Using Jaws 2019 and Office 365 Word, I selected some text, hit control-u and heard “on” and when I navigated to one of those words and hit insert+f it said the font “single underline.”

I wonder if it is a verbosity setting?

To confirm whether your text is underlined, either press windows key-alt-i, which will move the cursor to the next inconsistency, or press insert-alt-s, which will bring up a list of schemes to choose from.  Any with attributes should do, depending on what else you might want to know.
