You have to set the alt control J hot key. It isn’t set by default.

Hi Glenn,

The keystroke for reporting Jaws crashing or other problems to Freedom Scientific is, insert, windows, + f4 keys

If you just want to shut Jaws down that keystroke is, Insert + F4.  Reloading Jaws the default keystroke used to be, Control, Alt + J.

Yo Chedda,

Try the following:
Go to the advanced menu with the keystroke, Alt + A.  Then press the letter, D, or arrow to, Device Selection, & press enter.  With Device Selection open
tab 1 time into a list of available options.  Arrow up / down, & usually your scanner brand + WIA, is the the 1 to try first.  Tab to, Okay, & press enter
to save & close.  Now go to, Settings, with the keystroke, Alt + G, & save there as well.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.  Go dodgers!

Yes, you are correct.  I just found the scanner choices in Advance and Device Selection.
It shows the old and new scanners, but I see nothing about Twain.  I'm wondering if it's under Properties.
I shall check.

If you installed the software that came with your Cannon, then that could be the issue.
but select the Twain driver in Openbook scanner settings, and see if that makes a difference.

Setting the Hotkey for Restarting JAWS

Hi, Folks. I want to set up a hotkey combination for restarting JAWS. I want to youse ctrl-plus-alt-j to make this happen. How do I go about doing that? Thanks in advance.--Matthew Chao

Re: Setting the Hotkey for Restarting JAWS

Go to the JAWS icon on the desk top, press alt+enter--this will open the properties, tab over to shortcut hot key--press the letter or number that you want to use as the hot key, for example: 'j', then tab to ok. When you need to reload JAWS just press alt+ctrl+j, (or what ever key you set), and JAWS will reload.

Re: Setting the Hotkey for Restarting JAWS

The only other thing I would add to this and it's purely optional is to consider instead of using the J key as the hotkey, using a number corresponding to the version of Jaws.
I've got Jaws 2019 and 2018 on both my machines and have the corresponding control+alt+number for both. I've always done it this way since I tend to keep my computers through multiple releases of Jaws and don't have to worry about any conflicts and can still start an alternate version of Jaws in the rare case that I may need it.
Again though, purely optional.

Hello, everyone.

As you know, I just updated to the latest build of Jaws 2019 on this Windows 10 PC.

Most things seem to be working well, and I’m very glad to have the Alt 1 through 6 commands available for reading Outlook 2016 message fields.

However, I might have discovered a bug in File Explorer with the new Jaws update.

When in a folder list view, I used to be able to create a new folder using the alt control N command.  I found this to be quite handy and efficient.

While I can still create a new folder by finding the option in the file explorer menus, it seems like the alt control N command is no longer working.

Can anyone else check for this bug, and let us know if it is being experienced on other Windows 10 computers with the latest Jaws update.

Thanks!

Hi Glenn,

When you say Outlook Express the paid program, which Outlook Express are you referring too?  There's OE Classic and there's Outlook Express from Runas Xp that's the Outlook Express from XP rewritten to work with Windows 7, 8 & 10.

As far as the display setting you mentioned, this is the screen resolution setting and not display setting.  For screen resolution it takes some experimentation to get the setting that works best for someone.  For example, I use a 20 inch wide screen monitor at this house and a 17 inch monitor at the other house , but because of the different size monitors I have 2 different screen resolution settings for best all around viewing.  On the 20 inch monitor I have it set at 1280 by 800 and I don't recall what the other one is set at.

Another tip is to use Jaws16 if running the XP OE version rewritten to work with Windows 7, 8 and 10.  Jaws16 is the last version to have all the OE scripts.  Also, if the WinAmp window isn't minimizing it could be interfering with OE, but that's only a guess.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.  Go dodgers!

Hi,
A friend of mine is using Windows 7 and Outlook Express, the paid program, and the latest Jaws.
He thinks it is when he has WinAmp open, but I'm not sure that it is related to WinAmp.
But he opens a message and cannot read it.
If if he switches to an older version of Jaws, like Jaws 2018, he can read messages for a while, and he has the same problem.
If he switches back to 2019, he can read it.
If he unloads jaws and reloads it, he can read messages.
He did a jaws repair and that did not help.
He reinstalled Jaws and that did not help.
I'm wondering about his display settings, but Windows says that the 1280 by 1024 is the recommended settings.
So I'm not sure what might work.
Any ideas?

Jaws crashes when I click on a link in an email to start IE

Hi All,

Since the last Jaws update along with a Windows update my computer crashes when I click on a link in an email that goes to a website. I am using IE. It does not happen every time. I am assuming it might be a Jaws issues as I am running Zoomtech and Jaws together and when my computer crashes Zoomtect start talking and I hear nothing from Jaws. Anyone having this issue?

Go dodgers!

Subject: [jaws-users] Jaws Not Reading Outlook Express Messages

Hi,
A friend of mine is using Windows 7 and Outlook Express, the paid program, and the latest Jaws.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Glenn

IE

Hi All,

Since the last Jaws update along with a Windows update my computer crashes when
I click on a link in an email that goes to a website. I am using IE. It does
not happen every time. I say it happens maybe once out of 10 times. When I
click on the link in the email my computer locks up and the only way to get it
unlocked is to hold in the power button and force a restart. I am assuming it
might be a Jaws issues as I am running Zoomtech and Jaws together and when my
computer crashes Zoomtect start talking and I hear nothing from Jaws. Anyone
having this issue?

Mr. Ed

No on the preview pane, he did not change anything, that is the odd part.

I forgot to ask, does he run his OE with the Preview pane showing?  There's other settings that could be making problems, but not knowing exactly how he's got it set-up it's hard to just start guessing.  Also, is this something that started all of the sudden?

Hi Mike, I think it's the latter OE.
He has to have a key to activate it.
We tried various WinAmp states, but we did not try Jaws 16.
Strangely it went away for a short time when switching to 2018, and again when switching back to 2019.
So I got the idea that just unloading Jaws and reloading it fixes it for a short time.
His display is set to the recommended setting, I think it was 1024 by 1280, or something like that.

If he ran the, Stascom Utility Suite, this would maximize the targeted windows automatically.

Yes, he has to maximize OE and the messages each time he opens a message, otherwise, Jaws won't read anything.
