I've been looking at the IC-706MkIIG as a mobile/portable/backup rig,

Be aware that ICOM has not yet rolled out it's latest version of the 706MKIIG: it has been announced in France. We'll probably see it this summer or fall here in the states.

I believe that Dave was referring to the IC-7000 itself. The 7000 will
