Re: Jaws17 Vs. Jaws2019 on Windows 7 Home

Hi James,
You may get mixed opinions on this, since Jaws seems to perform differently
from system to system,
so the best thing to do, is compare the two for yourself on your system.

Hi all,

I’m looking for advice. Using windows 7 Home, which version of Jaws works
best.

I’m using Chrome, Windows Live Mail, VLC, Malwarebytes, Adobe, Win amp etc.
Also, I like to be able to maneuver through menus in Windows.

Any advice will be appreciated very much.

Have a nice day,

I use outlook to retrieve my e-mail from g-mail but I rarely go into g-mail
itself because it is difficult to navigate for the blind.; at least I have
found it difficult to use.

Hi Glen & Others,

Yes, control M would be the way to check mail. But he mentioned about it
being in Table View. How does he navigate around the Table View? How does
one get into table View?. I don't use G mail anymore. I only have outlook
but my friend uses both Gmail and Outlook and Jaws 17 I believe.
The IT person at our local Center for the Blind has him go into outlook
and then gmail for some reason to access his mail. I'm not sure why.
Does anyone know about table view with Gmail? If so, What can my friend do
to resolve this issue?. How can he navigate and manipulate the table view
in G Mail so he can read his e-mail properly and not miss any messages
coming in?.
Thanks in advance. Both He and I appreciate any help anyone can provide.
Thank you. Have a fantastic day/ week. Take care.

Karen

Sounds like windows 10 and although I don't use that, I think that windows M
creates a new desktop, or removes the desktop or something like that.
But shouldn't your friend be using control + M for checking mail?

Hello Everyone,

I have been a Member for a short time. A friend of mine who is also blind
is having a problem with his E-mail. I'm pretty resourceful but could not
find any solutions for him, for folks using screen Readers. And, I'm not
Geeky.( that's why I don't post to this list ).
Anyway, Below is his issue. Perhaps someone here can write and give
some directions. Even better list actual steps he can do to resolve the
issue. If not, some resources that may help him. He said he already spoke
to an IT person at our local Center for the Blind as well as the Microsoft
Accessibility Help Desk and they redirected him to a web site. This
surprised me. Though, it is frustrating at times working with the folks at
the Microsoft accessibility Help Desk ( the calls are very long ). They
never declined helping a blind customer.
So, both my friend and I will be grateful if you can help him. Look
below at his issue. Thank you in advance. Have a great day.

A couple of weeks ago, on a Monday, is when the issue started:
I got onto the computer and opened outlook for my g-mail. I then attempted
to go to documents so I could start working there too. I hit the "M" key and
"windows" key at the same time, but somehow I missed something. The computer
began saying "table view, table, table, table..."ad nauseum. I hit escape
and it stopped but somehow I ended up in a mode of something I have no clue
about. This meant that I could only use my left and right arrows to go
through my mail and as I found out then, and again this morning...it misses
some of the mail I needed.
A week ago, Thursday the 2nd, I got kicked off line and out of
g-mail/outlook. At that point I couldn't get back into g-mail/outlook so I
thought I would just turn it off and/or restart...nothing doing. I couldn't
turn off the computer no matter what I did...it wouldn't shut down or even
restart for me. My wife finally came in and shut it down for me, using the
mouse.
When it fired back up...everything worked fine with no issues. No more
password boxes that popped up for no reason, which I got rid of by hitting
escape and my mail was back to 'normal' and I was able to scroll through
with no issues and haven't hit a snag until yesterday morning when it
started all over again.

Re: Turning off automatic frame update

Hi Mike;

Tried this but perhaps I’m asking the wrong question. What I’m trying to resolve is when using Chrome I go to a website arrow down through the lists, click on a link and JAWS jumps back to the top of the site rather than staying focused on the info that comes up after clicking on the link. If I use I.E. the JAWS focus stays on the info that comes up after clicking on the link. Is there something I can set to resolve this issue. It’s a pain to have to jump through all the lists and links each time.

With Chrome running open the Chrome settings Center and navigate to,Web / HTML / PDFs closed, right arrow to open, down arrow to, Heading and Frames closed, right arrow to open, and in here are a couple of Fram settings you can change to see if it'll help.  If you make any changes tab to, Okay, press enter to save and close.

Same. This was not issue with previous jaws. It happens all the time. Can not understand why this is not fix. NVDA does not have this problem. A app that is public does better with this than one that we are paying.

the info on the screen. When I use the arrow keys it just says "blank,
blank, ...". I even increased my PC memory to 8 GB in the hope it would
solve the problem but it did not. When I unload jaws and load it again, the
problem is solved but it is frustrating to have to do this every time, so I
hope someone has a solution.

Jaws17 Vs. Jaws2019 on Windows 7 Home

James Bentley

Hi all,

I’m looking for advice.  Using windows 7 Home, which version of Jaws works best.

I’m using Chrome, Windows Live Mail, VLC, Malwarebytes, Adobe, Win amp etc.  Also, I like to be able to maneuver through menus in Windows.

Any advice will be appreciated very much.

Have a nice day,

Re: Virus Software

Glenn / Lenny

That is sufficient.
If you want to be more protected, you might consider some malware software.
Malware Bytes is good, but slightly challenging with Jaws, but doable.
You can also use Microsoft's malware tool:
tap the windows key and type in
mrt
and press enter on malicious software removal tool.

As was the case the other day, I don’t have the enhancements option in the

I have general, levels, advanced, and spatial sound.

I thought enhancements might be under advanced, but it is not.

Am I missing something?

Hi Tom,

Yes there is. Try the following:

1. From the desktop press, Windows key + R, to open the Run dialogue and
type in, control panel, and press enter.

2. Press the letter, S, to get to, Sound link, and press enter.

3. You should be on the, Playback page, so press the spacebar on the
Realtech option to make sure it's selected, now tab to, properties, and
press enter.

4. Now, Control + Tab, to the, Enhancements page. If the environment
choices are there you should be in a list of 6 checkboxes. The 1st one
being Environment which should be checked and if it isn't then the
environment choices aren't activated or don't exist. If it's there, but not
checked, check this box and tab 1 time. You should be in a list of different
sound effects. Arrow up / down and as you go from one to another you should
hear the differences. I don't like any reverberation so I use the living
room sound effect. After you make your choice tab to, Okay, press the
spacebar and you will be back on the, properties button, so tab to, Okay,
and press enter to save and close. If you still have my number you can
call.

Is there a way to change the environment sounds?

I’d almost like to try to do that before uninstalling and re-installing
everything, since the problem will likely recur with future updates.

If not, I’ll certainly do as you suggest.

Hi Tom,

When you installed the factory driver it could have put Environment sounds
like living room, ballpark or padded cell! LOL Anyways, in some these
environment sounds there's a lot of reverberation. If the environment
setting didn't change you'll probably need to reinstall the driver Mr. Mote
provided to you.

I just got some sighted assistance, and some sort of an intel driver was

I’m not sure what to do here, short of uninstalling the new driver again,

Hello, everyone.

You may recall that last week, I had a Jaws distorted speech problem with my
Dell Windows 10 computer.

The problem was fixed by uninstalling the Windows generic sound card driver
and replacing it with a realtech driver thanks to an executable file from
Mike Mote.

Unfortunately, my problem has returned, but in a different form.

My jaws speech is slightly distorted in the laptop speakers, and when I use
headphones, I get stereo sound with a slight reverberation, rather than Jaws
being in the center of the headphones.

Does anyone have any suggestions for solving this latest issue?

I’m using the latest build of Jaws 2019.

Thanks as always.

Re: Jaws Distorted Speech Problem Has Returned

I have had this problem, I don't think it is the same as Tom's.
My Jaws speech will slow down and sound like a Silon (battle star galactica), and then I lose all audio, again, with a realtech driver.
I think it might be a hardware issue.
Windows 7 64 bit on an Intel NUC, 8GB of RAM.
This has happened with many versions of Jaws, 15 through 2019.

Hi Tom i am not sure if your sound issue is same as mine.

I have had an issue off and on for about 2 years now on only 2 of my cheaper Laptops.

My issue is out of the blue jaws will be talking fine then all of a sudden jaws witll get really reverby and little un responsive.

And i need to do a restart of my computer and the sound is all back to normal.

But my issue can happen 3 times in half hour.

Or it may not stuff up for days.

2 years ago i did a total reinstalled windows 10 on 1 machine and it fixed it for ages.

Then few months back it started up again.

Each time this happens i have found under my reliability history in win 10 tells me their was a error saying windows host process has stopped working or not responding and had to close.

I have had stacks of thoes errors come up.

Most reports have been reported to Microsoft but no fixes.

And i have reinstalled the realteck audio drivers lots of times by uninstalling drivers under devices.

So i am frustrated as well.

I have 3 dearer laptops with Realteck sound cards and never had a problem with them.

I feel its something to do with the drivers.

Cheers Michael.

Hi,
I just downloaded a book from archive.org, and it came in two formats, DAISY and abbyy.GZ.
I used 7Zip on both of them.
I could put the DAISY in a special player that we can use, but I would prefer to read it on the computer.
The GZ file extracted to an XML file, and it seems to lock up whatever I open it with.
Didn't Jaws used to come with some software for DAISY books?
Thanks for any assistance.
