CW memories

Can someone help me program the CW keyer memories, M1-4?  I can't make head or tail of the manual.  I can't find anything in the files or FAQ.

Thanks!

I can't make head or tail of the manual.
Are you able to get to the S1 menu?
Hold down [MENU/GRP] for 1 second once or twice to select the menu group S.
• Push [MENU/GRP] momentarily one or more times to select the menu S-1.

I've used the keyer memories in my 7000 a lot recently working a few QSO parties and special events. Start with the radio in CW mode.  Otherwise I don't think the keyer options appear in the menus.  I recall you have to switch between letter, number and punctuation modes to get all the characters you might want (kind of a PITA).

Good news, the memories do work OK.  Bad news is you have to back out of "keyer mode" to change any radio functions requiring the menu keys, so the utility of them is diminished having to keep surfing back and forth through the layers.    A coin cell operated memory keyer (K1EL, et al) would be a lot more convenient to use.
