Re: WLM Curiosity

Sure, if you open windows live mail, use keystroke, ctrl+shift+o=options, now, ctrl+tab to spelling page,

if you have office, you can setup the spell check.

if you need to use a standalone spellchecker, you install the program, and then take the above steps.

You may be correct on this as I have had Microsoft Office for many years. But it seems odd that the option to spell check before sending is in the WLM Options if you had to have Office. I do know that Outlook Express did require the office spell checker but not so sure about WLM.

yes, you most likely need a file called

configNames.ini

and need to be placed into the jaws enu folder.

if you want I can send you the file, or, I could try to connect with you.

no? what I'm saying is?

if you don't have office, then? spellcheck will not be available in windows live mail, nor any other email client. you would need to install a standalone spellchecking program,

if you do in fact have office, then? you should have spellcheck in windows live mail, or any other other email client.

Hi. I ultimately called JAWS support. They installed a file whose name I forget in my JAWS settings folder. At first it didn’t fix the problem but now it works properly. Go figure.

I recommend calling support and having them remote into your machine.

why would you want to use windows live mail with windows 10 when there's already a built in e-mail client in windows10.  also, there's no support for those who use windows live mail. the Microsoft accessibility desk won't help you.

Just a matter of opinion and I don’t want to start any kind of argument. I have tried the Mail app and it does not work for me. Great thing is, we can use the programs we like best.

The lack of support is not a drawback since the program is so straight forward that after a short learning curve none of it’s users need support.

Re: JAWS Is Crashing My Excel

Evan Reese

Okay, I admit it, I’ve been a bit slow about installing the latest version of JAWS. Guess I’ll have to slap the CD in and install it and then see what happens with my Excel.
Didn’t think it would make a difference though, firstly because Excel is such a basic product that I would have thought JAWS would have settled issues with that long ago, and secondly because my version of Window Eyes wasn’t even the latest version that was released before it was discontinued.
Oh well, I’ll find out soon enough if installing the latest version of JAWS will fix it.
Thanks for the feedback.

When I first moved to JAWS 2018 from Window Eyes, I was having issues with Excel 2016 crashing when I had large files with pivot tables and/or  filters turned on.  AS I recall, JAWS would go silent and then I may or may not be able to open the continue working with the file without closing it.  I have not noticed this issue since upgrading to JAWS 2019 and do thing there was something about stability improvements for Excel or office overall in a later update to JAWS.

Subject: [jaws-users] JAWS Is Crashing My Excel

Hello,

I’m using JAWS 2018, and the version of Microsoft Excel that I got with Office 2013.

I’m using Excel to time chess games with a macro that someone created with clocks that change each time a move is entered.

When running JAWS, every time I try to save the file I’m using, Excel crashes. I get several seconds of silence and then I’m asked if I want to load a recovery file. I’ve tried it four times so far.

I’m sure the issue must be with JAWS and not with Excel. I have never experienced this with Window Eyes. I saved the same file using Window Eyes that was crashing when running JAWS and it worked fine. I’ve timed  90 games with Excel and Window Eyes with no problems.

I need to start using JAWS more and more as Window Eyes becomes less usable with an increasing number of programs, so I need to figure out what’s going on with my JAWS and Excel spreadsheet.

Anybody heard of this before and has an idea?

Thanks for any advice.

Evan

Re: Audacity, Latest Version Now Works With JAWS

Glenn / Lenny

Hi,
I decided to give this a try, since I am having trouble with recording in GoldWave.
But with this program, when I try to record, it gives me an error, something about no device.
I looked in preferences and although I could tweak a few things there, nothing in the recording except one about software input, and I tried checking that, but it didn't help.
I'm trying to record audio from a web page.

The latest version of Audacity, an open source multi-track audio editor, now works well with the Narrator screen reader. As with previous versions, Audacity also works well with Jaws and NVDA.
Here's a link to Audacity's web site:
https://www.audacityteam.org/
A direct link to the installer of Audacity 2.3.2 is:
https://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html?dwl=audacity-win-2.3.2.exe

For previous versions of Audacity, I've written guides to Audacity which were written specifically for Jaws users. However my guide for Audacity 2.3.2 is written for users of all of the three screen readers, Jaws, NVDA, and Narrator, and is available here:
http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Audacity-2.3.2-Guide.html

The introduction of the guide gives details of how to subscribe to the Audacity4Blind mailing list.
