I wonder what would be wrong with my suggestion of simply hitting enter, once the Greek stram on my address starts speaking. By hitting enter you should get into my message straight away, and unless I get mistaken with the keybord, I have six of them stored, it would be all in English.

You can buy one from freedom.  Under the ADA, the employer is responsible at first, for such, but maybe don’t’ tell them that right away.  If you are under vocational rehabilitation, you can maybe have them do it, or you can use Impaired related work expenses, or Blind Related work expenses to get it if you have it.  Those moneys may at least alieviate the cost, maybe going half and half with the employer.

FW: Word 2016, annoying "Resume reading" notification; follow-up

Adrian Spratt

My previous post was bass-ackward. I went to Google, where I should have gone first, and found a suggestion. However, it involves making a change in the registry, which I hesitate to do. Even so, I followed the instructions, only to find that the checkbox they recommend unchecking was already unchecked. So I’m still looking for a solution.

For anyone interested, the link to the article I found is

When reopening a file in Word 2016, I usually get the “Resume reading” notification that allows me to pick up where I left off. But I rarely want to do that when I’m editing. Instead, the notification bounces me out of the document window and is disruptive. I know I need only wait a few seconds for it to go away, but I’d like it to go away permanently.

Hi all,

I wonder what would be wrong with my suggestion of simply hitting enter, once the Greek stram on my address starts speaking. By hitting enter you should get into my message straight away, and unless I get mistaken with the keybord, I have six of them stored, it would be all in English.

                                                                Kindest regards,

                                                Takis

Hi David,

Please let me know what text string you use to make this Greek string say, Takis!  I've copied the text from speech history, I've copied it from the from field, and several other ways, but I can't get the dictionary manager to do anything withit!

Take care.  Mike.  Go Dodgers!

I might just put your from information in my dictionary and have it say
something shorter. Otherwise as the saying goes, "it's all Greek to me."

Unfortunately I cannot change my "from" credentials" so, I might suggest
once you hear the Greek characters assumingly spoken by our common screen
reader, you simply hit enter and see the message.
All the best,
Takis

Don, you don't seem to realize that Takis is writing from Greece and so his
"From" line is naturally in that language. I, for one, am grateful he
contributes so articulately in English.

Your messages are coming through, and your excessively long email identifier
is a pain to wade through with every message for  those of us with screen
readers.

I have a tree view in the left navigation.  However, I prefer to use the Control Y keystroke to open a dialog box where I can arrow up and down more easily.

Subject: [jaws-users] outlook 16?

Hi folks, I'm trying to get outlook  16 to have my inboxes in a list view?

or is it  a tree setting?

In outlook 2003 I was able to accomplish this task moving  folder to folder?

Maybe I'm not looking in the right menus

Hope that makes sense?

Also when I start outlook it goes to the out box instead of the inbox?

I'm not sure what I did so the program doesn't go to the inbox which I would like to do this?

Thanks in advance!

I think you’re looking for control-y, which lists the boxes. Yes, although I believe Outlook 2016 still functions as a tree, JAWS handles it differently. The alternative is shift-F6, which you will need to use to get from the Drafts folder to the folders list. Why? Don’t ask me.

Np.

You will find that it uses the classic standard menu bar rather than ribbons the way Microsoft’s products do now. I also think it’s more responsive (read faster) than MS Office most of the time. Unfortunately it cannot save in the new mS formats, but it can open those files so you can work with them, and then will let you save in an older mS Office format so that people using mS products will still be able to read and use your documents.

OpenOffice from the Apache Foundation will serve most of your needs. It doesn’t have an e-mail client, however.

It has a word processor, a spreadsheet program and a database system. The word processor at least works really well with JAWS. The database seems simpler than Access and it might work better from an accessibility standpoint, but I haven’t played with it much. You will need to make sure you have a java runtime environment installed on your system in order to use that part.

There’s also libreOffice, which is similar to OpenOffice (indeed, they started life as the same thing) but is updated more frequently than OpenOffice and is thus more widely used today by the general public, I think. Unfortunately there  are some accessibility issues as far as JAWS is concerned, or at least that’s been my experience so far. It seems to work better with NVDA, but if you are going to be using JFW, OpenOffice is probably your best bet.
