Removing head unit regularly
James G5JIM
Hi all,
Apologies if you’ve already seen this post on Facebook.
I’ve just mounted my IC7000 using a DM5AL separation kit in my car and was planning on removing the head unit between use, just wondering if this is ok or might cause issues? I’ve noticed that the retaining clip that pulls back on the head unit has got scratched a hit it the post on the DM5AL mount and wondering if this might cause issues longer term, also wondering about wear on the spring pins pins in the head unit, just wondering if these parts or any others are likely to break and if so if they are replaceable with parts available! (P.s Ive read that the base unit needs unplugging from power when the head unit is attached/detatched so I’ll fit a switch in the power cable)
Thanks

Dave .
Why can't they change the orientation of the rj-45 connector on the back of the adapter mounting board to plug into the back board from the bottom like the microphone does into the bottom of the head?

Well, to be fair, this unit has been out of production for over 10 years.

Yes...I would agree...but in over 10 yrs...on a radio thatbis loved by so many...why wouldn't you entertain that option...the remote head cable was always awkward and I could never understand the reason for the why they set it up the way they did...it is so
awkward in a mobile setup. That cable is always in the way...yaesu..kenwood. they hide theirs in the back...

Dave,
why awkward then? I may miss the reasoning. I'm using the 7k mobile at times and never found the cable in the way. |
