I also find that Jaws 2019does not always read well when I'm composing
Outlook e-mails and Word documents.

Sometimes, Jaws skips lines, or repeats the same line.

I filed a formal report to FS about this. They said they couldn't help me
directly, and asked me to call FS Tech Support for help.

I simply haven't gotten to call them yet, because I'm now totally involved

Re: help with number pronunciation

Matthew Horspool

Hi,

Yes this is a good suggestion and probably the answer. Other things to try:

1.       Also in Settings Centre/Text Processing/Number an Date Processing, have a play with the "Number Processing" setting. "Controlled by synthesizer" is usually fine. Failing that you could try "Full Numbers". "Single Digits" or "Pairs" will render results similar to what you are describing.

2.       Check how the number itself is written out. In the UK, an annoying precedent has emerged wherein groups of three digits are separated by a space rather than a comma, e.g. 10 000 instead of 10,000 or even 10000. If your numbers are written out in this way, JAWS has no chance.

That has made me think, though, that perhaps I should suggest to FS that the non-breaking space be considered a digit separator. Not that many people use that character, but we have to start somewhere. Others could also join me in making this suggestion if they wish: suggestions@...

JAWS 2019 saying 'blank' when there are words on the screen

Geno Stone

I am using: Jaws 19 With one of the Prime Voices. I have Windows ten latest
and use this Microsoft Outlook, complete package. That would be e-mail and
Word. I remember, just don't know what they did, That in Purchasing this
program, Microsoft Help desk, said there was a change that needed to be made
in Word to work with Jaws. I wish, I could remember, yet this Old Fart,
doesn't. So, why not a chat with and make sure you get the American, not
overseas, Microsoft help. Overseas, wants to get in and then right out. Yet
if you ask them they should be easily to go into word and make the
adjustment. I just know they went to the ribbons, just don't remember where.
Then, again got a lot of smart Fellers and gals here, so maybe..
As I don't have any of the issues you all are talking about either with Mail
or Word itself Gene/Geno Happy Holiday...

Chrome and jaws not displaying webpages

Christopher Reagan

Good morning

So I’m having an issue where google chrome is not displaying with jaws initially and in order for me to get to where I can display the page, I half to restart jaws.  This has been an ongoing issue that I thought was fixed with jaws 2019.  Can someone tell me what may be happening and what I half to do to keep this from happening in the future?  I only see blank when google chrome initially starts.  Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks and take care

Chris

Hi, I have had a similar issue at times with Jaws 2018. If I alt tab to
another program and then alt tab back to the document that normally fixes it
for me.

I haven't upgraded yet even though I am able. I just like others to find the
bugs first and hopefully get them fixed before I start using it.

At work however someone has already upgraded our Jaws to the latest version
but I haven't noticed this issue yet. I have only been using the new version
at work one day a week for the past couple of weeks.

And I am having the issues you describe with JAWS 2018. It is not happening as frequently lately, but maybe I'm just not in Word as much lately. For the person who said he unloads JAWS 2019 and reverts to using JAWS 2018, I suspect it's not the JAWS 2018 is better, but just that you unloaded JAWS and restarted JAWS. Unloading and relaunching JAWS 2018 will fix the issue for me when it occurs.

Sent by: jaws-users-list@groups.io

Hi,
Using jaws 18 through 2019 on latest windows 10, I’m trying to have jaws for example say ten thousand, instead of ten zeero zero.
Can someone help?
Thank you.

Re: JAWS 2019 saying 'blank' when there are words on the screen

Adrian Spratt

I agree that the problem also occurs with 2018 and that switching between 2018 and 2019 is simply a workaround. However, what makes 2019 worse is that in "say all," JAWS will periodically repeat all or parts of sentences and omit sentences at the beginnings of paragraphs. This is why I must use 2018 more than 2019.

It is pretty bad when our screen reader refuses to red the screen!
Except for the sound when a word is misspelled when using 2019, the prior
2018 performs much better with MS Word.
I have also reported to Vispero and urge every user of Jaws 2019 and Word to report this problem.

Sometimes, certainly not always, when I open a document or enter a new screen, JAWS says 'blank, blank, blank" as I arrow down. I cannot select the text on the screen. Both Narrator and NVDA will read the text, but until I unload/reload JAWS, nada. Is this a problem for anyone else? Is there a setting to change. It has happened with Firefox, with Research It, with Word. But only intermittently, and I do know how to work around it.
Is there a way to prevent this not very interesting event?

Good morning

So I’m having an issue where google chrome is not displaying with jaws initially and in order for me to get to where I can display the page, I half to restart jaws.  This has been an ongoing issue that I thought was fixed with jaws 2019.  Can someone tell me what may be happening and what I half to do to keep this from happening in the future?  I only see blank when google chrome initially starts.  Any help with this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks and take care

Chris
