Hello, everyone.

I used to be able to read the various fields in an open Outlook 2016 e-mail message using the alt key, followed by the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc..

This now no longer works.

Whenever I hit these key combinations, I get an “unavailable” message.

Does anyone know if something has changed to no longer make this possible, and is there a work-around?

I also find shif-tabbing through the various fields to be very unreliable.

I’m using Windows 10, Office 365, and the latest build of Jaws 2019 here.

Thank you!

Here are the instructions I have saved.  I modified them to fit what works here, so hopefully, they will help others.

Tom Behler

Instructions for restoring fields in an e-mail message if they disappear

If e-mail message fields disappear, and are not able to be accessed with the alt 1, 2, 3 commands, etc., you must turn off features coming soon.

To do this, put focus on your in-box, and then hit the alt key to get to the home menu.

Then, arrow left once or twice, and you should get to the check box to turn this function on or off.

If it says “turn features coming soon off”, you know it’s on.  Just un-check the box, and you should be ok.

Note:  You will have to re-start Outlook for the change to take effect.

Re: Email password

Fred,
If, you use google it can be a problem, you have to turn on less secure app
or you won't be able to receive or send mail.
And the password prompt will always come on, with no success.
Go to google.com/myaccount and log in, look in the security link and maybe
your wife can help you turn on less secure app.
For some reason jaws is not reading this section well, I had to call MSA and
the tech knew exactly, what was going on with turning on less secure app.
Since you are on that page, you can check out that your account is correct,
also you can change your password there.
Your google password is not the same as your internet password from your
provider.

Hi.

Of course it is possible, but -- you'd have to know your password to begin
with in order to type it in.
If you don't know your password, what you can do about it would depend on
your e-mail provider.
If you use your ISP's e-mail service, they probably will be able to give it
to you if you supply them with all your correct information (they usually
ask for your full name, address, phone number, or any other information you
might have associated with the account).
If you use gmail, I don't really know what recovery options they have, but
if you use an Android phone they probably associate it with your Google
account and will send you a code to verify on your phone.

I don't really know what you are asking though; the part about a blind
person typing in the password confused me.

If you are running the latest jaws2019 you can download them from the vocalizer install/uninstall dialog box. Though at the moment I'm not sure where that is located at in jaws. I would like to see jaws that is... the english version of jaws support Japanese braille input and output through braille displays for people studying Japanese as a second language in school.

Objet : [jaws-users] Portable Version of JAWS, How To

Hi Teri,

I found this information buried in my notes and hope the steps still work:

The following briefly describes how to first download and install the thumb drive application, second, download the video intercept driver, and third,
start

the thumb drive application on another computer.

Application Download and Install

1. Plug your USB thumb drive into your computer's USB port.

2. Select the appropriate thumb drive download link (32-bit or 64-bit) that appears at the end of this procedure.

3. When the dialog box opens, choose Save, and select a location on your thumb drive where you can easily find the downloaded executable file.

4. Run the downloaded executable file and extract the files to your thumb drive.

5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 if you are installing both products.

Video Intercept Download

1. Select the appropriate video intercept link (32-bit or 64-bit) that appears at the end of this procedure.

2. When the dialog box opens, choose Save and save the file to the root of your thumb drive. (If needed, this file will let you install the video intercept

driver on any computer that does not already have it installed.)

JAWS/MAGic 32-bit Video Intercept (32.8 MB - FTP download)

JAWS/MAGic 32-bit Video Intercept (32.8 MB - HTTP download)

JAWS/MAGic 64-bit Video Intercept (34.4 MB - FTP download)

JAWS/MAGic 64-bit Video Intercept (34.4 MB - HTTP download)

Start Thumb Drive Application

1. Unplug the USB thumb drive and plug it into a different computer. Windows automatically displays a dialog box asking what action you want to take next.

Select "Start JAWS" or "Start MAGic" and then press ENTER.

If this dialog does not appear, press WINDOWS Key+R, type "X:\JAWS100" or "X:\MAGic110" (where X is the drive letter assigned to your thumb drive) and

press ENTER.

Note: If the video intercept has not been installed on the computer, choose the Cancel button when the Autorun dialog box displays. Next, press WINDOWS

Key+R, type "X:\FSVideoIntercept.exe" where X is the drive letter assigned to your thumb drive), and press ENTER. This installs the necessary JAWS and

MAGic video components on the computer. You must have administrative privileges to install these files.

2. You can now use JAWS or MAGic just as if it were installed on the computer's hard disk drive. Any settings changes that you make are saved on the USB

thumb drive so that you can use them next time. When you are finished working on the computer, quit JAWS or MAGic and remove the drive from the USB slot.

Take care, Mike.

I think it's alt-d, as in "do not save". There is a reason behind it being this keystroke and not ctrl-n as you'd expect, and it made sense to me at one time -- probably some kind of conflict.

I have the latest versions of Firefox and JAWS. How do I access Firefox
alerts such as whether to open or save a file, saving a password, etc.?
Firefox speaks these items, but I can’t remember how to access them. With
Internet Explorer, the key combination is Alt+n. Thanks for any help.

Re: What version of Firefox to use ESR or latest?

I'm quite behind with e-mail and apologize to the list, but I was just asked if I want to install Firefox 60.5 from Firefox 60.2 on my 64 bit Windows 7 machine. I'm running JAWS 2018 and have a SMA for 2019. I may remember seeing a post here saying that the final release of J2018 had improvements for Firefox, but will have to check which 2018 version I have.

I think I heard that Firefox is up to something like 65 for the regular version. Could some kind soul please tell me if J2018 and 2019 are working better with later versions of Firefox?

My Win 7 machine and I thank you.

right, its up to you. but i use the e s r version because you never know if
jaws will work every 6 weeks when the customor version is updated.
you still get all the security updates as they are released for 12 months
from
the date it was released. just like the customer version.

well work better. But it’s totally up to you.

Could you please share the instructions with the list?  I personally suspect that it updated to 2019 that is my own guess for what it is worth.  I base that on 365 updates automatically if I remember correctly.

Thank you!

I looked thru my notes, and only found 1 executable for portable Jaws and

Hi Teri,

I found this information buried in my notes and hope the steps still work:

The following briefly describes how to first download and install the thumb
drive application, second, download the video intercept driver, and third,
start

the thumb drive application on another computer.

Application Download and Install

1. Plug your USB thumb drive into your computer's USB port.

2. Select the appropriate thumb drive download link (32-bit or 64-bit) that
appears at the end of this procedure.

3. When the dialog box opens, choose Save, and select a location on your
thumb drive where you can easily find the downloaded executable file.

4. Run the downloaded executable file and extract the files to your thumb
drive.

5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 if you are installing both products.

Video Intercept Download

1. Select the appropriate video intercept link (32-bit or 64-bit) that
appears at the end of this procedure.

2. When the dialog box opens, choose Save and save the file to the root of
your thumb drive. (If needed, this file will let you install the video
intercept

driver on any computer that does not already have it installed.)

JAWS/MAGic 32-bit Video Intercept (32.8 MB - FTP download)

JAWS/MAGic 32-bit Video Intercept (32.8 MB - HTTP download)

JAWS/MAGic 64-bit Video Intercept (34.4 MB - FTP download)

JAWS/MAGic 64-bit Video Intercept (34.4 MB - HTTP download)

Start Thumb Drive Application

1. Unplug the USB thumb drive and plug it into a different computer. Windows
automatically displays a dialog box asking what action you want to take
next.

Select "Start JAWS" or "Start MAGic" and then press ENTER.

If this dialog does not appear, press WINDOWS Key+R, type "X:\JAWS100" or
"X:\MAGic110" (where X is the drive letter assigned to your thumb drive) and

press ENTER.

Note: If the video intercept has not been installed on the computer, choose
the Cancel button when the Autorun dialog box displays. Next, press WINDOWS

Key+R, type "X:\FSVideoIntercept.exe" where X is the drive letter assigned
to your thumb drive), and press ENTER. This installs the necessary JAWS and

MAGic video components on the computer. You must have administrative
privileges to install these files.

2. You can now use JAWS or MAGic just as if it were installed on the
computer's hard disk drive. Any settings changes that you make are saved on
the USB

thumb drive so that you can use them next time. When you are finished
working on the computer, quit JAWS or MAGic and remove the drive from the
USB slot.

Take care, Mike.
