Dell model number

How do I find the model number of my Dell Win10 system?

Re: system repair

Steve

I don't think system repair will do that, because it just restores your system to what it was originally set at.

What you might try is Pc Decrapifier.  It will get rid of some of the other "junk" programs.  But, some things, you may need to delete separately, like those damn stupid PcTangent Games that seem to come on a lof of manufacturers' computers.

You can run it as a portable application from a USB drive.  It doesn't install anything on your PC.

The free version is the same as the "personal" version, although the personal version has a $5 donation to support future development.  There is a Pro commercial version for PC techs that has some extra features.

I haven't used it in a couple years, but it was accessible with Jaws when I did use it.

Hi Mike and all

With JAWS 2018, I do not encounter any problem reading all the items/folders of the setting center no matter which screen echo I select. Go figure!

Okay then it's a J2019 issue.  You can try repairing J2019, reinstalling it or, if you're located somewhere that allows you to call FS tech support call them to see what they say to do.  Maybe they can tandem with your computer and find the reason for this type of behavior.

Let's see if it's a Jaws setting.  Try the following:

Hold down the, Insert key, then press the, spacebar, to activate the layered keystroke feature then press the letter, Z.  This will temporarily bypass your settings and put Jaws into it's factory default settings mode.

If Jaws reads the Settings Center and default all applications correctly while in the factory default settings then it's one of your settings that's causing the weird behavior and now the trick is finding which setting.
This keystroke sequence is a toggle so, press the key combination to go back to your personal settings.

ADMIN: List Guidelines Reminder

Rick Justice <ricjustice@...>

About JAWS-Users-List
English (USA)
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list. This list has been created for The
purpose of discussing all aspects of the JAWS for Windows screen reader
Program.

So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what
software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better

with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be
requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we
all

know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain
task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently.
Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact
instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It
creates

a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I
am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how

new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence
to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be

there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is
quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than
first.

So try it yourself first whatever it is. If you get stuck then let the list
know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma. Then I'm sure

help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if there is a
software package that does a specific task and works well with JAWS is
perfectly

fine.
The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and
Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of
Freedom

Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then take it up
with Freedom Scientific directly.
Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible.
Signatures and tag lines should not be more than a couple of sentences,
three or four at the most. If you wish to include a tag line, don't make
another

message of it. Placing anything else in there simply increases the bandwidth
required to handle the posted message and make it more work for a person who

wishes to follow the given thread back to review previous messages, as they
have to plow down past an overly long signature. Also please place your
message

above your signature line so as not to force people to read it before they
get to your message.
Also any newsletters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not
be posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval.
Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done
for your protection.
When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive
in the subject line as to the purpose of the message.
Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines,
then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions

that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not
receive an answer for a number of reasons.
Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the
footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list.
Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you
may receive an email from the server asking you to reactivate your account.

Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and follow the
directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after receiving a
number

of such messages then the server will remove your email address
automatically.
The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with
flirting or other such inappropriate activities. This is not a high tech
swap shop

or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services
will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is
off

topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does
not make it all right.
Posting to a single address IE this list is the preferred acceptable
practice as we do not allow cross posting. That is simply posting to more
than one

list or address in the same message. You can post the same message to
multiple list, but not at the same time.
Now to the matter of replying to a posted message:
The proper practice is to simply hit the reply command in your respective
email client, IE control + R is used quite often in many programs.
The SUBJECT: field should be short and to the point without including any
member names.
Please do not reply to a posted question simply to say you don't know the
answer. All that does is create more traffic on an already very busy list
for

no reason at all.
Lastly please no jokes, virus warnings, recipes, safety tips, or pleas to
help dying kids, should ever be forwarded to the list.
Forwarded messages and attachments are not permitted. If you have an article
or message of interest which relates to the
Nature of this list send it to the list owner and if it is appropriate, it
will be posted to the list. Additionally if you want to make an announcement

about another list send it to the list owner for consideration. Do not post
it to the list before obtaining approval.
No auto responders are to be used on this list! Those who use auto
responders for vacations and so forth must make sure that this list is not
included. Any person who sends an auto response message will be removed!
My hope is that this list will always be a place where everybody no matter
what their particular skill level can feel safe to ask any question at all
within

the guidelines that I have set forth. It is my experience that such rules of
conduct are important to keep good people on the list.

One thing to take into consideration is what will happen to a new computer's warranty if you don't keep / leave / put all that crap on the computer.  And with all the problems that pop-up with a computer it might be a bad idea to wait until the warranty runs out before removing the Crapware.

Hi Holger,

I would really hate to say anything other than to call FS tech support because I've never tried to repair anything having to do with HJPad or its components.  At this point because of my lack of knowledge I don't think if I was having this problem I would do anything until I had talked to FS.  Show Bella a picture of JAWS to take her mind off spellchecking.  She would like to sink her teeth / claws into a big old fish likt that for sure!  LOL

Lenny,
To my knowledge, a system repair would not eliminate all that junk.
I think a certified repair person can download an image for a brand computer and reinstall Windows with your Windows key.
But as far as I know, companies like HP and Dell don't let us download clean images that will work with your product key.

I do not remember how to initiate a windows system repair but that is mute at the moment. I was in Staples this afternoon and took a quick look at some desktop computers. They have 2 HP systems one for a little over $400 and next week a larger model that should be around $450. I never had a brand name machine before all were home or custom built eliminating all of the junk that is pre loaded. Now my question is if I purchase one of these machines will system repair download windows and eliminate all of the junk?

Howdy Chedda,

I just added a word to the HJPad dictionary and deleted it.  If you want a word added, with a word selected while in the spellcheck dialogue you tab to, Add, and press the spacebar and if you want to delete a word while in the spellcheck dialogue you tab to, Dictionaries... button, and press the spacebar to open.  Now find the word you want to remove and tab to, Delete word button, and press the spacebar.  There's several other options, but I'm not going to go through all of them and bore everyone to tears.  This is the name of the HJ default dictionary:  ssceam.tlx

I haven't been able to find its location, but if I do I'll let everyone know.

HJPad has its own dictionary. The only thing is one can’t add a word to the dictionary. This baffles FS techs too.Vince

Spellchecking in WLM has no bearing whether the spellcheck is turned on in word.

1, open word,

2, alt+f=file,

3, t=options,

4, p=proofing,

now tab and you can change various settings.

I do, however I can check if you let me know how. PS I think is on because when I use WLM to send email, before I send the mail, my spell checker looks at my spelling.

If you want a simple word processing program that is very similar to HJ Pad that comes with a built-in spell checker, take a look at Jarte:

Hi Holger,

??

I just tried doing a spellcheck in HJPad and it worked just fine.?? After I typed in a couple of sentences I pressed the, F7 key, and the whole document was spellchecked giving me all mispelled words with options for each word to ignore, ignore, change, change all or add.
