Hi all!

I just listened to FS Cast 158, and Eric Damary

And Jonathan Mosen talked about the new features coming out in Version 2019.

Many of the features, will be making JAWS much more stable, and much more snappy, and having a much more consistent product, instead of adding a lot of features for Windows 10.

That is what I got from it, anyway!

Nothing new?  Let’s see new license feature and purchase options and they did say new features will appear down the line.  Cleaning it up so it works faster is more important than new features.  Have patients the new features will come October is only 1 there will be approximately 11 more updates to get new features.

Re: Saving Email Messages in Outlook 2016

Adrian Spratt

Hi, Tom.

I have an alternative method that uses most of your steps but that has a big advantage.

First, instead of keeping the message open, close it with escape and place focus against it in the message list.

Press alt-f for file, then a for “save as.”

In the initial field, type not only the name you want for the document, but also the path beginning with c:\ (assuming you’re saving it to the hard drive).

Now, as in your instructions, tab once to the file format list and arrow up or down to the format you want. I typically select .TXT.

Tab to save and press spacebar.

What is the advantage of this procedure? If you want to create a single text file for all the messages, say, in a folder, you can do so by first pressing control-a for “all.” Then the “alt-f, a” (for “save as”) will include all the messages you want saved into that single file.

To elaborate a little, suppose you don’t want to include all the messages in a file folder in that single text file, but only some. I create a new Outlook folder, then move the messages I want into that folder. Now I move focus to the new folder, press control-a, and continue from there.

Copying a series of messages into a single text file can be very useful. True, you’re stuck with all the headers, which is when your MS Word editing skills come into play.

Michelle:

When an e-mail message you want to save is open, go to the file menu in Outlook, and arrow down to the Save As option.

When there, hit enter, and you will be put into the file name field.

Tab once, and you should find a file types option, where you can specify what format to save the file in.

I usually do either a .msg format, or a simple .txt format.

Then, go to your folder and file  list tree view, and specify where you would like the file to go.

I’m sure there are other ways to do this, but this is the process that works best for me.

Just listen to the podcast. This means that jaws 2019 will be out Monday? Regarding the anual license in the US, I am sure that with time it will come out allover the world. Just takes time. Hope they fix issues with edge. Edge appears slow with jaws 2018. I will be doing the beta testing.

I don’t blame you.

From what it sounds like, there are no new features, really, just more stable and reliable that has been needed for a long time.

No problem, hopefully when it is fixed it stays that way.

Hi Casey,

It's as you and I suspected, it is an issue from vfo's end and JAWS.

One of their engineers was able to reproduce the problem.

The good news is that it'll be addressed soon, most likely in the October update to JAWS 2018.

If you'd like them to find a fix  that will backport to the current build, please contact support on the email address you quoted  as well as attaching the bug report to your communication.

Put the below  ticket in the subject of your email so the next product specialist can read the notes given by me and the previous agent.

#335112.

Let me know how you go.

Best,

Sadam Ahmed

Where did you send the bug report? The closest thing I have found on their site so far is the support@... address.

I think I can confirm that this is a jAWS-related issue as I have not been able to duplicate the Firefox hanging at all with NVDA. However, it’s happening with JAWS frequently enough now to have become irritating.

Casey,

Try the below which was sent to me by the VFo support specialist.

If JAWS hangs or fails to    respond and doesn't create the automatic error, you can manually recover and    create a memory dump file using the
following keystrokes:

• For JAWS: INS+WINDOWS Key+F4.

This action forces JAWS to    create a memory dump within a CAB file, shut down, and automatically restart.    It will prompt to send the automatic
error report to Freedom Scientific. In    this case, it is best to choose to not send the report automatically to Freedom    Scientific. Instead, retrieve
all the CAB files that match the time and date    in c:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Freedom Scientific\Reports\ and    send them via a bug report
with the steps that led up to the problem. Remember    to include details such as your system and OS specifications, your application    version, and so
on. The dumps in these cases can tell us the state of all of    the threads at that moment. If there is anything stuck in a wait state, the    dump should
reveal it

Hello Sadam.

Very curious.

Did you try uninstalling FF yet?

This is my first JAWS 2018 version, installed as of about four days ago, so I have no previous build of jFW to compare my experience to, since FF 57+ did not work with JAWS 18.

It is curious that I haven’t come across this issue with NVDA yet, if it is not specifically Jaws related.

Still testing that, I guess.

Also strange that the service representative can’t replicate our problem.

Yes, I am experiencing this issue, and I am currently emailing back and forth with a tech support rep from VFO.

For me exactly what you describe happens, I have not been able to glean a pattern thus far.

In the last thread, the support agent suggested I uninstall FF and evaluate things after a reinstall.

This problem has suddenly appeared, with the August JAWS patch.

It's really quite annoying and a hit to productivity, as both my bank and cell phone websites work really well with FF, and don't play so nice with Chrome.

The strange thing is if the support specialist is running the same production version of v60 then it should be reproducible.

No luck on that front.

I did do a JAWS repair, which didn't help. This would lead me to conclude that it's something at Firefox's end.

Try the uninstall method suggested above and write back to let us know how you go.

Best,

Sadam Ahmed

Hello everyone.

I’m using Windows 10 and the latest build of JAWS 2018.

As has been discussed extensively already, Firefox ESR has now moved to version 60, and the most current version of the browser is version 62, which I am now using. I have not noted much significant difference between versions 60 and 62, from an operational standpoint.

In general, Firefox Quantum works nicely with JAWS, and is fast and responsive; certainly much moreso than Internet Explorer. There is one issue however that I keep having, and I am posting to the list to try and figure out:

1.            If others are having the same problem.

2.            2. Can we glean more information about what is causing the problem, in order to see if it can get resolved.

3.            3. To whom do we report this issue – IE, is it a problem for Freedom Scientific to solve, or for Mozilla, or for both working in tandem – or is it, even, just a problem with my setup somehow.

Here is essentially what I have noticed. I have not, so far, been able to duplicate this problem with NVDA, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening there as well -- more input would definitely be welcome from others who use both screen-readers.

On some pages, Firefox itself seems to hang while I use JAWS to arrow through the page. I am trying to find a pattern in this and would appreciate some help. Both Firefox 60 and 62 seem to do this. So far I have noticed it on the mobile facebook site (once while arrowing around a youtube link), on Mozilla's own Firefox site (on the help/update and install page, right around the "use this download link" link, which I saw when I had Firefox 60 but which I don't see now that I have 62 -- however I was able to replicate this two or three times)

and on this blog: https://libwww.freelibrary.org/blog/post/3466

The hangs themselves involve a brief period of Jaws unresponsiveness, followed by Firefox itself appearing to stop working. At this point the page can still be navigated, but links will not work, nor will commands like links or headings lists. if I alt-tab away and then come back to the browser, the virtual buffer/cursor will not be active and there appears to be no way to get it to come on. At this point, and also before alt-tabbing away, the Firefox menu bar will not function, and alt-f4 will not close the browser, so the only way to remove the FF window/process is through task manager.

So far, again, this only seems to happen while arrowing through a page, and (perhaps) particularly in an area where links appear. Unfortunately this is a method I use often as it lets me read as quickly or slowly as I wish and easily skim through material I find extraneous. On the Mozilla page, I noticed that I could still get to the "use this download link" link using the links list, but each time I tried reading the page and came across the link in its proper context (in the middle of a sentence, in this case), the hang would happen.

Does anyone have thoughts, ideas, notions....

Would be nice to see Firefox and accessibility working well in tandem. They seem dedicated to it and even though it has its obvious perks I would honestly still rather use FF than Chrome, most of the time, given the choice.

Hi,
You need to do this with the message still open.
So under File, you go to save, or the old control + S should work when you have the message open.

Hi all,
I have been using outlook 2003 for appointments and reminders, now I'm trying to learn outlook 2016,  but I can't seem to figure out, how to setup the 2016 calendar so it would work seamlessly with outlook 2016?
Does any one have a description on what is the best way to get the maximum useful application with jaws 2018  and windows 10?
Any ideas are welcome!
