Re: Filling out an envelope in word

Chris Chaffin

Hello,

I even had problems typing in addresses in Office 2013, so this is what I do.
I first bring up a new blank document.
I then type the name and address in my blank document.
Then do a select all to select the name and address you just typed.
Then do the keyboard shortcut to get to the envelope print dialog box.  Word will automatically put the selected name and address in the address box for your envelope, so all you have to do is to tab to print and hit the space bar.

So basically you are just typing the name and address in a blank document instead of the envelope dialog box.
Just do not forget to select the name and address or your envelope box will remain blank.

Hope this helps.

Chris

Here's what I do in this situation: It's not elegant, but it works for me.

When the web page opens I copy the whole page to the clipboard (with ctrl-a then ctrl-c). I then close the page, and blessed silence returns. I then view the clipboard text (with the layered keystroke Jaws-key + space followed by the letter c). The text that is shown in the Jaws virtual viewer has some HTML in it, but the text is there. I hope some one else finds this of some use.

Hi,

Yes – it is considered a "JAWS Message".

If you particularly wanted that message to speak in the "Advanced" verbosity level, go to Settings Centre/Speech Verbosity/Configure Verbosity Levels/Advanced ... and toggle JAWS Messages on. Note you may need to do this in the default file.

Leave Dropbox Folder, or suspend temporarily

Christopher-Mark Gilland <clgilland07@...>

Guys,

I'm not going to go into the specifics, as I don't know who's on this list and who isn't. The incredibly general version of the story is, I have a paid Dropbox account which I use both for personal and for work related things... more work.

I am on a particular mailing list which will be left unnamed, which shares a Dropbox folder for people to collaborate. Though not encouraged, it's not really that I know of, a set rule in stone that people shouldn't extract zip files directly to the same Dropbox directory, as when people do this, obviously then, it downloads a local extracted copy for everyone. Some of these zip files are quite large in nature. I should add that no, this is nothing illegal. It's not a file sharing type of setup for audio nhor software, so please don't make inaccurate assumptions. Anyway, one individual on the group who, again, will be left unnamed, has thought it would be super cute, to unzip the entire folder which now has equaled out to over nearly 80 gigs. I think the mod of the group is harshly now in the process of deleting things, as I just saw one file he removed, but just in case things don't get dealt with, how would I remove myself from the shared folder with JAWS 2019, and Windows 10 on the latest version of Dropbox? This is going to eat my hard disk to shreds at the rate we're going.

Re: Jaws 2019 strange behavior

Mr. Ed

That is because Jaws 19 has phonetic spelling. So when you are arrowing across a word and you stop arrowing Jaws will announce the letter then the phonetic of that letter. For example if you stop the cursor before the letter d, Jaws will say d then the phonetic of that letter which is delta. This is done so that say like a person like myself cannot hear very well. This helps me to be able to tell what letter jaws is saying if I have trouble hearing the letter. You can turn this feature off or increase the time it takes for jaws to announce the phonetic of that word. You can do this in the Jaws setting center.

When reading with the arrow keys in jaws 2019 jaws will say the last
letter and then say The alpha equivalent. For example, If I typed the

the word Leonard Jaws will say the letter D and then follow that with
the word Delta. This is to me strange behavior and I don’t know exactly
how to fix this.

Re: Likely bug in JAWS 2019

as for your issue with Internet Explorer,

I think that is a completely unrelated situation. what is happening in your case is, Internet explore is Aldo filling based on site that are in your history as you are typing. Firefox, and chrome both do the same thing. I agree it is incredibly annoying! Safari also does the same thing on my mac, but that's neither here nor there. i've yet, in any of these browsers found a way to completely shut off auto completion.

if you really insist for it not to speak while typing an address, you could always pressed insert plus space, followed by the S, as in Sierra, type the URL, then press in surplus space followed by the letter S again.

please forgive any random words, or typos in this message, I am using Siri dictation. I will be by my computer shortly.

If you encounter an edit combo field, an absolutely excellent example of
this is the run dialog, JAWS is reading what you type in full over and
over with each character interted into the field.

For example, let's say I wanted to go to the run dialog, and type
thunderbird. What I'd here is the following. Read the next bit of this

This did not happen in previous versions like JAWS 2018.

I've opened a ticket with Veserro but have gotten nowhere. NO one has

I've isolated the fact that this is definitely not a script acting up,

I admit that during the install, it told me it found JAWS 2018, and

should have over-ridden that, so, if it still is doing it even after

Mike,

Thank you for this. I recalled you posted these instructions a little while ago, and I meant to test them. For now, I’ll go with Vispero’s method, partly because I’m working with them on several issues and partly because it couldn’t be simpler: just change the name of the desktop JAWS icon.

For anyone who needs to know, you change the name by placing focus on the icon and pressing F2 to convert the icon into an edit field. What I did was keep “JAWS 2019” and added the word “shortcut.” Press enter to save the new name.

Then I went through the shortcut process. I hope it sticks. If not, I’ll turn to Mike’s method.

Hi Adrian,

I know this won't fix your Jaws start problem but, the steps below will help give you a consistent hot key / shortcut key for getting Jaws started when you need to getter going.

You can try assigning the shortcut keystroke from a different Jaws icon, and
I believe it will solve your disappearing keystroke problem.  I assign my
pin to Taskbar shortcut from this Jaws icon and never have to mess with it
after a Jaws build update.  Try the following:
1. Open the Start menu, navigate to the Programs folder and open it.
2. Use first letter navigation to the version of Jaws you want to assign the
shortcut keystroke to.  Press the letter, J, until you reach JAWS2018, for
example.
3. With the preferred version of JAWS highlighted Press enter or right arrow
to open, up or down arrow to, JAWS, and this is the icon that you want to
use for creating the shortcut keystroke.
4. So, with the JAWS icon highlighted press, Alt + Enter, to open the JAWS
properties, or press the applications key or Shift + F10 to open the context
menu, and press enter on properties.
5. Assign your keystroke, tab to, Apply, press the spacebar, tab to, Okay,
and press Enter.

Take care.  Mike.  Go Rams!
