Yes, having the same in Windows 10 as well – taking the focus away by pressing alt and tab usually does the trick.

WLM stands for windows live mail which is the replacement for windows mail found in windows vista. It was part of windows live essentials. HTH.

I believe you have to set your default email account to Thunderbird in Windows settings.
Did you also set Firefox as your default browser?

firefox email
I was on a web page and wanted to use the send mail link. It kept bringing up the win 10 mail app as opposed to Thunderbird. I had to copy the address and create a new message in Thunderbird.

The method I use is to hit Windows+r type c colon backslash and hit enter
Then, hit control+e and type my search and hit enter.
