Jaws and PDF issues

Hi folks. Can anybody answer this question?

Hi Chris,

I am back to work now and am finding I am having trouble with pdf files with headers and footers. I find that while I am using the down arrow and reading the document the cursor will get stuck on the footer and the document will skip a few pagesand I will loose my spot. Likewise with the header while arrowing upwards. Have you ever come across this?

Also do you know how Jaws reacts to secured pdf’s? I opened a secured document and Jaws would not read it?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric

Re: Jaws and PDF issues

I would suggest using a different PDF reader for the documents in question. The PDF reader in Chrome is working quite well for me.

Hi All,

Using JAWS 2018, IE 11 on a Windows 10 computer. If you have experience
with Word Press. Would you do me a favor and take a look at www.nfbofsc.org
and tell me how to remove the information under each heading? Such as
posted on December 6 by Steve Cook. I have seen other websites hosted on
Word Press that does not have this information. Thanks in advance!

Re: Website/WordPress Help

This doesn't automatically happen on my WordPress.com website, which makes me suspect the behavior is caused by a plugin. You might go to your dashboard, then navigate to the sidebar. On mine, there's a separate menu there called "Posts." I wonder if a plugin's name there could give you a clue about what is causing this unwanted information to appear.

I'm no expert at this, so you might want to wait until someone who is posts something more concrete.

Also, if you do insert + W and Insert + H, you will get useful keystrokes, and they are program specific, so if you do insert + H while in Word, you will get a different list than you would if you were in your eMail program.

Hello! I am new to this and not a good computer user, and certainly not proficient in jars. I am one of those on the border folks that have held out with magic screen magnifiers as long as I could. It’s been very interesting reading the thread is here. There’s a lot more that a program like Josh can do it then anyones’s generally taught. Is there a JJWS for dummies book that is reasonably priced? Is it in audio and braille format? I was fascinated by how some people on here use a whole series of keys at the same time to accomplish something and others just know how to create a shortcut for themselves. As someone who’s not really coordinated when it comes to any other keys in the alphabet keys on the computer keyboard, that sounds wonderful to have short cuts.

Is there a JJWS for dummies book and second does that teach you how to create shortcuts or is this something you have to have someone script for you. Like I said, I’m not techy. I finally feel comfortable using and iPhone and iPad.

Thanks!

Also, if you do insert + W and Insert + H, you will get useful keystrokes, and they are program specific, so if you do insert + H while in Word, you will get a different list than you would if you were in your eMail program.

The closest thing existing now is the free training material from Freedom Scientific.  There is also some rather expensive training material from Kathy Ann Murtha, http://blindtraining.com.

Thanks!

Subject: [jaws-users] Keystrokes for Closing and Restarting JAWS 2019?

Hi, Folks.  I seem to have lost the answer to the above subject line; was using Jaws 2018 when I asked the question:

How do you close and restart Jaws?  Sort of like a Jaws reboot.  I looked through the NBP cheat sheet for Jaws, and couldn't find it Thanks in advance.--Matthew Chao

Hi,

I think it’s the outlook ghost.

If you’re using outlook sometimes you’ll hear jaws short mumble once in a while.

Jorge,

There is no better symbol for the purpose we serve than the emblem every Marine earns: the Eagle, Globe and Anchor. The eagle represents the proud nation we defend. It stands at the ready with our coastlines in sight and the entire world within reach of its outstretched wings. The globe represents our worldwide presence. The anchor points both to the Marine Corps' naval heritage and its ability to access any coastline in the world. Together, the eagle, globe and anchor symbolize our commitment to defend our nation—in the air, on land and at sea.

There are times, especially when my internet isn’t working properly…no service at all, that JAWS just starts talking. Here is what I’ve had to do several times to get it working again:

Hit alt and tab several times

Hit the escapr key several times

Restart JAWS from key commands.

Anyone have any suggestions to prevent this from happening? As I said it usually only happens when Centruy Link is ducking up my service, hot days and rainey ones.

Windows 10 & JAWS 17

Thanks for any input anyone can offer

Aaao! That's your theme that is doing that most likely.

You could probably manually edit the CSS template, but let's start here... what theme are you using?

I'm no expert at this, so you might want to wait until someone who is posts something more concrete.

Hi All,

Using JAWS 2018, IE 11 on a Windows 10 computer. If you have experience with Word Press. Would you do me a favor and take a look at www.nfbofsc.org and tell me how to remove the information under each heading? Such as posted on December 6 by Steve Cook. I have seen other websites hosted on Word Press that does not have this information. Thanks in advance!

Anyone successfully inserted a debit card, credit card or bank account into the paypal wallet?  I had a  paypal ccount a long time ago when I had perfect sight and now the card has expired!

Also if I’m blind how can I insert the numbers into my account?

Paypal is accessible with jaws, I’ve bought stuff previously from Future Aids and other merchants.

I keep my card numbers on my computer and I copy and paste them into the fields.
One thing that people have trouble with is copying and pasting into fields like that.
The problem is when you select something like a specific set of numbers or a password, you need to keep holding down the shift key and left arrow to the last character, and then right arrow once to reselect it.
Often there is a space or two that inadvertently gets selected when you select things, and often sighted folk don't even notice this, but if you keep the shift key down while doing the steps above, you can successfully copy and paste into fields.
I don't know if this is the issue you are having, but hopefully it helps.

Hi Kevin,

Okay, this is running Widows 7, IE11 andJaws 16, but this should pretty much work the same no matter what browser or version of Jaws.  At least I would think so since we're dealing with the Pay Pal website.
1. Log-in into your Pay Pal account.
2. You'll get a screen wanting to know if you would like to use your mobile phone number for blah blah so, click on the not no link or something similar.
3. Find the link, Wallet, or My Wallet and press enter.
4. Navigate this page and you should find a link to make changes to a current credit / devit card or to add / remove.
Take care.  Go Rams!

Hi, as long as you have a working version of Jaws on your computer you won’t have to entrethe authorization number again. Also as long as it is still using the same cerial code, if not they should have sent you a new authorization number.

cannot install sql management studio 2017

Marvin Hunkin

Hi, I try to install sql management studio 2017.9.1 latest stable release, and it gets stuck at the visual studio 2015 kb 3 million 95 681 and then I get this error.

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

Button

RELEASE 17.9.1

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

Close Button

Setup Failed

A pending restart is blocking setup from completing. Please restart the computer and run setup again.

Click here for the log file.

And do multiple reboots. Even searched for vs 2015 in the registry  and deleted allinstances.

And still does not install. Got sql server 2017 64 bit express installed and visual studio community 2017 15.9.3 installed.  Windows 10 64 bit pro 1809 and latest updates and got jaws 2019 home user. So, is there a work around, and have tried googling, but no luck. This is stupid. I do have a package called total uinstaller which will totally remove all instances of visual studio and found it on github, a command line utlity.

If any one has run into this issue, how did they fix it.

This si frustrating.

Don’t have time to do a windows reset, windows 10 is working fine, only issue, and did read through the log, but cannot seem to see any thing jumping out at me.

Any ideas.

How to get this to work.

Frustrated.

Just want to import my databases and then have a look.

Any one had this issue.
