Yes, you would need to get a USB drive, and I'm pretty sure you can get one from eBay or Amazon.--Matt.

I'm sure you can still get the drives somewhere, and yes, they would likely
be external especially nowadays. I actually have an external 3.5 drive; just
not sure it works presently.

Matthew, you are dating yourself my friend. LOL.
3.5 floppies. I don't 'think you can get a drive for those things anymore,
can you?
I have a few floppies that I'd like to copy onto my hard drive, but I don't
know if external 3.5's exist.
Not to start an off topic here, but do you remember the
died-before-they-got-off-the-table 2.88 floppies?
Just like the Digital Cassettes they never stood a chance.

Hi, Jeff. DBAN can be obtained for free from (I think). Been
a while since I downloaded a copy. Otherwise, Google it, and you should
find it. You will need some sighted assistance at boot-up; you need to
burn a CD and copy files to it, or use a floppy 3.5-inch. I did this with
two computers I needed to dispose of, and even the operating system went
away. Good stuff. Cleans according to military/DOD specs.--Matthew Chao

What is DBAN and where can one get it? I have a couple of old laptops

data has been removed from them. Both laptops run Vista.

Can I accomplish this data cleansing without sighted assistance using

There is no better symbol for the purpose we serve than the emblem
every Marine earns: the Eagle, Globe and Anchor. The eagle represents
the proud nation we defend. It stands at the ready with our coastlines
in sight and the entire world within reach of its outstretched wings.
The globe represents our worldwide presence. The anchor points both to
the Marine Corps' naval heritage and its ability to access any
coastline in the world. Together, the eagle, globe and anchor symbolize
our commitment to defend our nationin the air, on land and at sea.
