Final message to the group
David Ferrin
The time has come to shut this list down. I thank the best team
anybody could ever have for giving me their help over the years.
I feel bad for those of you who need this resource, the fact is if
it weren’t for you this thing would have gone away quite some time ago.
I am tired of all the nasty and rude emails I have received
privately, I could go on but there is no point in doing that at all.
BTW this
email account is disabled so after this message goes out it is finished as well.
For the final time, good by. David Ferrin Marriage is the process of finding out what kind of man your wife would have preferred. |

Re: Syntax for shell command to pin apps to the desktop
JM Casey
I don't think there is a simple run command that will let you accomplish this. Mike gave you the way that, I suppose, most users would rather utilise. If you just like commands vs menus as much as I do though, or if for instance you were a network administrator, you might find this interesting, or useful. It can be accomplished with either a powershell script or simple small programmes.

Howdy Jim,
Here you go:
1. Go to your desktop and make sure
nothing is selected. To do this: press CONTROL plus SPACE, then JAWS (or other
screen reader) should say, “Not Selected.”
If you need to, hit CTRL+SPACE again. 2. Press Applications/Menu Key or SHIFT plus F10, and Arrow down to the New Submenu, then press ENTER. 3. ARROW down to Shortcut then press ENTER. 4. When it asks you to type the location of the shortcut, type: %windir%\explorer.exe shell:Appsfolder 5. TAB to the Next button then press ENTER. 6. When it asks for a name for the shortcut, press the DELETE key then type: AppsFolder 7. TAB to the Finish button, then press ENTER. 8. Now, on your desktop, you will have a shortcut that reads: AppsFolder 9. If you press ENTER on this shortcut, a special Windows system folder will open containing all of your apps. 10. Now, create any shortcut for an app as follows: 11. Press ENTER on the AppsFolder icon. 12. Use First-letter Navigation to find and select the app for which you want the shortcut on your desktop. 13. ARROW down to Create Shortcut, then press ENTER. 14. When it tells you that a shortcut can’t be created here, and it asks if you want a shortcut on the desktop, press ENTER on Yes. 15. That’s it. Now you will have a shortcut for your desired app on the desktop, along with the AppsFolder shortcut, which you can use later when you need to create another desktop shortcut. Take care. Mike. Good day. At the beginning of this year, I reported to The Sparrow and to you a problem with the Outlook Calendar in 2010 and 2016 versions where the incorrect number of appointments for a specific day was not being reported correctly.
Please note that some of you replied that you were using those versions without issue… so the mystery deepen.
Long story made short - the case has been closed. I have been told that it is a Microsoft issue and update to either Outlook 2019 or Office365 to eliminate the issue.

It would be certainly fun to access these, but Jaws isn’t being cooperative, or I need to use different keystrokes.
I’m going to see hif I can find anything on Google about this with the Toshiba I have. It isn’t the newest computer on the block, but certainly not an old one either. I got it in 2015 or 2016.

This is the way it works for me. If you want to add an emoji to a blank message or document, press the spacebar before you open the emoji panel. 😊 There was a space to the left of the emoji.) Or, type a sentence.👏 When you find an emoji you like, press enter. Press escape and you will be back in your message or document. In Outlook, you can press either windows key semicolon or windows key period to get to the emoji panel. In my Word 2010, the Windows key semicolon is used by JAWS for something else. If JAWS says that the panel is closed, press an arrow key. Arrow up or down to view the emoji within that category. Or tab till you hear the name of a new category then right arrow to arrow through the categories. Press enter to choose a category. Tab until you hear the number of items in the group, which means you can now arrow up, down, sideways through the emoji for that group. Press enter on one you like, and press escape. I also use Gmail on the web, not through Outlook. The emoji panel works as above there, except that after I’ve pressed escape to leave the emoji panel, I have to shift tab and then tab back to the message, where JAWS then says, contains text, and the text and emoji are there. You are correct, and very happy to tell you that windowskey semi-colon indeed brings up Emojis you can choose from, but Jaws does not speak anything, unless you input a character first, then you can use Jawskey and arrow to hear the choices. Simply arrowing through what you have inserted will not read anything.

Re: Reading and editing comments in Excel
Justin Williams
Alt r c will get you into the comment field, then you type your comments, and hit escape.
You can tab to the post button and hit enter, but jaws wouldn't tell me where the post button is, so pressing escape worked.
If you want to edit a comment, write your edit in notepad, or word, copy it, then delete the comment in excel and add your edit.
I can't think of another way to do it because JAWS won't read the comment in excel.
Shift alt apostrophe will read the comment with the associated cell.
Shift control apostrophe will list comments on the sheet.

Dear nice Rebecca It is not consistent. Whether is a jaws issue or Microsoft I do not know. Bella the cat will not tell me. 😙 It took me 3 tries to add this emoji. Go figure.

Otherwise, JAWS doesn’t see or read the information in the edit box. It sounds more complicated than it is. Most of us got there. The problem is adding one in the email. Does not work with jaws or issue with adding emoji.

Hello; I'm using latest jaws, outlook 2016, here's what I figured out.
first create new message, ctrl+n=new, or, you could do a reply, ctrl+r=reply, in the body of the message, do the following,
1, Windows-key+semi colon,
2, Windows-key+apostraphy, you now should hear; Emoji panel is opened,
3, you need to right arrow to find the group of Emoji's,
4, enter on the group you want, now use the tab key, then arrow you should find the list of Emoji's. hope this helps a little.

Hi Judy, I have the same thing as you do and putting emoji on an email use to work fine. But today as I try it I have not been able to make it work. Not sure what has changed. Mr. Ed

Judy, I’m curious, what version of Jaws are you running?
I’m using the latest one and It’s speaking out the Emoji's just fine.
Is it possible you’re using something other than HTML to compose your messages?

Hello, Rebecca and All,
You are correct, and very happy to tell you that windowskey semi-colon indeed brings up Emojis you can choose from, but Jaws does not speak anything, unless you input a character first, then you can use Jawskey and arrow to hear the choices. Simply arrowing through what you have inserted will not read anything.
Again, I am using Outlook 10 with Windows 10.
Thank you all for leading me to try other things. Right off the bat, when Jaws was silent, I was assuming I had no Emojis available, but when I had some time, started experimenting a little.
Again Jaws will read nothing unless you insert something, then you can use the jaws plus arrow keys to hear your selections you made.

Reading and editing comments in Excel
Van Lant, Robin
I’m doing a project for my manager where I need to add and edit comments to cells in Excel. I can open the comments, but JAWS isn’t reading the text in the comment box. I tried using some of the keystrokes for comments I had written down for Word, but that doesn’t’ seem to work. Any success out there from others? I’m in Excel 2016 with the April release of JAWS 2019.
