2019 and feeling irritating as jaws reads list
itams on everything. for example, if i navigate on desktop it is saying
this pc 1 of 12, fire fox 2 of 12...etc. it is fine if jaws announces on
desktop but it is keep saying list itams on everything like i use to
play chess and on chess board it is behaving like same. i want to know
if their is any way to stop jaws reading list itams ?

With best regards,
Faraz q.

Turn off Grouping of Messages

By default, Outlook is set to display messages in groups such as today, yesterday, last week, etc. You may wish to turn off this option to make the message list easier to navigate.

To do this, press the following keys after starting Outlook:

Alt+V=view A/B.

so, alt+v a/b

Then, arrow down to Show in Groups and make sure it is unchecked. If it is checked, just press Enter to uncheck it and return to the message list.

Hey Gang,

I’m running windows 10, MS 2010, and jaws 2019.

All my emails are in alphabetical order.

How do I make the emails come in on the day, like the order that they come in? All the Wednesday are together.

I hope I said this right.

Thanks for any help.

Patti
