help using IC-7000 on 60m

AB2E Darrell

Hello all,
New to the group, and just got my new (to me) IC-7000 today.
Setting it up, got it running fine (years ago I had an IC-706MKIIG and notice the many similarities).

Here's my question.
I want to use the 7000 sometimes on 60m, mostly FT8, so I entered and stored 5.357 (the WSJT-X FT8 frequency) with the HM-151 mic.
OK, so far so good, changing bands it now has added 5.357 as I scroll between 80 and 40.
I key the rig either with my CW paddle, or with the handmic. No TX red LED on the rig, but the red LED on the mic
does light when I press the TX button.
I see on p40 of the manual about operating 60m, it says to set the rig to only the 5 frequencies listed.
I initially tried the first one, 5.33050 but with the same result, no TX on the rig.

What else do I need to do to get it to xmit on 60m?

Hi Darrell,

I use my IC7K on both JTDX and WSJTX (pics from JTDX).  Rig control is done with FLRig (from Windows, Linux, or macOS).

You simply need to add the 60M frequencies (see my list below).

Make sure you are on USB - I trigger the rig from the rear aux port, and I have audio going in there as well.  Also, the mic is live (so you may wish to be either very quiet or unplug it during FTDX operation.  You also need to make sure that you have selected the correct audio sources in your FTDX software.  I suspect you already have this correct - given that you are now simply trying to add 60M (but I am sharing for others that may have the same rig we use).

Sorry… Please replace FTDX with FT8… ugh… too much jelly in my head.

Mike live or dead depends on which  jack you are using.
I used the 6 pin jack with a Signalink USB.
One of the jacks for the mike leaves it hot and the other is muted.
Right now I forget which one that would be.
The Data write up on page 116 of the manual says that when the PTT (pin 3 of the 6 pin DIN plug for data) is grounded the radio transmits and pin 6 of the mike is disconnected. I do not know if that is both the front panel jack or just the one on the rear of the radio.
I worked a lot of FT-8 with my IC-7000s before I sold them and never had to disconnect the mike set up this way.
