Looking for a Jaws Friendly RAM Memory Monitor

Victor Gouveia

Hi Folks,

Certain problems with my system are forcing me to look for a RAM memory monitor that gives alerts when RAM usage reaches more than a certain percentage, or if it reaches a high or something like that.

Does anyone know of such a monster?

It must be Jaws Friendly, or, at the very least, able to read with a Jaws Cursor, but I would like it to give me a notification when RAM usage reaches a certain amount or limit.

If anyone knows of such a thing, I would greatly be interested.

Victor

Hi All,

64 Bit:

Enhancements in JAWS 2018.1808.10 (August 2018)

The following is a list of improvements made in JAWS 2018 between the July 2018 update and the August 2018 update.

Skype

Skype now offers three options on Windows 10.

1. You can continue using Skype Classic which is version 7 and works very well with JAWS. Note that Skype Classic is expected to be retired at some point
not yet known.
2. You can download and install the new Desktop version 8, which is now supported in this latest JAWS 2018 August update. See details below.
3. You can install the Universal App from the Microsoft Store. However, this is the least accessible at this time and we recommend you install Skype 7
or 8 for the best support.

For users moving to Skype 8, please be certain to download the version referred to as "Skype for Windows" which works well on Windows 10. Note that the
Universal App we are not recommending is referred to as "Skype for Windows 10".

For those using Skype version 8, we have added some additional keystrokes to help with navigation since these options are not offered in Skype. These commands
are:

• Move to the chat entry field: CTRL+INSERT+E
• Move to the chat history list: CTRL+INSERT+Y
• Move to the conversations list: CTRL+INSERT+N

You can also use the JAWS command INSERT+W while focused on Skype for a list of most of the keyboard commands you would want to know when using Skype.
For a full list from Microsoft, please visit the
Skype Hotkeys Web Page.

Tip: You can assign a keystroke such as ALT+CTRL+S to the Skype icon on the Desktop to quickly open Skype to answer an incoming call. If you are in another
application and you receive an incoming call alert, you can press your shortcut keystroke to open Skype, press INSERT+UP ARROW or INSERT+TAB to read the
caller information, and then press CTRL+SHIFT+P or use TAB to choose Answer or Decline.

Other Changes
• Resolved an issue in Excel from Office 365 where JAWS was not correctly reading the contents of cells after pressing F2 to edit.
• If Contracted Braille Input is enabled, resolved an issue where various JAWS and Windows commands were not working as expected when performed from a
braille display such as the Focus Blue.
• Resolved a reported issue with the text of links in the JAWS Virtual Viewer not being shown on the braille display if status cells were turned off.
• Addressed a reported issue where the Amazon Kindle app would stop working when attempting to read tables in certain books.
• When configuring the High, Medium, or Low web verbosity levels in Settings Center, the start and end announcements for regions can now be turned off
or on in Edge.
• Addressed visual tracking issues with JAWS and Fusion when navigating web pages in Firefox 60 and later using the ARROW keys and Navigation Quick Keys.
• A customer reported that JAWS would unexpectedly stop speaking while navigating a particular document in Word. This is now fixed.
• When using the INSERT+SHIFT+R or WINDOWS+SEMICOLON commands in word to list revisions or display revisions in the Virtual Viewer, if the document contains
a lot of revisions, JAWS now plays a sound every few seconds as the list is being built. After 30 seconds, if all revisions have not yet been found, JAWS
plays a different tone, and only the revisions found up to that point are displayed.
• Resolved an issue where JAWS could sometimes close unexpectedly while reading an Outlook message using Say All.
• JAWS now includes a Turkish language braille table which can be selected in the Computer Braille Tables dialog box in Settings Center.
• Corrected the pronunciation of some symbols in the French version of JAWS.

How come Research mode still doesn't have the NFL like it did when it first started?!

Hello to all.
Why doesn't or when is Freedom going to fix the research mode to reinstall the NFL into the research feature of JAWS?
Many Thanks.

a skype question

Panagiotis Antonopoulos

Hi all,

Since updating to the latest jaws update, wiiiith which I have no problems at all, I have been faced with a slightly new skype inconvenience. I am having skype v8.28. The new shortcut for conversation, as indicated I jaws’s What’s new, insrt-contrl-n, works well, but I find it rather inconvenient on my keybord. When I use the old keystroke alt-1, I receive the message “err unknown script call to: sayachatline.”

Is this what it should be after the update, and I just have to use the new keystroke which works fine for me, or has there been something more complex? If it requires serious technical adaptation, I’d rather forget it.

T              ha           nk you for any help, Takis

Re: New JAWS2018.1808.10.400 Build Update Download Links, + What's New in this Release

Lucky you!  Mine does not work regardless of how I put in the zip, several close to me, or the city name, it says results but nothing appears.  This happened in one of the 17 versions also and reinstalling did not fix it.  Just my luck since I used the option daily.

problem with Jaws and The LG TONE ULTRA (HBS-820) is a lightweight wireless headset that uses

John R Vaughn

List,

The LG TONE ULTRA (HBS-820) is a lightweight wireless headset.  It works very well with my IPhone 8 plus  but not with Jaws on the computer.

I am running latest windows 10 and latest jaws.  I have 8 mgs of ram and the I5 intel processor.

The issue,

When I pair the headset  with my computer and jaws using eloquence, no problem.  But the first time I bring up a list, Jaws just starts talking incoherently.

I remember that in settings, there is a setting for the synthesizer delay.  Wondering if this might be the problem?  I have checked for latest drivers.

I have not tried changing the settings if this might be barking up the wrong tree.

Thanks for any help or perspectives.

John

Re: ripping an audio cd

JM Casey <crystallogic@...>

Hey Sandy.

Ok, I don’t know how your computer is set up or what oS you are using, but it should work something like this.

Put CD in drive.

There are a few ways to navigate to the drive using file explorer, but in my view the quickest and best is to type windows key + r, to open the run box, and type in your CD drive letter followed by a : (colon) character. So for example, mine is F:, so I would type

Windows + r.

Then “f:” without the quotes.

A window should open showing you the files and folders on that cd. Find the one(s) you want, using arrow keys, search box, or whatever. With your cursor on the file, type ctrl-c.

It doesn’t really matter when you do this particualr step, but you’ll need to also have a window open with the folder you want to place/copy the files into. So open your documents, or wherever you want the file to go. You can use that run command to do that too, if you want.

Now, after you pressed ctrl-c, alt-tab over to that window that is the destination you want the files to be placed in.

Hit ctrl-v. This pastes whatever you copied from the other window, into the current one.

Note that you can select multiple files at a time using shift + arrow keys as well.

Hope this helps a little bit.

No, ripping a CD is taking the audio data (still digital) and transferring it to a PC-readable format like wav or mp3, at which point you can do whatever you want with it using your computer.

Text files and documents exist on your CD like they would a floppy disk. This is not an audio CD, but a data CD. All you have to do is put it in your drive and copy the files, using File Explorer. No ripping involved.

Sandy

Here are instructions for using windows media player to rip a cd

1, place cd into drive

Music should start to play, if windows media is your default player.

if not open media player

the first selection should be music, arrow down until you hear the name of the cd

at the name of the cd press tab twice

all of the tracks of the cd are listed and view each one by arrowing up and down

check each one that you want to rip

by default all tracks are checked

5, press ctrl+3, and tab until the rip button is reached

enter on the rip button.

Tema: [jaws-users] Zoom platform users needed

Hello- I am being invited to an interactive session next week that uses the Zoom platform.  I am still using Windows 7 and JAWS 15 and wonder if there are successful Zoom users that can direct me to a tutorial or give some tips. I opened it on my computer and with the JAWS key on I can read some log in text but when I go back to the PC cursor it is silent. Help appreciated.

Hi All,

Does anyone have experience with using an Aviya phone system with JAWS 2018?  I do not know which version of Aviya they are moving to use in our work environment, so if you have feedback can you include which version of Aviya and JAWS you are using and if you are working on a Windows 7 or 10 platform?

Thanks,

Annette

I'm trying to get Comcast set up as an IMAP account, and follow their
instructions, but it says the server has unexpectedly terminated my
connection...
It does that when downloading folders for the first time.

I agree with you completely. I am usually one who wants the latest of
everything but not so with WLM. I love it and don't need Microsoft to
support it in any way. I am using ComCast email as a pop3 account and it
works great.

I use Windows Live Mail, as well. But I learned recently that microsoft is
not giving any more support to it, and am having a few minor inconveniences.
I tried using Windows mail, and found it to be too confusing. I like things
simple, or at least as much as is possible. Thanks.

Afternoon all.

Is there anyone on the list that could provide me with the instructions for
navigating the Comcast Email aspect with JAWS 2018? I have Windows 10 on a
Dell
laptop.
Thanks.
