IC-7000 Remote
Richard Parnell
I have not used my IC-7000 for some time. I was thinking of trying to use it as a remote HF rig at some family land a few miles from home. Does anyone know the best way to set up a 7000 to operate remotely?

Richard, It would certainly be possible to configure an IC-7000 for remote control. I have remoted an IC-7200 successfully, but it has an USB port. Icom RS-BA1 software, or HamRadio Deluxe are options for software. for the 7000, you will need a CIV interface cable, lots of USB versions out there, a sound card interface like a Signalink or others mentioned in the forum. You will also need a Windows Computer, and a way to control power remotely. An internet connected smart switch like is used to control a light will work. The smart switch is to allow you a way to power the system down remotely in the event of a TX lockup. IC-7100, 7200 or 7300 have a built in USB interface for sound and CIV control. Higher end Icoms like th IC-7610 have an ethernet port built in for remote operation, and a lot of other bells and whistles. Still have to buy the remote software though. I believe that Kenwood supplies the software for their rigs at no charge, but the MSRP of a comparable rig compensates for that. My 2¢ worth is to look at a newer rig, unless you already have the accessory hardware on hand. 73 Joe KR0UT

Thanks Joe. I do have a Signalink USB that I used wir the 7000 when it was my main radio. Perhaps you are right through, there may be better radios suited for my need rather than trying to shoehorn this 7000 into doing what I want. Any ideas on what a 7000 is going for these days? All accessories included. Thanks. On Mon, Aug 29, 2022 at 3:45 PM Joe Krout <Jkrout@...> wrote:

Richard,
a 7000 generally will go between $ 650...750; the signalink can help you if you use wfview (free, open source)
