I may have a hard drive with failing health. In particular, it's possible that my FAT or MBR is/are corrupted. Is there a JAWS-friendly program out there that will run diagnostics on a hard drive, doing read/write operations and other tasks to arrive at an assessment of the overall health?

New Notification Message

JERRY MARTIN

Morning all.

Using JAWS 2018 and Windows 10 on a Dell laptop, I have a question regarding a message I received.

After opening a program that I use on a regular basis, Jaws said “New Notification”. However, Jaws does not read any of the text within this message, either with or without the JAWS Cursor. I tried closing the message via Alt F4, but it is still there. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what this is, and what can be done about it. Thanks.

The program in question is called DBT. It is a braille translater that works very well with JAWS. Also, can you tell me how to get to the notification center for Windows 10? Thanks much.

Go to Settings.

Under Privacy, choose Background apps.

Turn them off.

Restart.

Distorted Jaws Speech After Dell Update

Tom Behler

Hello, everyone.

I just did a Dell update to my Windows 10 laptop, and now my Jaws speech sounds rather tinny and is very distorted.

Lowering the system volume does not lessen the distortion.

Is there anything I can do to solve this issue?

I’m using the latest build of Jaws 2019 here.

JAWS locking up on update

Vicki W

I have just now tried to update JAWS 2019 with the automatic update using Windows 10. Says it's downloading and then locks up my computer on the install screen, which reads empty. I can't do anything with the computer, leave the window, close it or even restart or shut down my computer without going to power and selecting restart anyway after getting a message that the update is blocking my restart.

The update went very well on my Windows 7 computer, so what could be causing this and how can I update JAWS without locking the computer?
Thanks.
