I think that for some of the things I need, and given my situation, right

hearing aid that I'm getting accustomed to and I'm mobility impaired and
there aren't always sighted people here.

I know it was a typo but, to switch from the, Touch cursor, back to the PC cursor, you press the, PC cursor key / Numpad plus key, twice quickly.  the, Shift + PC cursor keystroke only activates the Touch cursor.

Previously I asked about a CD/DVD copy and burn utility because I could not get the copy I had to install.
So I searched on-line, and the main link I found was CDXP software.
So I downloaded the latest and tried and ran into the same issue, I could not move ahead in the install, like before.
So I turned on the touch cursor and found a window that was wanting me to check a box whether or not I wanted it to also install Yahoo.
I selected no and then next worked.
The Jaws cursor did not read this, and the PC cursor did not either, which the main cursor.
So the way it usually goes is the PC cursor does not do what you think it should do.
So you route the Jaws to the PC and read around and even try to click on something if there seems anything to click on.
And if that fails, before you give up, turn on the touch cursor with shift + PC cursor and arrow around mostly left and right, and you can use the space bar or enter key.
Shift + PC cursor sets it back to the normal PC cursor.

Since the latest Jaws 2019 update I’ve been having problems with JAWS settings in my outlook. In the ‘what’s new’ it indicates that older versions of Outlook—(2010),  should be using the configuration file ‘outlook classic’. But this isn’t happening the old office 2010 files are still being loaded. I think I should remove the old config file so that the outlook classic loads instead. But I can’t find where to delete the old files, I can’t find them under ENU. Anybody has an idea how I can do this?

Re: looking for two Excel keystrokes -- if they exist

Ann Byrne

Unfortunately, JAWS2019 does not report average and sum with insert+3. JAWS2018 does. I have reported this to FS.

At 12:23 PM 5/16/2019, you wrote:
Hello Robin,

If you are only using arrow keys then you are not selecting but simply navigating. If you select by using the shift key with arrow keys or by using other selecting keystrokes then the status bar should give you the count. When you select the cells the status bar gives other things like the average and sum of the selected range of cells along with the number of cells selected. If this isn't happening then use F6 to go to the status bar, press either the application key of shift with F10, and use down arrow to the "Count" item and see if it is checked. If it isn't checked then use enter key to add it to the status bar. If it is checked then just escape out of the menu and use F6 to go back to the worksheet. The items in the menu include one for "Count" and one for "numeric count." The "Numeric count" gives the number of cells that contain only numbers and the "Count" should give the actual number for the cells you select.

You can use JAWS key with C to get the cell coordinates. JAWS key with tab should give you the name of the worksheet, the contents of the current cell and the cell coordinates.

Take care.

There are two things I miss from using Window Eyes with Excel. I'm wondering if an equivalent exists in JAWS.

First, Is there a way, other than to arrow away and back, to have JAWS announce the current cell coordinates? This is particularly helpful when in the middle of typing a formula and I need to recall the current cell I'm in.

Second, I sometimes need to count a subset of rows or columns in a file. For example, today I was looking at a list of all employees and I just needed to count out the number in a particular team. With Window Eyes, I would start at the first cell and arrow down till the last one. By default, Window Eyes would announce the number of columns or cells selected, depending on which way I was moving. Is there some way to ask JAWS how many rows, columns or cells are currently highlighted? I tried reading the status line, but that didn't' seem to work.

Using JAWS 2019 latest build with Windows 10 and Excel 2016.

Our you by chance using Zoomtext or Fusion? I know if you are using these two programs there is an issue with them and having your monitor go to sleep. As for Jaws maybe someone else can confirm this.

Hi, Folks. Since updating to the most current version of JAWS 2019,
I've encountered the following:

1. I'm using a Dell T1700 Precision Workstation with 8GB RAM and
running Windows 10 Professional.

2. I leave my system running, 24/7 and have the screen lock after about
30 minutes.

3. When I go to bed and come back to the system in the morning, JAWS is
very sluggish, and I can't seem to unlock the screen. I have to turn
off the system and restart it.

Has anyone else encountered this problem, and if so, what did you do
about it? Thanks in advance.--Matthew Chao

that if I have two programs running, say for instance MS Outlook and MSWord,
and When I then open a third program like Google Chrome, Jaws does not see
the info on the screen. When I use the arrow keys it just says "blank,
blank, ...". I even increased my PC memory to 8 GB in the hope it would
solve the problem but it did not. When I unload jaws and load it again, the
problem is solved but it is frustrating to have to do this every time, so I
hope someone has a solution.

Thanks. I know them and also Maxiaids which actually does sell computers.
Thanks. I just thought that perhaps someone on this list actually knew
someone. It's interesting that we can't depend on agencies for the blind to
provide this help. Years and years ago, the Lighthouse, (New York
Association for the Blind), would teach you if you went there and paid $60
an hour. But I'm homebound and no agency in the New York area does anything
like that unless it's paid for by the Commission for the Blind and they only
help people who are young and healthy enough to work.

weird problem with Outlook 2019 and JAWS

JOHN RIEHL

Hi. I’m having a weird problem with Outlook 2019 and JAWS. When I go into an e-mail message and go to Insert (to insert a file, then tab over to attach file and press enter, I’m presented with a list of recent documents, as opposed to the expected behavior, which is being placed in the My documents directory. The Browse inside my computer, which does give this behavior, is at the bottom of a list of documents. This is highly annoying.

Also, when I’m in the list of documents, Jaws keeps saying “document grid”, which don’t remember hearing previously. What’s going on and how can I fix these annoying behaviors?
