Hi. You need to check the box for play start-up sound. Press the windows key and type sound in to the search box. Press enter. This is a multi-page dialog, so press control tab until you get to the sounds page. Then tab through until you hear, play windows start-up sound and press spacebar to check the box. Tab to ok and all should be fine.

Forget about setting a start-up sound.?? Is there any way to set a shutdown sound in Windows 10??? This event is not listed on the Sounds page list of events for which a sound can be assigned, unlike in Windows 7 and XP. In the absence of such a shutdown alert, how can you tell for shure that your computer has completely shut down and the power has turned off, aside from feeling the case to determine whether the fan is still running or pressing the eject button for the DVD tray, if your computer has one

If you want the startup sound to play when you start your computer, you have to turn off fast startup.

Yes. I did so. I selected the sound I want to use, apply and OK. I even did the test to see if the wav file play and did so. However when I start PC does not work. If I recall it did not work on w10. Never had issue with w7 or SP.

I am glad someone else has the same feeling on this annoyance. I could care less about the start up sound, since your screen reader lets you know when the system is booted up. But especially with the newer laptops, there is little or nothing to let you know if the system has shut down. This would be ever so much more helpful Thantthan the start up. It would be nice if the screen reader might give you a hint. It does stop speaking and that is a good indication but does not assure that the shutdown is complete.

Hi Sim Kah,

Okay then it's a J2019 issue.  You can try repairing J2019, reinstalling it or, if you're located somewhere that allows you to call FS tech support call them to see what they say to do.  Maybe they can tandem with your computer and find the reason for this type of behavior.

I don’t like it either; I tried to set a general sound for whenever ANYT program shuts down, but it didn’t really take—too many sounds, actually! So, I content myself with hearing the slight whirring when the computer shuts down—if there’s not a lot of ambient noise, that works.

I am no longer using Notes for mail, just for a couple old databases.  So,, I have not done the update you have, but still wanted to offer that I remember my IT people always had to add a line of code to my setup file when I did a Notes upgrade.  Not sure, but it would be worth checking that your new version of Notes has this code line added.   It’s not something I could walk you through, as I don’t recall the specifics any more, but at least wanted to point you in a possible direction.  A fuzzy memory says you need to be working in the Basic version of Notes.

Hi,
In my Lotus notes 7 under Win 7
Jaws indicated correctly attachment inside of the body mail.
It is version 9.x.
But under win 10 I am having version 10, where jaws will not announce attachments.
Don't know why it happened. Did somebody experienced same problems?

Oh, I did not mean anything negative about your question and I apologize for any affront. I was merely stating that I was more interested in a shut down sound which Win 10 has totally eliminated.

Is there anyway to edit a dvd video? WBRE-TV has done a few stories on me. I use to have links to the stories and they are no longer available. I requested a copy of the stories to place on my webpage. They sent me a very interesting dvd. All 3 stories are combined. I really could not get in to look at the files, as soon as I insert the dvd or access E: it automatically plays. Finally using the application key I was able to see the files. There is no way that I can break them down, one for each story. The file names are as follows:
VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB, VTS_01_0.BUP VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_0.VOB and VTS_01_1.VOB
So there is no way for me to separate the 3 files and make video files that can be selected on my web page.
The quality of the dve is 2nd to none. They did a fantastic job but I can only play it in a dvd player or on my computer. I tried to click on each file and windows has no idea on what to do with it. I wonder how it knows to play it on my computer.

Re: edit video

Hi.

Sounds like the standard DVD format to me. You will probably want to find some software to rip to a more pportable/computer-friendly format, like an .avi or .mkv container. Not sure what programme is playing the DVD on your machine but, if you use VLC, you can select individual chapters from what amounts to the DVD menu.

It's been years since I ripped a DVD and that was on an XP machine, and to be honest, as lame as it sounds, at the time I think I let my ex-girlfriend handle most of it. I have some software on this machine that I think would be able to do it but, because I haven’t attempted this, I am not sure how accessible/usable any of it is.

Another thing you could maybe try is use something to capture the video and audio streams from the DVD. Basically you  could play them and record to another format. Again, I can’t tell you specifically what to do, but I know people do do this. I recently got a command line utility called ffmpeg that I think can do this, but haven’t had time to do anything with it. Seems life’s too short for all the toys, lately.

There are definitely resources on the web out there that can help you achieve what you want.
