So the whole AM modulation issue is unresolved?
Thanks for the insight, Steve. That makes sense. I have never seen this spike since I don't run much compression as most of what I did was digital where linearity is important. As with many issues wit

I still fail to understand what the issue with AM is. For a SSB radio with AM as really an after thought and with it providing all of the power that the finals can safely handle what are you looking f

So the whole AM modulation issue is unresolved?
So this unresolved problem is undefined and unnecessary as an operational issue? It takes a little time for the ALC to cut back the carrier power to the proper level, but then it is probably unmodulat

Well wit a discontinued radio it won't be resolved by Icom, but what is the issue?

ALC and audio Tx problem
I had this problem with one of my IC-7000s. My symptoms were full ALC on SSB and 100% + output on all other modes. Turning the power down has no effect. The ALC circuit gets one input from the SSB log

RF getting into the radio could cause this. The "digital" audio from the sound card doesn't seem to bother the radio much, but the RS-232 / USB can cause problems. A few turns through a ferrite core a

Driver transistor icture
Since someone wanted a picture of the driver and I remembered that I take pictures of almost all the repairs I make I have a blow up of the driver transistor for the IC7000 and thought I would post it

Paul, Having been a ham since 1963 and never a CB'er of course I resent your aspersions as well as your rudeness. 73 has a meaning that escapes you, evidently. I have owned 3 IC-7000s and bought each

Short answer Paul, Don't use 73 when you don;t mean it and don't expect anyone to help when you go out of your way to be rude. I am sorry I tried to help you, but it won't happen again. AR

If you look at the manual PCB layouts for the versions you are interested in you can tell more than the pictures will tell you. The schematic is fairly clear and the pictures of both sides would be in

I have looked at the boards and without a very good magnifying glass you might have a problem. Compare the schematics and then look to see what is different. What is on the schematic is more important

HF to the outside, VHF to the inside. Probably better to color code the antenna leads maybe with inside VHF - outside HF

Seen these Auto ATU's
By the way with an 8:1 SWr using RG8X at 7 mhz the losses would be 2.24dB or about 40%%. 100 watts in 53 watts at the antenna. About 34% at 4 mhz, and 50% at 14 mhz, 60% at 28 mhz. By the way I could

You are correct, but if you need the tuner anyway might as well put it where it will do the most good, especially if it is small and low power. In the camper I use for my emergency go box there is not

Here is my thought about this ATU and it's size. I have been using either an MFJ 939 or LDG - 100 when portable and installing it at the base of the 30' telescoping fidhing pole with a set of radials
