In window weyes whenever I would hit control page down I would move to the next page in a document. Window eeyes would say page to page 3 etc. When I first install jaws 2018 a few weeks ago after resetting my PC it was doing that. Now it’s not. When I move to the next page either by the arrow keys or page down command Josh never indicate I am on a different page. Is there a verbosity setting that is preventing this from being read? I also have 2019 installed it is not doing it either. Thank you for the help

But with the traditional method you were actually purchasing a license to the current version of the program. With the subscription you are only purchasing the right to use the application for the time period to which you subscribe. You are not purchasing the application.

Just be aware that the developmental team for JAWS is looking in to streamlining  cursor operation.  It is still very early in the process, but the tutorials will probably change to some extent in the future.

Hi Alan,

Here you go, hope this is what you're looking for:

About JAWS Cursors
Navigating through Windows with JAWS is accomplished with cursors.
These cursors determine the focus of JAWS speech and are often directly
linked with Windows cursors.

The PC Cursor - Follows Keystrokes

This cursor is linked to the keyboard functions of Windows and applications.
This is the cursor that is used when typing information, moving through
options in dialog boxes, and selecting options or icons.
As you type information, the PC Cursor follows along with each key you
press.
If you are making a selection in a menu or dialog box, the PC Cursor
highlights the currently selected object.
The PC Cursor is activated by default when JAWS starts. If you are using a
different cursor, pressing NUM PAD PLUS returns you to the PC Cursor.
*Tip, If you are using the Jaws touch cursor, pressing NUM PAD PLUS twice
quickly returns you to the PC Cursor.

The JAWS Cursor - Follows Mouse Pointer

The JAWS Cursor is linked to mouse pointer functions in Windows and other
applications.
It is used to read information the PC Cursor cannot read, such as toolbar
information.
The mouse follows along with the JAWS Cursor when it is moved, and you
therefore have access to information in an application window that is beyond
the scope of the PC Cursor.
To activate the JAWS Cursor, press NUM PAD MINUS.

The Invisible Cursor - Explore Without Moving Focus

The Invisible Cursor allows you to move around the screen without changing
the position of the PC Cursor or mouse pointer.
You can use this cursor to read text and access options that you cannot move
to with the PC Cursor.
You can also use the Invisible Cursor to provide a quick overview of the
information currently available on the screen.
To activate the Invisible Cursor, press NUM PAD MINUS twice quickly.

The Touch Cursor - Object Navigation

The Touch Cursor enables you to navigate the Windows environment using a
touch screen, found on many tablet computers running Windows 8 or later.
*Tip, you do not need to have a touch screen to use the Jaws touch cursor.
To control JAWS from a touch screen, you will use one or more fingers to
perform various gestures directly on the screen, such as tapping, flicking,
and swiping.
When activated from the keyboard, you can use keystrokes to simulate touch
screen gestures to move through the objects in an application to access
information that is not readily accessible using the JAWS or PC Cursor.
The Touch Cursor is always available when navigating using a touch screen.
To activate the Touch Cursor from the keyboard, press SHIFT+NUM PAD PLUS.
Tip, to change from using the touch cursor back to the PC cursor, press the
num pad plus, twice quickly to change back to the regular PC cursor.

The Virtual PC Cursor - HTML Environment The virtual PC Cursor mimics the
functions of the PC Cursor, but is activated by default when entering an
HTML document, such as a web page on the Internet.
The virtual PC Cursor speaks the number of elements on the page when it
first opens.
For instance, the number of links, headings, and regions.
You can use the ARROW keys to navigate and read the document, or use
Navigation Quick Keys to move to specific elements, such as paragraphs,
tables, or headings.
JAWS also reads graphics labeled by alt tags in the HTML code.

Take care.  Mike.  Go Rams!

Subject: [jaws-users] Seeking Tutorial on various JAWS cursors

Hi List,

I'm still relatively new to Fusion and JAWS having started using it at the end of this past Summer. I've been listening to FSCast episode 161 and got confused when one of the callers had a question about JAWS cursors. I heard the following cursors mentions and I'm hoping someone can explain the differences among them or point me to some training reference that does so:

1.   JAWS cursor

2.   PC cursor

3.   Touch cursor

4.   Virtual cursor

I suspect some of the above terms might be different names for the same thing but I don't want to make any assumptions so I thought I'd ask for a direct explanation.

Thanks in advance.

1st Q:  I had 2 folders with your name on them and might have put the files into the wrong one.  Check your folder again, I put the files into the other folder.

2nd Q:  Follow the steps below.
1. Windows key + I, for Settings.
2. Navigate to, Personlization, press enter.
3. Navigate to, Taskbar, press enter.
4. Tab several times to, Notification Area Select which icons appear on the Taskbar link,
press enter.
5. Tab through the icons and when you find Dropbox press the spacebar to turn it on.  Turning icons on or off should happen instantaneously, so press, Jaws key + F11 to check your system tray to make sure Dropbox is showing and just close it up it it is.

Hi Cheryl,

In that case, if you still have 2018 installed, you might want to switch
over to that version, to see if it's the 2019 version, or if it's an iTunes
version.

If I'm not mistaken, 2019 is still in beta version, so there are a tonne of
tweaks that need to be done before it rolls out officially, so I think, in
order to narrow this issue down, use my suggestion above, and if it does
work with 2018, then I suggest you contact Freedom Scientific to report this

bug in the 2019 version.

Not saying this is exactly what your issue is, but it's an easy way of
checking to make sure it's not the beta version of the software that's being

jumpy.

Hi Cheryl,

Couple of options here.

1.

You can download iTunes for business which works very well with the latest version of JAWS and Windows 1809.

https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT208079.

2.

You can download the version from the Microsoft Windows Store which also works well from my testing.

I hope the above is of some use.

Re: Seeking Tutorial on various JAWS cursors

Mike and Robin,

Thanks so much for the detailed explanations. This is exactly what I wanted so I'll get to studying and practicing the different cursors.

Hi Cheryl,

I noticed you have a Gmail account.

In the past, so I'm not sure if this problem has been addressed with Google
and Gmail, but in your account settings, you had to place the word "recent"
before your e-mail address in your account settings in order to see the
message you send out to lists.

Did you do this, and if not, perhaps you should try this so you can see your

messages come back to you.

In your e-mail client, Outlook, Windows Live Mail, Outlook Express,
Thunderbird, what have you, in your account settings, you undoubtedly have a

page with your e-mail address and password so it can retrieve and send your
messages.

In your particular case, the e-mail address in that box should look like
this:

recent:traub104@...

So, go into your account settings, go into the servers tab, and look for
your username/e-mail and place the word recent with a colon just before your

e-mail address, no spaces, then go to the apply button, then shift+tab to
the ok button.

At this point, be prepared to receive a tonne of mail that you've sent in
the past. You may be surprised.

Victor

There are a number of reasons messages don't go through right away but, what
problems Internet Service Providers might have or what momentary servor
issues they might have is something we can't know or help. But, in the
future if you need to forward a message please remove the, FW, from the
