Can you expound on “fairly accessible”? I’m not afraid of having to use a Jaws cursor or engage in some workarounds as long as I can access the content.

Hello,

The last time I looked at it, it was fairly accessible on the web and with iOS. I have two courses I bought during some of their sales but I have not looked at them in a while.

I believe there’s also an iOS app and while being able to access materials via the iPhone or iPad would be nice, I’m thinking more along PC useage. Still though, how about iOS accessibility?

Hi Rose,

The easiest way to repair your J2018.1808.10.400-enu-x64.ex version is really simple, but you need to have a copy of your same Jaws version executable / installer saved to do so.  If you have a copy of the installer somewhere accessible, like in your Documents folder, highlight the installer, press enter, and press enter on the, Run, button.  The installer will see that you already have this version installed, so it'll open in, Repair mode.  This is what you'll hear:
JAWS Repair
Welcome to the JAWS Repair. Press Enter to begin.
Repair Button
Press enter on the, Repair button, and away you go!  Now just follow the prompts.

I fixed the problems, now I can see the weather, and the number of messages in my Outlook inbox again but, the rub is, years ago, in the 1990s anyway there was a built in repair Jaws in the Jaws menu if you got there with Windows explorer, Windows 95, 98, even XP I think.  So it was easy to select repair and it happened without losing settings, without having to find the version being repaired and it took just a few minutes.

Yesterday, the only course of action especially if you don’t remember all the numbers of the version, there are too many for my head, 808… I ended up having to uninstall, then no speech, loaded NVDA, which I am not really familiar with more than a few things, and especially not on the internet, navigate to the FS site, download and reinstall and I had both Jaws and NVDA talking at the same time, tried to get NVDA to shut down but it was not having any of that, ended up having to restart the computer four times before the speech was right and in all the job that should have taken no more than 5-10 minutes took me 45 minutes and twice thinking the computer would never work again.  I realize one can type from the run command, but if it is a long string of numbers, or an URL that goes on forever and ever, not happening for me.  There should be a better way to effect a repair.

I don’t care much for Windows Explorer, in 10, it just isn’t the same as it was in previous versions, finding things is more difficult and I have used Windows 10 for two of its three years.

Problems fixed headache mostly gone, and computer working as it should so all ended well but 45 minutes to fix it when it was just one program causing the problem is annoying.

Hi All,

Like the subject line says, download links + what's new is below.

32 Bit:

64 Bit:

Enhancements in JAWS 2018.1808.10 (August 2018)

The following is a list of improvements made in JAWS 2018 between the July 2018 update and the August 2018 update.

Skype

Skype now offers three options on Windows 10.

1. You can continue using Skype Classic which is version 7 and works very well with JAWS. Note that Skype Classic is expected to be retired at some point
not yet known.
2. You can download and install the new Desktop version 8, which is now supported in this latest JAWS 2018 August update. See details below.
3. You can install the Universal App from the Microsoft Store. However, this is the least accessible at this time and we recommend you install Skype 7
or 8 for the best support.

For users moving to Skype 8, please be certain to download the version referred to as "Skype for Windows" which works well on Windows 10. Note that the
Universal App we are not recommending is referred to as "Skype for Windows 10".

For those using Skype version 8, we have added some additional keystrokes to help with navigation since these options are not offered in Skype. These commands
are:

• Move to the chat entry field: CTRL+INSERT+E
• Move to the chat history list: CTRL+INSERT+Y
• Move to the conversations list: CTRL+INSERT+N

You can also use the JAWS command INSERT+W while focused on Skype for a list of most of the keyboard commands you would want to know when using Skype.
For a full list from Microsoft, please visit the
Skype Hotkeys Web Page.

Tip: You can assign a keystroke such as ALT+CTRL+S to the Skype icon on the Desktop to quickly open Skype to answer an incoming call. If you are in another
application and you receive an incoming call alert, you can press your shortcut keystroke to open Skype, press INSERT+UP ARROW or INSERT+TAB to read the
caller information, and then press CTRL+SHIFT+P or use TAB to choose Answer or Decline.

Other Changes
• Resolved an issue in Excel from Office 365 where JAWS was not correctly reading the contents of cells after pressing F2 to edit.
• If Contracted Braille Input is enabled, resolved an issue where various JAWS and Windows commands were not working as expected when performed from a
braille display such as the Focus Blue.
• Resolved a reported issue with the text of links in the JAWS Virtual Viewer not being shown on the braille display if status cells were turned off.
• Addressed a reported issue where the Amazon Kindle app would stop working when attempting to read tables in certain books.
• When configuring the High, Medium, or Low web verbosity levels in Settings Center, the start and end announcements for regions can now be turned off
or on in Edge.
• Addressed visual tracking issues with JAWS and Fusion when navigating web pages in Firefox 60 and later using the ARROW keys and Navigation Quick Keys.
• A customer reported that JAWS would unexpectedly stop speaking while navigating a particular document in Word. This is now fixed.
• When using the INSERT+SHIFT+R or WINDOWS+SEMICOLON commands in word to list revisions or display revisions in the Virtual Viewer, if the document contains
a lot of revisions, JAWS now plays a sound every few seconds as the list is being built. After 30 seconds, if all revisions have not yet been found, JAWS
plays a different tone, and only the revisions found up to that point are displayed.
• Resolved an issue where JAWS could sometimes close unexpectedly while reading an Outlook message using Say All.
• JAWS now includes a Turkish language braille table which can be selected in the Computer Braille Tables dialog box in Settings Center.
• Corrected the pronunciation of some symbols in the French version of JAWS.

Take care.  Mike.  Go Dodgers!

Re: Comcast Email Inquiry

I am still using OE and didn't even mess with setting up the Imap settings. Here are the settings for OE with Comcast as a pop3. These are their new settings which must be set up by September.

These may work with whatever e-mail program you are using as well. I think I may still have the e-mail from them with different settings for different e-mail clients. I will check. Below are the OE settings for a pop3.

Configure Outlook Express Settings for Comcast Email

If you use Outlook Express to access your Xfinity Connect email account, you’ll want to make sure your settings are configured correctly. We’ll show you how.

1.Open Outlook Express.
2.Click the Tools menu, and select Accounts… ?To configure your Outlook Express client, go to step #3.
?To reconfigure your Outlook Express client, select your account from the menu on the left, then click Properties and skip to step #12.

3.Click Add, and then click Mail…
4.Enter your name in the Display name field, and click Next.
5.Enter your full email address in the Email address field, and click Next.
6.For My incoming mail server is a ______ server, select POP3 in the drop-down menu.
7.Enter mail.comcast.net in the Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server field. Enter smtp.comcast.net in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server field.
8.Click Next.
9.Enter your Xfinity username in the Account Name field. (Type your Xfinity username as seen on the left side of the @ symbol in your email address. For example, if your email address is johndoe@..., type in johndoe.) In the Password field, enter your password. Check the Remember Password box if you don't want to enter your password every time you access your email. Click Next.
The Internet mail logon screen shows fields for the account name and password and buttons at the bottom for back, next and cancel

10.Click Finish.
11.Highlight mail.comcast.net under Account, and click Properties.
12.Click the Advanced tab.
13.Under Outgoing Mail (SMTP), check the box next to This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
14.Enter 465 in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) field.
15.Under Incoming mail (POP3), check the box next to This server requires a secure connection (SSL). The port will change to 995.
The Advanced tab shows 465 selected for outgoing mail and 995 selected for incoming mail

16.Click the Servers tab, and check the box next to My server requires authentication.
The servers tab depicts pop three selected as the incoming mail server and a checkmark in the box next to my server requires authentication

17.Click OK.
As an additional step, third party email clients are often configured to delete messages from the server. This will prevent additional devices from receiving your Comcast email. To use your Comcast email account on multiple devices, you will need to ensure that email messages are not deleted. To configure your Outlook Express client to not delete messages from the server: 1.Click the Tools menu, and select Account.
2.Select your account from the menu on the left, then click Properties.
3.Click the Advanced tab.
4.Check the box next to Leave a copy of messages on server.
The servers tab depicts pop three selected as the incoming mail server and a checkmark in the box next to my server requires authentication

5.Click OK.
Congratulations! You're done configuring your Outlook Express client to send and receive Comcast email.

I'm trying to get Comcast set up as an IMAP account, and follow their instructions, but it says the server has unexpectedly terminated my connection...
It does that when downloading folders for the first time.

I agree with you completely. I am usually one who wants the latest of
everything but not so with WLM. I love it and don't need Microsoft to
support it in any way. I am using ComCast email as a pop3 account and it
works great.

I use Windows Live Mail, as well. But I learned recently that microsoft is
not giving any more support to it, and am having a few minor inconveniences.
I tried using Windows mail, and found it to be too confusing. I like things
simple, or at least as much as is possible. Thanks.

Aviya & JAWS

Annette Carr

Hi All,

Does anyone have experience with using an Aviya phone system with JAWS 2018?  I do not know which version of Aviya they are moving to use in our work environment, so if you have feedback can you include which version of Aviya and JAWS you are using and if you are working on a Windows 7 or 10 platform?

Thanks,

Annette

Tema: [jaws-users] Zoom platform users needed

Hello- I am being invited to an interactive session next week that uses the Zoom platform.  I am still using Windows 7 and JAWS 15 and wonder if there are successful Zoom users that can direct me to a tutorial or give some tips. I opened it on my computer and with the JAWS key on I can read some log in text but when I go back to the PC cursor it is silent. Help appreciated.
