Or, you could use the "find" to get you to the location on the page and then do the select from marker.

Hi Lenny,

Set your temporary placemark and experiment with navigating with the pagedown key.  I find that each press of the pagedown key is roughly 25 lines.  I haven't played around enough to give you exact steps on how to get from the temporary placemark to the exact line number, but I'm close.

Have you tried Control-Shift-K to mark the start of a segment and then Insert-Spacebar and then M to mark the end? After that, just press delete.

Has anyone found a line editor or tried spflite that will work with jaws?

I am trying to edit some very large files and trying to select each line is becoming a problem. With my old mainframe spf editor it was a very easy task. You would just mark your starting line and ending line then copy, delete or whatever you wanted.

Dear friend, do the following.

Press JAWS key+6 and press enter.

Now press ctrl+shift+d and press enter.

Now type manage key and search manage key level.

Press space bar on it.

There you will find 84 different things you can mute any one of them.

Aftershokz has bone conduction headphones that are wired, with the standard 3.5 MM plug.
Most USB headphones I've seen are going to block your ears unless you only put them in one ear.
I believe the aftershokz wired ones are around $50 or so.
They are not high fidelity, but if you are mostly focused on listening to JAWS, they would be fine.

Hi Stanley,

Below are 2 sets of steps, you might have to use both of them depending on what keys you would like to silence:
 #1:  From: Mike B
Try the following:
1. Open the Settings Center with, Insert + 6 on the number row, & press, Control, Shift + D, to open Settings Center Default All Applications.
2. Arrow down to, Keyboard, & press right arrow to open.
3. Arrow down to, Manage Key Labels...., & press the spacebar to open.  Note:  Do not press enter, pressing enter will close the Settings Center.
4. After pressing the spacebar you will be in a list of keys.  Arrow down to the key you want to mute, & Tab 1 time to the, Toggle Mute Button, & press
the spacebar to mute.  You'll hear Jaws announce, for example the Tab key, Tab Tab mute.
5. Tab to, Okay, press the spacebar, tab to, Apply, press the spacebar, tab to, Okay, & press enter to save your change & close the Settings Center.

 #2: From: net bat66
thanks to chris on the gw-info talk list
there is a work around for stopping jaws from speaking the control, shift, alt,
etc in the keyboard labeler.
these keys say they can not be muted. but if you tab to change label and delete
the title and leave them blank this will stop them from speaking when you press
them.

I believe you may be able to do what you want with the Logitek H800 headset. They have the USB dongle and a microphone also. With the switch you can also pair a BT device such as a smart phone. You can be using the headset on the computer but if a phone call comes in, just move the switch to BT and answer the call without even picking up the phone.
The headset is over the ear but I have no problem hearing everything around me me and they are very light weight.
I am not positive about routing Jaws to the headset, but believe it is possible to do this. Check them out.

Madison,

It’s tough without seeing the articles, but here are the tricks I use for my newsletter emails.

  1. If available, click the link in the email that often says something like, “if this email is not appearing properly, click this link to view in a web browser.”
  2. See if the title of the article is also a link.  In our daily industry newsletter here at work, I find the news story title is a link that works better than the “Read more” link for whatever reason.
  3. Try using the JAWS F7 keystroke to pull up a list of links in the email and activate the link from there.  I realize this may not work well if you end up with this list of links that all say “read more” or such, but you may find is helpful.

Let us know if that helps.

I have a problem that’s driving me nuts. I am subscribed to a number of newsletters and most of them have links to click on so that you can either read eith the whole story or the rest of the story. My question is:

When I click on a link sometimes it opens but most of the time it doesn’t so I’m wondering, is there some setting or something that I need to change so that when ever I click on a link in one of these newsletters it will open in my browser? I’m using Jaws 15, Windows 7, Outlook 2013 and Internet Explorer. I really hope that someone can help me, lots of the time I end up having to delete the email because I can’t read the story/article that I want to read. Look forward to hearing back from anyone who can help me! Thanks

I do not know how! as soon as I plug in  ear buds everything goes mute so I can not select it.
Just thinking maybe a 2nd usb sound card will do the trick.

You can do that without USB.

Glen I only want to use them with my desk top computer. I wanted to direct jaws to this head phone in the soundcard menu.

Lenny,
I think USB is not what you would want.
You just need some headphones, like what was mentioned earlier, like a pair of bone conduction headphones.
I have a pair of Afterschox that I use when walking and I can still hear traffic.

Absolutely, there are a number of possibilities for you to pick from. Hit the local electronics store and explain to them what you want.

Is there a kind of ear bud usb device that I can use for jaws? I want something very light and that I can hear when someone is calling me from downstairs.

It's probably asking what you plugged in, and you will need to select headphone.

I think i hav this right. The ear bugs have a proprietary design and don’t always work in non Apple jacks. You can try pushing them in and then pulling them out just a fraction and see if you can hear JAWS. Otherwise I would try non Apple ear buds.
