You’re right, of course. I don’t know how I missed it. So, I clicked on “More tools” and went to extensions, where I tabbed through a surprisingly long list. Interestingly, when I used the F6/tab method, only the ad blocker and Adobe extensions were listed, perhaps because those were the only two relevant to that website. Just a guess.

As always, Rebecca, thanks.

Your way brought nothing up like you described, but maybe I have no add-ons installed?  Smile.

When I open Chrome, I press alt to open the menu.  I can press the up or down arrows to reach  more tools submenu.

It’s between find and cut, if that helps, when arrowing up or down.  Press enter and extensions should be there, right after clear browsing data, I think it says.

Rebecca, I figured it out, but with a different method. For the record, I can’t find “More tools.”

Here’s what I did:

With Chrome open, press F6 to land on the address bar.

Tab until the extension/add-on I want comes up.

Arrow down through the choices and press enter on my selection.

Later, when moving around with alt-enter, I came across a related page where my selection was detailed.

Can you explain how to get to “More tools”?

Adrian, I don’t know if this is what you want, but extensions is listed in the

More tools

Category.

Just press alt and arrow up or down.  Press enter or right arrow on more tools, then arrow down to extensions and press enter.

I’ve not done anything with this, so perhaps others will advise.  Smile.

JAWS not announcing turning on or off formatting

Van Lant, Robin

Hi,

Since moving to JAWS, I have noticed that if I select text and change formatting such as to make it bold, pressing Control B only says “on”, not “bold on”.  I thought this was a quirk of JAWS, but I’m listening to a tutorial on JAWS and hearing someone else change formatting and it’s saying ”bold on”.  Any idea how I can enable this?

Hey jerry.

Your message cut off after the colon, so I don’t know what question you were going to ask!

Windows is pretty good at this by now though. What’ll happen if something goes wrong (say the power goes out) is that the next time you try to copy everything it will ask which, if any, files or folders you want to replace in the destination. Hopefully nothing like that will happen though. I don’t know how much information you’ve got there but I’ve successfully copied hundreds of gigabytes at a time with a single copy pass.

Re: inserting bullets on word 2016

Van Lant, Robin

My favorite way to insert basic round filled bullets is to press Control Shift L.  You can do this at the start of your first line of bulleted test or anywhere on the line of text.  You can also type a few lines of text, then select all the lines you want to put in bullets and hit the Control Shift L.

Unless you have turned it off, typing an asterisk at the beginning of a line, followed by a space will automatically autocorrect into a filled round bullet.  Likewise, typing a hyphen at the beginning of a line followed by a space will make a bulleted list starting with hyphens.  In all cases, Word assumed you want the bulleted list to be indented.

Hi Mathew/Annette/all,

Instead of closing jaws, you might simply consider pressing jawskey-space and place your mode on “speech on demand”, this will probably silence jaws and will not be disturbing your teamviewer partner.

Hi all,
I am having jaws 2018 with Remote enabled.
But don't know how to set or what I need to set that I can try?
I am having win 7 on my home computer or I can have Win 10. I am supposing that Remote desktop is installed and nothing more is not necessary.
Should I set something in the router some port forwarding etc.?

Guide to the Taskbar on Windows 10, updated for April 2018 update

David Bailes

I've updated my guide to the Taskbar on Windows 10 for the April 2018 update (version 1803), and it's available here:
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Taskbar-10-Guide.html
As before, the guide covers the start menu, search, Cortana, the taskbar buttons, the notification area, and notifications. The changes are mostly minor, but the guide covers focus assist, and the new format of Cortana's notebook.
If you're still using Windows 10  version 1709, then a guide to the taskbar for that version is still available at:
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Taskbar-10-1709-Guide.html

This morning I can’t activate Amazon’s one-click button. I’ve tried with Chrome, Firefox and IE11. I’ve pressed the spacebar and enter key on the link, but no luck. In the case of chrome and IE11, I get a message saying something went wrong, but no explanation. I called amazon’s disability number, but the woman who answered didn’t understand the problem. I’ll try calling again in the hope someone with more screenreader familiarity answers, but meanwhile I’m hoping someone here has some ideas.

Subject: [jaws-users] Amazon one-click button

This morning I can’t activate Amazon’s one-click button. I’ve tried with Chrome, Firefox and IE11. I’ve pressed the spacebar and enter key on the link, but no luck. In the case of chrome and IE11, I get a message saying something went wrong, but no explanation. I called amazon’s disability number, but the woman who answered didn’t understand the problem. I’ll try calling again in the hope someone with more screenreader familiarity answers, but meanwhile I’m hoping someone here has some ideas.

Hi,

Just finished the equipment check list and so far as I can tell,   everything passed.  My only concern is that I am running windows 10 home in a vm on an imac so this could a bit consirn.  Other than that, the first fase went well.  Thanks all,

Matthew

Simpler to just use the JAWS layered command to mute speech temporarily. Insert+spacebar, then the letter s.

Hi Matthew,

Thus far, I have not run into any type of issues with TeamViewer.  I am able to do my part to let the other person into my computer.  Just be aware that the other user will hear JAWS on their computer as well.  If this is a problem for them, you will need to Alt+F4 to shutdown JAWS.

If there are any other features in TeamViewer such as conferencing or a chat feature, I have no idea about them.

HTH,

Annette

Afternoon all,

This is kind of ergent as I have a job interview and need to know if anyone has used teamviewer with jaws 2018.  I took a look and found that the login screen seem to work.  This is a phone interview for infosition and they require a system compatibility test.  Thanks.

Hi Mathew/Annette/all,

Instead of closing jaws, you might simply consider pressing jawskey-space and place your mode on “speech on demand”, this will probably silence jaws and will not be disturbing your teamviewer partner.
