Hi,

Yes I have notice Jaws now announcing spelling errors. I believe this just started with the latest June Jaws update.

I haven’t experienced this specific problem but since the April update of JAWS2019 I have been experiencing several problems with JAWS and outlook2010. JAWS reads the e-mail type and name even though  I have the filter set to off. JAWS also reads a line at the beginning of every e-mail yet that line doesn’t exist anywhere in Outlook and jaws likes to read the e-mail twice.

Now with the new update of JAWS JAWS always announces ‘spelling error’, in Word and outlook, even though I have that setting to off.

Anybody else experiencing these problems or have an idea about how I can correct them?

Hi Everyone,

I am not sure when this started happening. I don’t know if it started after the last windows update or the latest update of Jaws and Zoomtext. I have notice when I open an email in 2010 Outlook I was able to just hit the arrow up key and Jaws would be at the top of the email body. Now I have to press the ctrl + home key to go to the top of the email then press the down arrow to start reading. Anyone else experience this issue. Any suggestions on what I could change or do to make Jaws be at the top of the email body?

Windows 8 was a flop, like Vista was, but they came out with 8.1 and shortly after windows 10, and that is why there was a small market penetration.

Vista became pretty good after Microsoft's fixes, but most people went into 7 by then.

Not many, that's why it didn't last in the market; never had the penetration of Windows 7 or 10; and since mainstream support already ended over a year ago, and extended supports ends in 2023, you're better off just biting the bullet and going with Windows 10.

I know of no good reason why anybody would opt to upgrade to Windows 8 instead of going straight to 10.

If you are still using accessibility like Jaws or another screen-reader, you can still do it for free.

Howdy Patti,

I'm not sure which version of Windows 10 introduced the Emoji panel, but I never played around with it until Windows 10, 1903  OS Build 18362.145.  I do know you can't access the Emoji panel with Jaws2018, or at least I can't on my computer, but I can with Jaws2019.

Hey Mike B,

I tried the windows key plus semicolon, and got this.

When I did the windows key plus period, I couldn’t do anything, because jaws didn’t read it.

I’m running Jaws 2018 and 2019, windows 10, 1803, and MS10.

This sounds so cool.

Hi Mike,

When you are in any type of app that will accept text like email, text file or document, open the Emoji panel with either, Windows key + semicolon key, or, Windows key + period key, now arrow around to the emoji you want and press enter.  Now press escape to close the emoji panel and you should be able to read the emoji you just pasted into the file you're working with.  If this doesn't work write back and we'll see what else to try.  These are the steps that work for me.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.  Go dodgers!

According to a recent study, the most neglected aspect of technical optimization is website accessibility for the visually impaired and blind.
The study from Searchmetrics used Google Lighthouse to test the level of technical optimization of high-ranking websites.
For the most part, the results of the study are as expected. High ranking websites tend to be fast, use the latest web technologies, and provide an adequate level of security.
What stood out most was the fact that many highly-ranked sites on Google are not doing enough to make their pages accessible to people with disabilities.
The average overall score for accessibility for sites that appear in the top 20 positions on Google was 66.6 out of 100.
That’s the lowest score of the four website Lighthouse categories that were analyzed in the study.
The Google Lighthouse accessibility score is based on how sites perform on tests that measure areas such as color contrast and whether images, buttons, and fields in online forms have been tagged with meaningful names and descriptions.
Daniel Furch, Director of Marketing EMEA at Searchmetrics, speaks on these results:
“If you don’t make your site easily accessible to those with disabilities, including those with impaired vision, you cut yourself off of from a large group of visitors.
Not only is it ethically a good idea to be inclusive, but also obviously you could be turning away potential customers. And some sites have even faced lawsuits for failing on this issue.”
For more information about Google Lighthouse ranking factors in 2019, download the full study here.

One more note.  I just realized that JAWS is reading those keystrokes  on other Outlook ribbons, but, when I tab across the Appointment or Meeting ribbon, there are no shortcuts read out. That leads me to think there are not keystrokes to quickly access the buttons on those ribbons.  Best I can think is to hit alt once to land on that ribbon in your open meeting and tab a few times to the SHOW group.  I think you can also do a control right arrow to jump to that Show Group, then arrow once to Scheduling Assistant.

I would skip 8, it was not a good version.

I'm going to upgrade to 8 before 10, which may never happen if I'm lucky.

Smile, I didn’t think there were any windows 8 users left.

Hello all,

As subject say does ofice 20019 home business work in windows 8.1? I am a bit confused, because I read in the requirements that it worked on windows 10, but still I might have misunderstood; so I thought I might ask to see if any of you has it on windows 8.

Thank you in advance.

Hello all

Go and have a look at Glenda Such's site at:

https://www.suchasite.com/

It has a huge collection of information about technology, smart phones, screen readers, trivia and a lot of audio material including audio described movies and much, much more. I think this site is a treasure trove of valuable information. It is updated regularly and was last updated two days ago.

I am not positive, but believe you have to be running Windows 1809

Go dodgers!

I can get into the emogees, but can't make it appear on a message.  I hit enter, but nothing happens.  My wiife tells me that theddre's an x box, but I can't find it with jaws.  Is there a command key?
