I love the Internet and the things it can do for us.  But I think generally it has turned us from being a nation of seekers into a nation of askers.  I don't know how many times on other venues, I've see someone ask a really simple question of a group, when taking just 30 seconds of their own time on Google would return all the answers they were looking for.  Sorry for the rag, but so many people now want to take from others before they even try doing for themselves first (and I'm not alluding to this group, which is rather specialized). It has been a major shift in attitude that extends well beyond the current subject.  What's going to happen when that big solar CME happens and knocks all this stuff out, permanently?  It has happened before, in 1859, when about the only electrical infrastructure in existence was the telegraph.

there uis no need to replace the battery --- it's extremely easy to replace. It's no SMD stuff. It's really easy.

Re: [IC-7000] Available

I appreciate the comments on price. I'm still looking at other sales to stay in the ball park for price. Just toured Ebay (no IC-7000s this morning and QRZ where a couple were mentioned.) If you're looking for an IC-7000, I suggest you do the same. Find the rig you want at the price you want and do your thing. By all means, if you want "new box" smell/thrill, go that route. Enjoy your IC-7300s. Hope they meet all your expectations. Jim

Internal battery

Rick

The time-of-day clock on my IC-7000 resets whenever I cycle the power. I believe this is because the internal battery has failed. I know it is a small surface mount device, which is tricky to replace.

Does anyone know if I really need to replace the battery? I don't care if the clock works or not, but could the dead battery cause any other problem in my rig?

Thanks, Rick K0XB

Maybe the 7300 has an LED backlit screen and it is not keeping all the VHF/UHF circuits alive.

The IC-7300 draws only 0.9 A on receive. That is a biggie for the guys that operate portable
from a park bench or in the outdoors. I don’t know why the IC-7000 with such a small display
can draw almost twice as much current as the IC-7300 with a much larger more vibrant display.
It’s obviously the circuitry that is drawing all this power.
However, there will always remain a demand for the IC-7000, for use in a mobile - I wouldn’t
want any other currently available rig in my mobile.
But, it has lost a lot of demand due to the IC-7300, from the ops wanting a portable or small
base radio.

Price seems high.  I and many others have purchased brand new 7000's including the remote mounting items for less than $1200.
