One way to keep a page’s focus on a link while clicking on it is to press control-enter instead of just enter. This opens a new window, but it keeps focus where you left it on the original window. At any rate, this is my experience. Windows 10, current release of JAWS 2019, Chrome 74.

What I’m trying to resolve is when using Chrome I go to a website arrow down through the lists, click on a link and JAWS jumps back to the top of the site rather than staying focused on the info that comes up after clicking on the link. If I use I.E. the JAWS focus stays on the info that comes up after clicking on the link. Is there something I can set to resolve this issue. Your system is a little lite on memory, but I wouldn’t say for sure that is the reason for the problem. I had this issue a long time ago and if memory serves it had something to do with sound card drivers.

Hi Tom i am not sure if your sound issue is same as mine.

I have had an issue off and on for about 2 years now on only 2 of my
cheaper Laptops.

My issue is out of the blue jaws will be talking fine then all of a
sudden jaws witll get really reverby and little un responsive.

And i need to do a restart of my computer and the sound is all back to
normal.

But my issue can happen 3 times in half hour.

Or it may not stuff up for days.

2 years ago i did a total reinstalled windows 10 on 1 machine and it
fixed it for ages.

Then few months back it started up again.

Each time this happens i have found under my reliability history in win
10 tells me their was a error saying windows host process has stopped
working or not responding and had to close.

I have had stacks of thoes errors come up.

Most reports have been reported to Microsoft but no fixes.

And i have reinstalled the realteck audio drivers lots of times by
uninstalling drivers under devices.

So i am frustrated as well.

I have 3 dearer laptops with Realteck sound cards and never had a
problem with them.

I feel its something to do with the drivers.

Cheers Michael.

Hello, everyone.

You may recall that last week, I had a Jaws distorted speech problem

The problem was fixed by uninstalling the Windows generic sound card

file from Mike Mote.

Unfortunately, my problem has returned, but in a different form.

My jaws speech is slightly distorted in the laptop speakers, and when
I use headphones, I get stereo sound with a slight reverberation,
rather than Jaws being in the center of the headphones.

Does anyone have any suggestions for solving this latest issue?

I’m using the latest build of Jaws 2019.

Thanks as always.

There are two things I miss from using Window Eyes with Excel. I'm wondering if an equivalent exists in JAWS.

First, Is there a way, other than to arrow away and back, to have JAWS announce the current cell coordinates? This is particularly helpful when in the middle of typing a formula and I need to recall the current cell I'm in.

Second, I sometimes need to count a subset of rows or columns in a file. For example, today I was looking at a list of all employees and I just needed to count out the number in a particular team. With Window Eyes, I would start at the first cell and arrow down till the last one. By default, Window Eyes would announce the number of columns or cells selected, depending on which way I was moving. Is there some way to ask JAWS how many rows, columns or cells are currently highlighted? I tried reading the status line, but that didn't' seem to work.

Using JAWS 2019 latest build with Windows 10 and Excel 2016.

Probably because it is easier to use and more powerful than the built in mail app for Win 10.

The lack of support is not a drawback since the program is so straight forward that after a short learning curve none of it’s users need support.

why would you want to use windows live mail with windows 10 when there's already a built in e-mail client in windows10.  also, there's no support for those who use windows live mail. the Microsoft accessibility desk won't help you.

There are two things I miss from using Window Eyes with Excel.  I’m wondering if an equivalent exists in JAWS.

First, Is there a way, other than to arrow away and back, to have JAWS announce the current cell coordinates?  This is particularly helpful when in the middle of typing a formula and I need to recall the current cell I’m in.

I tried reading the status line, but that didn’t’ seem to work.

Using JAWS 2019 latest build with Windows 10 and Excel 2016.

Larry,

One way to keep a page’s focus on a link while clicking on it is to press control-enter instead of just enter. This opens a new window, but it keeps focus where you left it on the original window. At any rate, this is my experience. Windows 10, current release of JAWS 2019, Chrome 74.

Hi Mike;

I’ve looked at the I.E. tab settings but I’m unable to find tab settings in Chrome. The closest option is importing bookmarks/settings but all that is available there are: browsing history, passwords, favorites and bookmarks. Perhaps Chrome doesn’t allow us to change these settings. Or I’m just not finding the right option.

Hi Larry,

I know what you are talking about but, I don't know what setting in Chrome causes this to happen.  If you look in your IE11 settings, Alt + T, for tools and the letter, O, for options on the General tab, Tab to the Tabs button, press the spacebar to open and look at your settings in here an this might give you an idea as to what to look for in Chrome.

Hi Mike;

Tried this but perhaps I’m asking the wrong question. It’s a pain to have to jump through all the lists and links each time.

Hi Larry,

With Chrome running open the Chrome settings Center and navigate to,Web / HTML / PDFs closed, right arrow to open, down arrow to, Heading and Frames closed, right arrow to open, and in here are a couple of Fram settings you can change to see if it'll help.  If you make any changes tab to, Okay, press enter to save and close.

Does anybody know how to turn off automatic frame updates in Google Chrome. This feature is available in I.E.

yes, you most likely need a file called

configNames.ini

and need to be placed into the jaws enu folder.

if you want I can send you the file, or, I could try to connect with you.

I tried this as well and indeed, it fixed the autocomplete bug for me, but at the cost of the subject field in the Outlook calendar not being spoken by Jaws. This for me was a non starter. Thus I had to remove that config file they sent me.

Hi. I ultimately called JAWS support. They installed a file whose name I forget in my JAWS settings folder. At first it didn’t fix the problem but now it works properly. Go figure.

I recommend calling support and having them remote into your machine.
