When I open an excel file JAWS is focused on one cell and you can't go to another cell with arrow keys to read the cell.

It would help if you were specific about what you are finding difficult.
For me, Outlook is accessible with very little adjustment.
Most of my adjustments are personal preference, it has been accessible with Jaws, and before that Window-Eyes, for a long time.
Folks on this list will help, but we need you to be specific about what your issues are.
Also, depending where you live, you may also be able to call Microsoft Accessibility to get help.

Hello, everyone.

As you know, I just updated to the latest build of Jaws 2019 on this Windows 10 PC.

Most things seem to be working well, and I’m very glad to have the Alt 1 through 6 commands available for reading Outlook 2016 message fields.

However, I might have discovered a bug in File Explorer with the new Jaws update.

When in a folder list view, I used to be able to create a new folder using the alt control N command.  I found this to be quite handy and efficient.

While I can still create a new folder by finding the option in the file explorer menus, it seems like the alt control N command is no longer working.

Can anyone else check for this bug, and let us know if it is being experienced on other Windows 10 computers with the latest Jaws update.

Thanks!

Tutorial of word with the use of jaws      Hi all,

I remember that, about a month or two ago, someone posted an address which included a file which was a tutorial of using jaws with word. I had a feeling I saved that on dropbox so as I could get it on other computers, however this was not to find, and maybe, it was only a url which I marked while at Ioannina. It was very disappointing when I tried to look it up from here in Athens and could not detect a saved file, nor did I come up with the relevant post on the archive, so, would be grateful if anybody that has and remembers that posting, would kindly send it to me. I remember it was an audio file, or web content.

Hi Holjer. The below suggestions, as issued to us by our service desk at work can improved the experience with jaws, although these things are not critical.

You will find that Outlook 2016 is very similar to Outlook 2010. All of the hotkeys that you know from Outlook 2010 will still work as expected. There are some new features that you will find useful.

Initial setup

There are some settings in Outlook that should be changed to improve accessibility.

Turn off the Reading Pane.

To turn off the reading pane, press the following keys after opening Outlook:

Alt, v, p, n, o.

Turn off the to-do bar

To turn off the to-do bar, pres the following keys after opening Outlook:

Alt, V, B, O.

Turn off Grouping of Messages

By default, Outlook is set to display messages in groups such as today, yesterday, last week, etc. You may wish to turn off this option to make the message list easier to navigate.

To do this, press the following keys after starting Outlook:

Alt, V, A, B.

Then, arrow down to Show in Groups and make sure it is unchecked. If it is checked, just press Enter to uncheck it and return to the message list.

The keystroke for reporting Jaws crashing or other problems to Freedom Scientific is, insert, windows, + f4 keys

If you just want to shut Jaws down that keystroke is, Insert + F4.  Reloading Jaws the default keystroke used to be, Control, Alt + J.

Yo Chedda,

Try the following:
Go to the advanced menu with the keystroke, Alt + A.  Then press the letter, D, or arrow to, Device Selection, & press enter.  With Device Selection open
tab 1 time into a list of available options.  Arrow up / down, & usually your scanner brand + WIA, is the the 1 to try first.  Tab to, Okay, & press enter
to save & close.  Now go to, Settings, with the keystroke, Alt + G, & save there as well.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.  Go dodgers!

Go to the JAWS icon on the desk top, press alt+enter--this will open the properties, tab over to shortcut hot key--press the letter or number that you want to use as the hot key, for example: 'j', then tab to ok. Re: Setting the Hotkey for Restarting JAWS

The only other thing I would add to this and it's purely optional is to consider instead of using the J key as the hotkey, using a number corresponding to the version of Jaws.
I've got Jaws 2019 and 2018 on both my machines and have the corresponding control+alt+number for both. I've always done it this way since I tend to keep my computers through multiple releases of Jaws and don't have to worry about any conflicts and can still start an alternate version of Jaws in the rare case that I may need it.
Again though, purely optional.

Subject: [jaws-users] Possible Bug In File Explorer In New Jaws Update

Thanks!
